Dr. Jorge C. Coro was born in Havana, Cuba. Both his parents were highly regarded orthodontists in that city. His father, Dr. Carlos Coro, was the dean of the University of Havana School of Dentistry and chairman of the Department of Orthodontics.

In 1956Dr. Carlos Coro served as president of the Charles H. Tweed International Foundation for Orthodontic Research (which is based in Tucson, Arizona, and was the most prestigious and influential orthodontic organization in the world at that time). After Dr. Carlos Coros passing, Dr. Jorge Coros mother, Dr. Margarita A. Coro, was able to leave Cuba. After years of study, she obtained her Florida dental license and opened an office at the age of 62.

Dr. Coro came to Miami in 1961 andgrew up there. He graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and obtained his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Florida, College of Dentistry. He completed his specialty training at the University of Tennessee, where he earned a Master of Science in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.

In 1981he joined his mothers practice and in 1987he opened the Coral Gables office where he is currently located. He has been involved in organized dentistry:serving as president and founding member of the West Dade Dental Society (1990-1991), the South Florida Academy of Orthodontists (1993-1994), and the Florida Association of Orthodontists (2006-2007). He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.

Dr. Coro has been utilizing the MEAW technique as taught by Dr. Young H. Kim and Dr. Sadao Sato to treat severe skeletal malocclusions since 1995. He is currently teaching the MEAW course at the University of Florida and Nova Southeastern Universitys orthodontic departments, where the residents treat cases under his supervision.

Dr. Coro and his wifeMarisahave two wonderful daughters, Ivette and Nicole, both graduates of the University of Florida. Ivette is now Dr. Coro's partner in the practice.In addition to his family and orthodontics, Dr. Coros other passion is freediving and spearfishing, which he pursues as frequently as the weather permits.

Dr. Ivette Coro is passionate about working with patients of all ages throughout their smile journey. She enjoys providing the best possible care to her patients:not only making a change in their smiles, but in their lives as well. She feels fortunate to work in a profession where she can meet and interact with so many different people.

Dr. Coro was born and raised in Coral Gables. While growing up, she loved visiting her fathers office and was always interested in orthodontics. After exploring different fields of dentistry, orthodontics was a natural fit.

She graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes Academy High School in 2002 andproceeded to the University of Florida, where she studied food science and human nutrition and obtained a Bachelor of Science. Dr. Coro received her Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Florida's College of Dentistry. After dental school, Dr. Coro went to Nova Southeastern University to earna Master of Dental Science and a certificate in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.

In addition to her formal education, Dr. Coro has attend meetings organized by the American Association of Orthodontists and affiliated organizations, and participates in cutting-edge lectures and hands-on training to stay up to date on the latest technology and information regarding dental materials, technology, and equipment. She also stays current on the MEAW technique and Invisalign. In 2011, she attended a week long MEAW intensive course taught by Dr. Sadao Sato, where she learned to treat complex cases. Dr. Coro also attends continuing education courses on medical emergencies in the dental office and how a patients overall health, not just dental health, plays an important role in treatment.

Dr. Coro remains active in local and national dental organizations.She servesas a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Association of Orthodontists, the Florida Association of Orthodontists, and the American Dental Association. She is also actively pursuing board certification in orthodontics, having successfully attained the status of board-eligible orthodontist to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontists.

What differentiates us from others is our ability and proficiency in treating the most severe malocclusions without the need for orthognathic (jaw surgery) or premolar extractions. Every one of our patients benefit from custom, hand-formed Multiloop Edge Wise Archwires (MEAW). These unique hyper flexible archwires, in conjunction with elastics allow us to align the teeth without the need for premolar extractions and to guide and position the jaws in their ideal relationship without the need for jaw surgery.

At Coro Orthodontics, skeletal open bites, underbites (overdeveloped lower jaw) overbites (underdeveloped lower jaw) and mandibular lateral displacement are routinely treated with excellent sustainable results.

Unlike the commonly used preformed straight wires, the custom made multiloop archwires provide vertical control of the teeth. The traditional, original MEAW has five loops per side. A more recent development by Toyota Central R&D Labs, GUMMETAL, is an alloy with unique properties that makes the force levels similar to those of the MEAWs. Only two loops per side are now needed for these GumMetal Edgewise Archwires (GEAW). They are far more comfortable for the patient and yet maintain the flexibility and provide the same vertical control as the MEAWs.
