Dr. Sonia Louca has been practicing pediatric dentistry in Coppell since 2001. In early 2011, she took over the practice under its current name, Coppell Dentistry for Kids. Dr. Sonia Louca has extensive hospital training in Pediatric Dentistry. During her two-year residency at Baylor College of DentistryTAMUS, where she received her specialty certificate in Pediatric Dentistry, she trained at both Childrens Medical Center of Dallas and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. While at Baylor, Dr. Louca taught undergraduate dental students at Baylor College of Dentistry.

When shes not practicing Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Louca volunteers with organizations that provide dental care for underprivileged children in several communities throughout the Dallas area. In addition, she is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a member of multiple dental societies. Prior to living in the Metroplex, Dr. Louca grew up in the Houston area. She enjoys spending most of her spare time with her husband, son, and daughter.

Katie has been in the pediatric dental field for 20 years. She began volunteering at a pediatric dental office at the age of 16, and started her career as a dental assistant eventually moving to the front office. Her dual experience in the clinical aspects field as a dental assistant and the administrative front office skills make her great asset to our practice. She has been Dr. Loucas office manager since 2013. Katie graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in social work, and she is certified in CPR, HIPAA, and OSHA.

Melanie has worked in the dental field since 2000. She joined our practice in 2012, and has embraced the transition to pediatric dentistry. She enjoys serving our patients and helping to coordinate their dental needs. Melanie is certified in CPR, HIPAA, and OSHA.

Melanie resides in The Colony with her husband Kevin and son Kyle. She enjoys spending time with her family along with her two boxers. She spends free time exercising, boating and attending StonebriarCommunity Church.

Sallye has been the receptionist for Coppell Professional Plaza since September of 2000. She just celebrated her 15th year anniversary! Sallye has enjoyed greeting our patients as they walk through the door and watching them grow up year after year. She is a graduate of Texas Christian University with a degree in Education.

Sallye lives in Coppell and is a pillar in the community. She has three married sons and eleven grandchildren who all happen to be Dr. Loucas patients! She enjoys Bible study, needle point, and gardening.

Shana received her Dental Hygiene degree in 1991 from Amarillo College graduating with honors. She joined the practice in 1999 and has found complete joy and fulfillment specializing in the field of pediatric dentistry. She is especially passionate about working with special needs children.

Shana stays active in community volunteer work through her church and PTA. She also served at the Nelson-TebedoCommunity Dental Clinic in Dallas, and most recently with the Serving Him Ministries Community Dental Outreach Program.

Emma is the newest member of our team. She joined Dr. Loucaspractice in January of 2015. She has been a clinical assistant since 2009 and brings knowledge, fresh ideas, and experience from working in a high volume dental practice. Emma is certified in CPR, Coronal Polishing, Nitrous Oxide Monitoring, Radiation and Sealant Application. She also has current certificates in HIPAA and OSHA training.

Sandy was Dr. Loucas full-time clinical assistant from 2001 to 2012. She currently works part-time as needed while working full time for her husbands company. Sandy has over 30 years of dental assisting experience. She is certified in CPR, Coronal Polishing, Nitrous Oxide Monitoring, Radiation, and Sealant Application.

As a pediatric dentist, Dr. Louca considers prevention one of the most important things we do. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends all children establish a dental home within 6 months of eruption of the first tooth and no later than 12-months of age. Assessing a child's risk for developing decay is the first step to a healthy mouth. We help educate parents and children to avoid cavities and other issues, so they can have positive feelings about their teeth and their visits to the dentist. As your childs dental healthcare provider, our team will coach you and your children on healthy hygiene habits and recommend the latest preventive measures, such as fluoride varnish and dental sealants.

Sugar-filled snacks and beverages can quickly lead to tooth decay. If we notice early warning signs, such as softened spots on teeth, we may recommend some tips for a tooth-friendly diet. Drinking water instead of soda and choosing healthy snacks like fruits, vegetables, nuts, cheese, plain yogurt, and boiled eggs can have a significant impact on your childs oral health.

A dinosaur ate your toothbrush? You brushed your teeth yesterday? Children will use any excuse in the book to avoid brushing their teeth. At Coppell Dentistry for Kids, Dr. Louca and our friendly team will demonstrate proper methods of brushing and flossing. We try and make the process fun and educational, so children understand the importance of oral hygiene and look forward to the process.

Early childhood caries was formerly termed Baby bottle tooth decay and is something to be aware of as your infant grows. Your childs teeth are susceptible to decay the moment they emerge which is usually around six months. Infants and toddlers who sleep with bottles of milk, fruit juice, or other sugary beverages may be at an increased risk of tooth decay. To prevent baby bottle tooth decay, use only water-filled bottles at nap and bedtime, and visit us regularly so we can watch for early warning signs. Infants should be weaned from the bottle between 12 and 18 months of age.
