Appearance is not the only benefit of wearing Invisalign for straighter teeth, since straighter teeth can also benefit one's oral health. In fact crooked teeth can trap food between them and lead to infection or bite issues. At Richard Cottrell, DDS & Associates, we offer Invisalign as a treatment for patients interested in discreetly straightening their teeth.

Invisalign is a series of clear aligner trays that cover the teeth, similar to a retainer or mouth guard, but are much more discreet. At least every two weeks or so, the patient will switch to the next set in the series of Invisalign trays. With the custom aligners for each patient, Invisalign will gradually push the teeth into the right position without causing significant amounts of pain.

After creating the trays, we will then meet with the patient to ensure that they fit and that the patient understands all of the steps in the straightening process. It is important that the patient understand a few key factors about wearing Invisalign on a regular basis.

While the patient can remove Invisalign trays when necessary, the patient will want to keep them in as much as possible. The longer the patient does not wear the trays for, the longer the entire process will take. Patients need to remove the aligner trays when eating and to brush the teeth.

Patients can also remove the aligner trays to play in a sports game, give a presentation, go on a date, or while taking a photo. It is important to at least rinse the mouth after eating to keep food from getting caught in the teeth.

The patient will be able to continue through each aligner tray and follow a schedule with no surprises. By following the schedule, the patient's teeth will continue to move into the proper position without pain.

While wearing Invisalign, patients will not have to brush and floss between brackets with difficulty. In fact, the patient will be able to brush and floss as normal by just removing the aligner trays. However, it is crucial that the patient brush after each meal to keep food from sticking between the teeth.

Food that is stuck in the teeth can also damage the aligners. It is important that patients do not wear the aligners while drinking soda or other beverages while wearing Invisalign aligners. We recommend that patients only keep the aligners in when drinking water.

We customize the Invisalign aligners to fit the patient's teeth and then use programming technology to digitally map out the projected rate of movement for the patient. We will then build the rest of the clear aligners in the series. Each new set of aligners will be a bit closer to the correct position for straight teeth.

With a customized straightening treatment, patients do not need to worry about the aligners falling out or being loose. Since there is no one-size-fits-all treatment, we make sure that the trays are the right fit for each patient.

Invisalign aligner trays are nearly invisible to the point that few people will notice them unless the individual mentions wearing them. Patients will not have to feel embarrassed by wearing traditional metal braces or a mess of wires in their mouth on a regular basis. Invisalign allows for the patient to receive the straight smile they desire without the maintenance of going through braces treatment.

There are a lot of teeth straightening methods that someone looking to improve their smile can consider. Traditional braces are well known, but over the years, dentistry has modernized, which has allowed for an expansion on the options.Considering teeth straightening to improve your smile? When I was 19 and pregnant (married btw!!) I went in for a cleaning and immediately they were extremely rude. The nurses gave me a very hard time for not being able to get an x-ray (pregnant!). Then when they left the room for me to wait I heard them talking about me in the other room. Once the doctor came in to clean, he decided to make conversion about my religion, then proceeded to make fun of it and use jokes that stereotype it. I felt like garbage by the time I left. I cried in the car to my husband. This is the least professional place I have ever been to. Do anything you can to avoid it. My mother also had a very bad experience there with money gouging.

The worst dentist I've ever been to and for sure not going back there again. I promise you, make your money worth by going somewhere else. The dentist and the nurses are unprofessional, not friendly, and they talk like you're so dumb and they are the smartest people in the whole Northern Neck. I went in there to get a permanent filling which I know it's the best financial choice for me but he forced me to get a crown instead, which cost 3000 dollar more than a permanent filling, which I resist. They took me in, worked on my teeth for ten minutes and charged me 200 dollar more than what they originally said, because according to the nurse, "it was deep, deep, deep, deep. Deep enough to fill a cotton candy in there." Like how many times can you say deep. The problem for me was that they could easily said to me while they were working on my teeth for 10 minutes, that they will charge me more than expected before proceeding to finish up working on my teeth, but instead they waited until it's done then slapped me with an extra 200 dollar charge. Imagine how many people they have done that to. Wait until they finish working on their teeth than proceed to charge extra 500 because they did an extra 10 seconds worth of work. Never going back there again.

Rip off. I needed 2 crowns, they tried to sell me $12,000 worth of dentist work and never mentioned the 2 crowns I needed. Then charged me $250 for a useless appointment where they did absolutely ZERO to help me with my dental problems. Avoid this place like the plague.

My wife broke a crown on Vacation in Kinsale VA, we were 7 hours from our dentist. She contacted this office and they called her back right away. Gave her an appointment first thing the next morning at 7am. The office staff was professional and took all Covid-19 precautions. The woman dentist she seen was caring and very detailed. Unfortunately, she was unable to put the crown back, but told my wife what to do if any discomfort was felt and said to call or come back if anything got worse before we left. Nice to find this type of professionalism.

I lived and worked in No Virginia all my life and used the same dentist all these years. when I retired and moved here to the Northern Neck I was really worried about switching. for some reason I thought that a dentist in a rural area was not as good as in the crowded and busy No Virginia. Boy as I wrong. Dr Cottrell and his associate dentists (especially Dr Hernandez in Callao) are the best I have ever had. Never a wait, as good or better technology as my previous dentist, and they always have time to spend with me. In fact in five years my gingivitis has reversed thanks to the best hygenist ever...Rebecca.
