Dr. McAvoy grew up in Mequon, Wisconsin. She earned her Bachelors degree from Marquette University majoring in Biology and Chemistry. After graduating she continued her education on an Army Health Professions Scholarship at the University of Florida College of Dentistry, earning her Doctorate of Dental Medicine in May 2003.
Following graduation, she served in the United States Army for 5 years.Dr. McAvoy completed a 1-year Advanced General Dentistry Residency Program at Ft. Meade, Maryland. She then served 3 years with the Heidelberg DENTAC in Hanau, Germany taking care of soldiers and their family members. Dr. McAvoy currently resides in Lakewood Ranch with her husband, sonand daughter. She is an active member of the Florida Dental Association, the West Coast Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. She also has a passion for Marine Science and Conservationand actively serves on the Advisory Council for Mote Marine Laboratories located in Sarasota, Florida.
Dr. Ann Mooney graduated as a Biology/Pre-Dental major from the University of Scranton, Scranton, PA. She earned her Doctorate of Dental Medicine degree from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. During her residency she focused on emergency, cosmetic, and routine dental cases in a community clinic environment. Upon graduation she received the Outstanding Achievement in Endodontology award. Dr. Mooney and her high school sweetheart, Seth, married and relocated to their dream destination, Sarasota, Florida to pursue their careers. Dr. Mooney implements the latest research-based dental practices that benefit her patients. She keeps her dental skills current by attending clinics, workshops and professional courses. Dr. Mooney finds fulfillment in taking a fearful patient and transforming their anxiety into comfort and confidence. Time and time again, I see patients that are extremely frightened to come to the dentist; but with patience, understanding, and modern dentistry, it is truly remarkable to see that same patient change their perception and their smile. I love to see people benefiting from what I love to do.' When not working to improve the dental health, appearances, and confidence levels of her patients, Dr. Mooney,herhusband, and son, enjoy all outdoor activities, including boating, biking, the arts, and family time.
We attended Chief 's Luau where our whole group aka 'The Cooper Creek Ohana' got to enjoy Kalua Pork, Poi Rolls, Poke and of course lots of Pineapple! We were entertained by traditionalPolynesian dancing and fire-knife throwing. It was a great evening!! **Ohana means family in Hawaiian

Cooper Creek is amazing! They helped me finally get my teeth in shape and stay that way. Everyone is pleasant and professional, but I especially love Cara and Dr. McAvoy!

I could not be more happy with Dr. McAvoy and the team at Cooper Creek Dental. I have been a patient for many years and have referred many others to her for care. She's the perfect combination of professional and friendly. I also love that I see her at events in the community and occasionally at the grocery store - my hometown dentist!

Today was a cleaning appointment and check up for me. They are thorough, listen to any of your concerns and are friendly. If you want a straight shooter, Dr Mooney is the one for you. I happen to appreciate an honest response which includes options for my care. The staff is friendly. I am very happy with the excellent care I have received at Cooper Creek Dental.

the staff at Cooper creek dental is wonderful!! Karla, my hygienist,is caring with a very personable, sweet manner about her,making one feel comfortable!! an absolute delight!...she's Fabulous! Dr. Mooney is such a wonderful professional,allways empathetic and focussed on you the person as well as the patient. and lastly, Cory, the billing co-ordinator was extremely helpful and able to provide clear, objective responses to all of our concerns and questions! the entire office staff is always happy to attend to all of my questions with a smile and care! that says a bunch about a dental practice!!1

I've been going here for years and am very happy with my experience. Dr. Mooney is thorough but never pushy. Another dentist told me I needed a old crown replaced but she said to wait and see as doing that might create problems. Sure enough I've been fine. My insurance changed and I went to another dentist - huge mistake. They told me I needed that crown replaced plus an expensive treatment on my gums, both of which proved to be unnecessary. I am now back and seeing Dr. Mooney out of network - not expensive and well worth it since she doesn't overtreat. My hygenist Alli is friendly and remembers my peculiarities. I've recommended this dental practice to others and will continue to do so.
