I had a minor issue with a tooth and was able to get an appt right away. Dr Walker was very thorough in evaluating my tooth and made sure I understood the likely cause.. He was patient with all my questions. He also gave me choices and didnt push the most expensive option. His staff were also great in prepping me and in the check- in/out process.

The dentist, the hygienist and the patient all work together to help patients maintain a healthy mouth. They work to prevent the need for treatment. The main cause for tooth loss is decay and gum disease.

First they hygienist will scale and polish your teeth. They will show you the best ways to brush and clean in between your teeth with floss to remove bacterial plaque. Plaque needs to be removed regularly so it doesnt become tartar, cause tooth decay or issues with your gums. You should brush your teeth twice a day and floss once a day. Be sure to slide the floss down on each side of your tooth, going under the gum line. Improvements to your diet and quitting smoking can also help to protect your teeth. Limit sugary foods or drinks. Chewing sugar free gum may also help.

In Dr. Walkers personal experience as a second generation dentist, he has seen technology create more advancements and improvements in the last ten years, than the previous fifty years. You may notice a few things have changed around the office since Dr. Walker took over patient care at Cortez Family Dentistry. New equipment has been added for root canal procedures and a dental surgical microscope was installed in January 2015. The next addition will be a cone beam digital imagery system in 2016. The new equipment will assist Dr. Walker in providing two additional treatments that were not previously offered at Cortez Family Dentistry, root canals and implants. Dr. Walker is very excited to be able to provide this additional care for his patients.

The dental microscope in our office is used in diagnosis, treatment planning, operative, endodontic and surgical dentistry. Every day, I use the microscope in the office and I see things that I was unable to visualize in everyday practice even a few months ago. Seeing close up all of the small intricacies of the dental anatomy, is changing the way I diagnosis and treat every day dental conditions.

My goal has always been to provide the most precise and comfortable care in our clinic at a competitive price. Im excited to add the dental microscope, by Seiler, to my everyday care for all of my patients. I feel that the dental microscope helps me to deliver on this pledge.

I feel one of the goals of every dentist is to provide the best care that will have the longest lasting outcome. I believe the dental microscope fits perfectly in this area. The better the dentist is able to see, the better service they are able to provide.

For example, polishing down a crown margin at 12 times magnification for the perfect fit is not only a joy for me to do but I cant help but believe will last longer than dentistry done without magnification.

Dr. Walker surgically has placed root form implants for crowns, dentures, partials and bridges for 14 years. The office is equipped with instruments and equipment for this service, including a CBCT 3-D Conebeam X-ray machine. Dr. Walker has achieved his Fellowship Awards in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and the American Academy of Implant Prosthodontics.

After graduating from University of Illinois at Chicago, Dr. Walker headed to Denver, Colorado to work as an associate for several dental offices and later became the co-owner of Carbondale Family Dentil with Dr. Brad Nicholson.

Dr. Walkers skills progressed working with such an esteemed mentor and he had a great relationship with the patients and staff. While in Carbondale he met his future wife, Errin and they married in 2009. After ten successful years, Dr. Walker had an opportunity to end the partnership with Dr. Nicholson.

Dr. Walker visited many communities and practices and found that Cortez, Colorado offered a great place to live and a lifetime of adventures. Dr. Walker took over patient care from Dr. Patana, and then later also from Dr. Carlson at Cortez Family Dentistry and has become a permanent resident in the delightful community of Cortez in the four corners area in late 2014.
