Dr. Michael Covaney graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1993. He received his Dental Degree (Cum Laude Honors, 1997) and his Prosthodontic Training (2000) from Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry in Richmond. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Association, the Peninsula Dental Society and the Academy of General Dentistry. He is also a member of the Virginia Section of the American College of Prosthodontists.
A prosthodontist is a dentist who has completed dental school plus at least three additional years of advanced training and education in an CODA-accredited prosthodontic graduate program. They specialize in treating and handling dental and facial problems that involve restoring missing tooth and jaw structures. A prosthodontist is highly trained in cosmetics, dental implants, crowns, bridges, dentures, temporomandibular disorders (TMJ/TMD), and more.
When Dr. Mike is not in the office he can be found supporting his son Jason, who both swims and plays baseball for the Hampden-Sydney Tigers and his daughter Jocelyn, who competes in track for Walsingham Academy. Dr. Mike enjoys traveling, exercising and he is an avid Hot Wheels collector.
Dr. Sharon Cole Covaney originally from Newport News, VA, graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. in Business Management from Virginia Tech in 1993. She earned her Dental Degree in 1997, Cum Laude Honors, along with Advanced Education in General Dentistry Training in 1998 from the Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry in Richmond. She is a member of the American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Association, Peninsula Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry and Pierre Fauchard Academy. She served as a component representative to the New Dentist Committee, has served as both Secretary and President of the Peninsula Dental Society and participates in local school activities relating to dentistry, including National Give Kids a Smile Day.

LOVE love love this office. Everyone is awesome! Sr Sharon and Dr Mike really care about their patients and that is evident. I was nervous finding a new dentist after my last one retired but after my first visit i new i made a great choice!

100% would recommend these doctors to anyone. I lost a couple of front teeth due to rugby a few years ago and Dr.Mike has been incredibly helpful with walking me through my options and helping me figure out what is best and what would last the longest for my case. I was able to get implants a few months ago and he made implant crowns that look phenomenal and blend beautifully.

Dr. Mike and his staff have finally convinced me that going to the dentist doesn't have to cause me worry. They are so skilled at putting one at ease! I feel as though I have a relationship with my dentist, for the first time! He is a very clear communicator and answers all questions with interest, understanding, and patience. The ENTIRE staff has been welcoming and positive! I'm proud that I can count on this practice for the rest of my life!

I had to switch dentists because my insurance changed and this was one of the very few that was in network for my insurance. I have gone to the dentist my entire life and brush/floss regularly, and never had dental issues. I went to this office and was told I needed a deep clean as well as have three old fillings removed and replaced. I was told that day that all of this would cost $59.61 out of pocket after insurance. I was skeptical that I actually needed all of this done since it had never been mentioned by my previous dentist. I just got the recommended work done today and had to pay $222.80 out of pocket before leaving the office today. I told them I had been told less than $60 initially and the response was I'm not sure why someone would have told you that. I feel like I was talked into getting unnecessary work done and told a lower cost purposely so I would agree to it. Needless to say I will not be going back to this office. I would rather pay for my previous out of network dentist who I feel I can trust.

I am the caregiver of a lady who had big problems with her dentures fitting properly. We were referred to Dr. Mike after several other dentists could not figure out what to do. Evidently she had implants years ago and this particular implant procedure is not used any more. Dr. Mike went way above and beyond locating parts in order to make the adjustments necessary. He and the staff were so patient with us and extremely helpful. He was so awesome, we brought him another patient to have new dentures made. So professional!
