Coppe and Sears Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics - Pediatric dentist in Lexington, MA

Dr. Michael R. Coppe is passionate about pediatric dentistry. 'When I was in dental school, I did an extensive study in Sweden; I was interested in public health, and I visited clinics all over the country. The kids were great! Even if I didnt know their language, I learned I could communicate with them with no trouble.

Dr. Coppe received his undergraduate degree from Fordham University and was awarded his Doctor of Dental Medicine from Harvard University. Along with his post-graduate training in Pediatric Dentistry from Children's Hospital in Boston and Harvard School of Dental Medicine, he also earned his Doctor of Medical Science Degree in Oral Biology from Harvard University.

Many who know Dr. Coppe patients and friends alike know his passion for history, especially 18th century, local history. He was a Colonial reenactor for a long time, and several years ago, he joined the British Tenth Regiment of Foot to reenact the April 19th event on the Lexington Green as a Redcoat. Dr. Coppe has a number of other hobbies including sailing and model trains.

Dr. Carolyn Coppe knew she wanted to be a dentist since she was a small child. 'I grew up in this very office and was always aware of how happy everyone was that worked here. It was an easy decision to make'. Carolyn completed her pediatric dental residency at University of California, San Francisco in 2008, after graduating from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine.

The town of Lexington has been a home to Carolyn since she was 8 months old, and she attended both Hastings and Bridge Elementary school before graduating from Lexington High School. Growing up, Carolyn was a member of the Hayden Precision Teams and still proudly wears the label of 'Haydenette'. Like her father, Carolyn enjoys sailing and can remember attending and participating in the reenactments held on Patriot 's Day.

After graduating from dental school, Carolyn accepted the opportunity to do research at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research in Bethesda, Maryland. It was there that she explored a growing interest in work on dental stem cells from primary (baby) teeth, and she continued this research during her residency at UCSF. Eventually she completed her master thesis on this very topic and was awarded the prestigious Ralph E McDonald Award at the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Annual Meeting in 2008. This highly coveted award is given to the resident with the best overall research manuscript and presentation. In 2011, Carolyn passed the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry examinations. The Mission of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry is to verify to the public and to the health professions that a pediatric dentist has successfully completed both an advanced educational program accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation and a voluntary examination process designed to validate the knowledge, application, and performance requisite to the delivery of exceptional care in pediatric dentistry.

Carolyn met her husband, Zach Peacock at Harvard School of Dental Medicine and they continued their training together at the University of California, San Francisco. Zach is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital. Carolyn and her husband are living in Lexington with their sons, Gregory Harper and Trent Stanley.

Dr. Chad Sears has been an orthodontist since 2003 and was Dr. Carolyn 's dental school classmate. Dr. Chad and Dr. Carolyn have a long history, they became fast friends during a dental school orientation in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Although they discovered that they do not like 'roughing it' in the wilderness, they did begin a beautiful friendship. Since that fateful trip, Dr. Chad and Dr. Carolyn have remained close and have provided each other the moral support that only best friends can give through all of life 's adventures. Dr. Chad began his professional career establishing a successful practice in the heart of downtown San Francisco. He joined our practice in 2015 and provides orthodontic services to our patients including:

Dr. Chad attended the University of California, San Francisco for his orthodontic education where he was selected to be the Chief Resident. He has published his research in peer-reviewed orthodontic journals and was awarded the prestigious Thomas Graber Research Award from the American Association of Orthodontists. He is an eligible Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, and is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California.

Dr. Katie, a board certified Diplomat to the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, completed her undergraduate education at Harvard University and was awarded her D.M.D. from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Her post-doctoral training was completed at Boston Childrens Hospital and the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where she received her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry in 2015. During residency, Dr. Katie did research to determine if antibiotic therapy caused an increase in molar-incisor hypomineralization in patients with Sickle Cell Disease. She is a big believer in preventative dentistry and loves to help coach families on best oral health practices.

Dr. Katie was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. During her free time, she enjoys being active, playing sports such as soccer, ice hockey, golf, tennis and swimming. In high school, she was a member of the Canadian Jr. National Soccer Team and the Team Ontario Hockey Team. Her love of sports then allowed her the opportunity to play both Division I Soccer and Ice Hockey while attending Harvard University. Unfortunately, she was unable to come away with a national hockey title, having lost in the finals in back to back years. Although she spent many hours involved with athletics, she also focused on her studies, obtaining her BA in Human Evolutionary Biology and ensuring she had all her dental school prerequisites.

When she cant get outside to enjoy the sun, she loves reading, cooking and, of course, spending time with her husband (who was a former patient of Dr. Mike Coppe) and her children Adeline, Laurel, Emmett and Colleen.

There is no better feeling than seeing children smile and I get to see it all day long! This practice treats and teaches children in a uniquely positive way how to have healthy oral habits. I was a preschool teacher for 3 years and knew that I wanted to work with children. I attended Middlesex Community College in 2016 and received my Dental Hygiene degree. I am furthering my education at Southern New Hampshire University and receiving my Bachelors in Health Science. I am very grateful to be part of such an amazing and professional office with great people! In my free time, I like to go to the beach, be with my family and friends, and travel to new places all over the world!

We have a very bad experience with this dentist office. They gave us an appointment at 3:30pm, which is school dismissal time. I tried my best to go through traffic and arrived 10 mins later. They told us that we missed the appointment, and let us reschedule. I said if no time to clean , it is okay. We just want to ask the dentist some questions about baby teeth. They refused and insisted on that we must reschedule. They do not consider customer's convenience and time. Very disappointed with this dentist office. Re: Dr. Sears Thank you Dr. Sears! Today is my daughter birthday, she wants dentist see her new grow up teeth before her birthday. I am very sorry to let her down. I am sorry for arriving later, it was my first time that I pick up kid around dismissal time. I tried my best but still not make it. I might should go 1 hour early instead 30 mins early. I just try not disturb her and her school too much. In all my life, I always try to be early or on time for any appointments. Yesterday, I told the lady, it is not necessary to clean. We just need dentist have a look and ask a question about loosing baby teeth. We do not want you guys spend more time on us, but just want to use our time slot. Basically, just because my daughter wants the dentist have a look. You guys 10 mins could save her half day school and my half day job, and you guys get paid for it. I do not know why the lady insist on we must reschedule. As I always told my kids, "someday, when you can determine something for other people, please always try best to be nice. Maybe some very small and easy thing to you, but it might be very Important and difficult to other people."

If you're a new patient, you can only make an appointment in the morning which is not good for the high school students.

My family has been going here for years, but the last few visits our insurance hasn't fully covered the appointments. We've had to pay over $250 for simple cleanings (no x-rays, no fluoride, nothing extra) and the staff was very unhelpful in explaining why this was. Will be going somewhere else.

As an adult over 40 returning to orthodontics after many years I could not recommend this practice more enthusiastically. The office is welcoming and professional. The care given by Dr. Sears and his staff is excellent and was tailored specifically to my needs. They made me feel totally comfortable and not nervous at all. For anyone questioning whether this practice is for them, I would not hesitate to call them and make an appointment. I would give 10 stars if I could!

A wonderful practice that goes above and beyond to make kids feel comfortable. During the appt, the hygienist took the time to explain what was going to happen before actually doing it. For example, explaining that the teeth would be polished and showing my daughter what the polish tool felt like on her fingernail. My daughter loves getting the balloon each time and picking out the character for her toothbrush. As a parent, the staff does a great job of sharing tips for things I can do to help encourage good dental habits in my kids. Just a wonderful practice that I can't say enough good things about!!

They are wonderful with my son who has high functioning ASD. They have known him since he was a baby and have always been patient and kind. I would and have recommended them to anyone with children, especially children with neurodiversity. Guy is particularly fantastic! My son is always excited to get the extra large balloons after every appointment and they often have an open house with a magician to get the kids used to the office without the scariness of only appointments. Plus, the new offices are gorgeous. The senior Dr Coppe has been practicing in Lexington for decades and everyone loves him. His daughter has done a great job of joining in his footsteps! We love her!

My son was so scared of the dentist before we found Dr. Coppe. He has had a cleaning and three fillings so far. He tells his friends, "I like my new dentist. They tell me what they are going to do." The kindness with which he has been handled far exceeds my expectations.
