Terry grew up in Caledonia MN and went to college at St. Johns University. He went to dental school at the University of Minnesota and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1994. Wanting to live close to his hometown he started Cowgill Dental in Onalaska. He loves dentistry so much he married another dentist, Michelle Schoene. They are now blessed with three children, Grace, Jonah, and Sophia.
Melissa is from the Twin Cities area and went to the University of Minnesota Duluth for her bachelors degree. In 1996 she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Minnesota. She joined our practice in 1997 and now lives with her husband Mark and their four children, Aaron, Brandon, Cal, and Danielle.
Michelle (Cowgill) is from Racine WI and went to Marquette University before attending dental school at the University of Minnesota. She received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1995. Besides being a full-time Mom she also enjoys treating her patients a few days per week.
Dr. Aksel Gundersen graduated from Marquette University School of Dentistry in 2017 after receiving his undergraduate degree in biology from UW Madison. Dr. Gundersen grew up in La Crosse and is a 2007 graduate of Logan High School.
As an avid outdoor enthusiast, Aksel was a counselor at a canoe camp in northern Wisconsin during his college summers. To this day, Dr. Aksel continues to enjoy canoeing, camping, and nature with his wife, Maggie. He is a member of the La Crosse District Dental Society, Wisconsin Dental Association, and American Dental Association.
Dr. Alexander was born and raised in Ukraine. She earned a degree in dental hygiene and later her DDS from New York University. Dr. Alexander then completed a general practice residency at Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY where she covered all aspects of general dentistry.
Dr. Alexander is a proud member of the Academy of General Dentistry and in 2020, received the Fellowship Award from the AGD. The Fellowship Aware is presented to dentists who strive to provide the highest quality of dental care to their patients by remaining current in the field of oral care as well as incorporating the latest research techniques into their practices.

This is my first experience with Cowgill Dental. The Onalaska office is lovely. Stacie, Dr. Schmit, and staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and thorough. The cleaning was comfortable and my teeth feel great.

It is a 60-mile drive for me but well worth, so happy with Cowgill, one-day crown was wonderful and the dental cleaning is tops

Cowgill Dental has been my dentist for more than 20 years. I won't go anywhere else. I have never had a bad experience. They are extremely professional. From the minute you walk in the door the staff makes you feel at ease and welcome. I would and have recommended them to many others.

I am hypersensitive when it comes to my teeth. Cowgill is always kind and considerate of my problem areas. They document, listen and repeat to keep me from having to worry they are going to hit those trouble spots. Thanks Cowgill!

I was having a problem and as a new patient, I called and was given an immediate appointment! The staff could not have been nicer! They were very thorough in diagnosing the problem and explaining all to me. I so appreciate the friendliness everyone showed me! I feel confident about the procedures to be done to alleviate the problem. So happy I chose Cowgill Dental!!

Made an appointment over the phone specifying I needed a tooth fixed due to a work related injury and that workers compensation would pay for it. Was told over the phone this would be fine. I arrived and was told I was expected to pay the full amount myself, and that they refused to bill it out to my workers compensation. I left. Wasted my time and theirs.
