The thing that is most rewarding to me about dentistry is actually being able to change people's lives. Just a small change in how your bite comes together or how you feel can completely distract you and take all your attention to that. When I think of things as severe as a toothache, people lose sleep, people can't think properly, and to be able to have somebody come in in pain and to be able to help them resolve that issue and be able to get back to their daily lives, that's very rewarding. And even I feel on a bigger level, I have people that come into my office, they're very self-conscious about their smile. A lot of times I have patients that say that they never smile big. They always smile through closed lips. I have a lot of people tell me that they rarely laugh, and when they do laugh, they cover their mouth with their hand so that nobody will see their teeth.
In a lot of cases, I'm able to take those patients and restore their teeth to a very aesthetic look and get them to where they don't even think about their teeth anymore. It's interesting how their demeanor will change. They become happier people. They smile more, they laugh more because they don't have to think about it anymore. They can just let it come freely. Not only do a lot of people become happier, but also they're more confident among their peers. I just feel that that's a really good service that I can offer people. I feel like it changes lives.
Dr. Jacob A. Burch grew up on a farm and brings his longtime appreciation for hard work and hometown values to our Houston, TX dental practice. After graduating at the top of his high school class, this Eagle Scout attended Idaho State University and Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry, where he spent four consecutive years on the deans list.
Dr. Burch continued his training in an AEGD (advanced education in general dentistry) residency program at Idaho State University. There he became proficient in a wide variety of dental procedures, including earning certification in administering IV sedation for our patients. Thanks to his advanced, diverse skills, Dr. Burch is able to provide comprehensive, convenient dental care at Copperfield Dentistry. Our patients dont have to travel to multiple specialists for treatment!
A member of the Dental Honor Society and MENSA, Dr. Burch is a highly intelligent, experienced dentist. He also has a keen eye and talent for artistry, which he loves applying to dentistry to transform smiles and change patients lives. Monica Chau, DMD developed a passion for serving her community while growing up in northwest Houston. A graduate of the University of Houston, Dr. Chau earned her DDS from the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health, then completed an advanced general dentistry residency in Phoenix, AZ.
Since entering practice in 2018, she has improved her skills in different areas of dentistry by completing many hours of advanced education. Her passion for community service led her to become a captain in the Texas Army National Guard. She also spends some of her free time as a volunteer for TOMAGWA, a local community health clinic, and has served those in need on numerous mission trips. Away from work, her favorite pastimes include playing tennis, camping, and spending time with her family and dog.
Shawnte joined our team in 2009 but has worked in dentistry since 1997. She has a BS in Biology and is certified in nitrous oxide, HIPAA, OSHA, CPR, phlebotomy, and radiology. Shawnte loves seeing her patients faces after we have transformed their smiles. She enjoys traveling, outdoor activities, and going to church on Sundays. Shawnte and her husband have three kids and a dog. They love spending quality time together.
Karen joined our team in 2017, but her dental career began 20-plus years ago. She is a registered dental assistant and is certified in nitrous oxide, radiology, OSHA, HIPAA, and CPR. Her favorite part of her job is seeing how technology has changed dentistry. She loves to see patients achieve their ultimate smiles. Karen and her husband, Louis, have three children and have been blessed with numerous grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, crafting, and quilting.
Wendy began her dental career in 2001 and joined our team in 2019. She is Spanish speaking and a registered dental assistant, certified in nitrous oxide, CPR, HIPAA, OSHA, radiology, and phlebotomy. Wendy enjoys making our patients feel at home and helping them achieve a wonderful smile. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering at her local church, spending time with family and friends, doing crafts, traveling, and eating cupcakes to fuel up. Wendy has been married to her husband, Angel, since 2014, and they have a wonderful daughter.
Sylvia has been in this practice for over 15 years. Sylvia is Spanish speaking and is certified in OSHA, HIPAA, CPR, nitrous oxide, and laser therapy. She strives to make her patients feel comfortable and provides outstanding service. She loves the connection she has with her long-term patients. In her spare time, she enjoys her grandchildren, who are a big part of her life, and likes to travel. Sylvia has been married to her husband for over 30 years and resides in Copperfield.
Bridget began her career in dentistry in 2004. She is a registered dental assistant certified in nitrous oxide, CPR, HIPAA, OSHA, radiology, and phlebotomy. We proudly welcomed her to our team in 2015. Bridget says that the best part of her job is getting to know her patients, building relationships with them, and helping them gain back their confidence. When she is not working, you will find Bridget spending time with her wonderful, caring, respectful husband and four beautiful daughters, who make her very proud. Bridget also enjoys gardening, sports, traveling, and being outside.
