Cordes Orthodontics - Orthodontist in Enfield, CT

At the age of nine, Dr. Cordes knocked out his front tooth while sliding down a hill in winter in fact, it happened at his birthday party! It was the first run of the party, and he was laying down on a runner sled and ended up colliding with a person who, to this day, is still his oldest and closest friend. His father packed the tooth into a snowball and brought him straight to the dentists office on a Sunday. His dentist re-implanted the tooth, and it lasted another 15 years before being replaced by a bridge and then an implant. That compassionate care was what first inspired him to consider the field of dentistry as a career.

A little later, in sixth grade, Dr. Cordes actually created a ceramic tooth as an art project by then, he knew he wanted to become an orthodontist in particular. He still has that childhood creation today, and it sits on his orthodontic office windowsill, symbolizing that dreams, determination, and hard work really do pay off in the end.

After attending Boston College, Dr. Cordes immediately enrolled in The University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. After the completion of his first year, he took one year off while remaining at the dental school to complete research. The Dean tried to encourage him to do a joint DMD/PhD program, but his true interest was treating patients. Upon the completion of his doctorate, he was invited to stay at the university and complete a three-year specialty program in orthodontics while also earning a Masters in Dental Science. This residency program was extremely competitive, but he was able to secure a spot that year, there were 200 applicants for only four positions!

Today, Dr. Cordes regularly attends continuing education seminars and also teaches courses about orthodontics. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor at The University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. He really enjoys this work because the residents keep him on his toes by asking questions, and he is able to learn from them in turn about the latest orthodontic research theyre pursuing.

Dr. Cordes is happily married to his high school sweetheart. They have three sons together, all of whom have started non-profit organizations where they devote their unique talents towards benefitting pediatric patients at Baystate Medical Center and The Shriners Hospital! He loves living and working in Western Massachusetts/Northern Connecticut because of the four distinct seasons he has more hobbies than his free time permits. In the summer, he goes paddle boarding every morning and cycles with his wife in the spring and fall on the beautiful New Haven to Northampton Rail Trail. In the winter, the family skis together all over New England. You can also often find him tapping maple trees and making syrup. Yoga is also a big interest for him all year long.

Before any of that, though, Dr. Cordes is a proud dad and husband first. Since the kids are now in college, he and his wife spend much of the weekends on the road, visiting them at school, dropping off goodies from the grandparents, and yes, even picking them up for the weekend with their dirty laundry.

Our daughter just completed Phase 1 of her braces journey with Dr. Cordes (and team!) at the Enfield, CT location. Dr. Cordes took the time to review her treatment plan with us to help her severe overcrowding. She initially had a palette expander appliance and then moved to the braces. They even offered payment plans (interest-free!) if needed. The staff was very accommodating early on as we would need to schedule additional appointments to address wires or brackets that would pop off (not due to any issues with application, we'll chock those up to first time braces/user-error!) As someone who used another orthodontic practice in the area for Invisalign for my own adult teeth, I can see how Dr. Cordes' practice is tailored to working with children and young adults and would whole-heartedly use them again if/when our other child needs orthodontic care. The little touches enhance the experience (the tie-dye t-shirt she still wears all the time, the bag of candy after today's visit for being a good patient!!) Thanks Dr. Cordes - 5 stars, would totally recommend to a friend! :-D

Mr. Jenkins couldn't be more wrong. Dr. Cordes has done wonderful work with my granddaughter. I assume he does this at a profit which is OK with me. My granddaughter fell off her bike this summer hitting her mouth on the sidewalk. This was well after Dr. Cordes' office closed. Our granddaughter's dentist contacted Dr. Cordes and we all met at the dentist's office. Dr. Cordes left his home, drove to East Longmeadow and spent two hours helping the dentist care for her. Never received a bill for it so if he's only in it for the money he missed one. His only concern was my granddaughter. I have the highest respect for Dr. Cordes and his staff and have no idea what Jenkin's agenda is here but he is 100% wrong.

Dr. Cordes passes himself off as an experienced orthodontist who cares about children. His website showcases the fact that he is a part-time faculty at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine in addition to being an Orthodontist. (Remember the old adage, those who can do, and those who can't teach). His website also states "While at The University of Connecticut, Dr. Cordes received numerous research grants and awards in the field of healthcare economics." That's right, research on the money involved in Orthodontics. Why would a doctor blatantly showcase that he is out for money instead of out to help his patients. That's a bit chilling to think about. This search for profit over caring for patients is also shown in the number of offices he has, three. Yes, Dr. Cordes has three offices (Westfield, MA, Enfield, CT and Suffield, CT.), and only one Doctor, himself. While many Doctors do hold two offices, I feel three is pushing it in terms of good care for patients. This large number of offices fits his profile of looking for profit. Doctors for the most part work hard to earn their degree, and then work hard to maintain a good practice, but in Dr. Cordes case, he is a man solely out for profit above all else. When it comes to Orthodontic treatment, Dr. Cordes seems like a fish out of the water. At the end of treatment, there was still spaces between teeth, still a bite that was not even close to perfect. Some of his staff changed hands a few times during the time going to him, so I wonder why the turnover in that area as well? While he is nice, pleasant, and outgoing, his technical skills in treating orthodontic issues are very lacking. I came across another former patient (whom I attended school with) who was also less than satisfied and not at all thrilled with her results from Dr. Cordes. What a pattern. Do you really want someone who puts profit above his patients well being? Take a look at Dr. Cordes's record before you choose him for treatment, both his academic record and his professional record show a man out for profit, rather than a Doctor trying to make a difference. My recommendation is to find someone else who is more qualified to provide quality orthodontic treatment, because you won't find that with Dr. Cordes. You will find three offices you can go to, and a desk that is always happy to take your money.

I am in my mid twenties, and recently started orthodontic treatment for the second time in my life. My first experience with braces was ten years ago with Dr Cordes. I have since finished college, had children and enjoyed the start of my career. After getting settled in, I wanted to go back and improve my smile even more so than it was. Dr. Cordes did a good job at correcting my issues when I was a teenager, but I was never absolutely thrilled about his work either. While the work was good, I would say there was room for improvement, as with anything in life. I have now started a second treatment with braces with a different doctor, and hope to see some gains in the look and function of my smile and bite. My parents chose to have me go through my first orthodontic treatment with Dr. Cordes based on the recommendations from other parents. Pros Dr. Cordes is a genuinely nice man. He is very caring and always makes one feel comfortable. He is also great with kids. Cons Dr. Cordes always has new technology, and is fun to be a patient of with all of the neat items he has in his office, like crocs shoes and video games, but he doesn't seem to be the best at using the newest training and technology to correct orthodontic issues. While he does good work, I would say his work is also not the best out there compared to some other orthodontists. I would encourage anyone to shop around. Dr. Cordes has many satisfied patients, and maybe he is the right Orthodontist for your needs, maybe he is not. Always do your homework, and get a second opinion to be sure your needs are met, no matter what those needs are. Most importantly, choose your orthodontist wisely, follow all directions given to you during treatment, and keep your teeth clean to avoid any issues with your treatment and your oral health.
