A practicing orthodontist since 1980, Dr. Craig Coombs prides himself on offering the same orthodontic and personal care to each and every patient that he would offer his own family. In addition to the years of experience he brings to his practice, he is among a small percentage of orthodontists worldwide who have passed the rigorous academic and clinical requirements to become board certified, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. Dr. Coombs is an Invisalign Gold Plus Provider.
Dr. Coombs grew up locally and graduated from Bonneville High School as class valedictorian. He completed his pre-dental education at Brigham Young University, and graduated magna cum laude. He attended dental school at University of the Pacific in San Francisco, where he finished at the top of his class. While there, Dr. Coombs was inducted into the TKO and OKU National Dental Honor fraternities. He received his specialist in orthodontics certificate from the University of Oregon Health Science Center after completion of a two-year residency program there.
Dr. Coombs is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, and the Wasatch Orthodontics Study Club. He is a past president of the Utah Association of Orthodontists and served as president of the Rocky Mountain Association of Orthodontists from 2011 to 2012. Dr. Coombs is dedicated to providing his patients with the highest quality of orthodontic care and attends several continuing education courses each year.
Dr. Coombs and his wife Rita have five children and 18 grandchildren. He has a daughter who is a dental hygienist, a son who is an orthodontist in New Mexico, and a son who is a dentist in Oregon. In his spare time, he enjoys water skiing, snow skiing, and spending time with his family. Dr. Coombs is active in his community and gives charitable donations to local schools and community programs.

If my face looks a little familiar that would be because I worked for Dr. Coombs previously for many years. I moved to Las Vegas 7 years ago and recently moved back in June 2019 to our home in Layton. Dr. Coombs and his office is such a wonderful place to work so it was a no brainer to return working here. Incredible place. Everyone is so friendly, especially Julie. I've been a high maintenance patient, and they have been so kind to me. Dr. Coombs knows his stuff, has a good sense of humor, and is a great orthodontist. Very thankful for all of the people at the office!

Coombs is the best! My daughter accidentally came at the wrong time for her appointment. They got her in anyway which was probably an inconvenience for them but, they happily made it work for her. They go over and beyond the norm!

I had other consultations at other orthodontist offices and was quoted $5,000-$6,000. All I really needed was to move my teeth back to where they had shifted from not having worn a retainer after having braces as a kid. Dr. Coombs gave me options to get my smile back. I was given three options and was so thrilled to hear I didn't need to do anything near $5,000, in fact you can take off a whole zero. I am grateful for Dr. Coombs integrity and would highly recommend Coombs Orthodontics. He made my dream of restoring my smile a reality. Thank You!

The office, the staff and the doctor himself just make you feel important. The staff works together in unison and there is just simple happiness that when you walk in the door lifts your day. Dr.Coombs work is impeccable which is the most important thing. This was my 3rd set of braces (the 2 before were from someone else) and he finally fixed my problem and listened. I wish I would have found him years ago!!! Thank you everyone at the office

We have absolutely loved Coombs orthodontics. They do excellent work and get the kids in and out quickly. Their prices are WAY better than others In the area. I love that they are upfront with you and have no hidden costs. It's just good, honest, orthodontic work.

Great board-certified orthodontist. (Most around here aren't board-certified.) That ensures they really know what they're doing and are up on the latest procedures. Friendly staff and convenient appointments. I highly recommend!

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I felt that Dr. Coombs was interested in me and willing to take the time to thoroughly answer my questions. He did not appear as though he wanted to "rush and get done" as I have sometimes experienced in doctor or dentist appointments.

I'm so happy with my experience at Coombs Orthodontics and am delighted with my new smile! I was so nervous to get braces but because Dr Coombs and the team were so attentive to all of my questions and concerns it helped me be at ease with the process! I'm a fine artist oil painter by profession and because of that I'm kinda picky when it comes to something like my smile. Thankfully Dr Coombs is very attentive to every detail and highly knowledgeable when it comes to achieving the correct bite which was exactly what I was looking for when choosing an orthodontist! I have had 2 children receive orthodontic treatment from Dr. Coombs. With technology he quickly assesses the issues and treatment options. It's ideal to have a free consultation when your child is around 7. My kids feel safe despite the awkward and uncomfortable appliances and I enjoy the competency of the staff and the prices! I have several friends recommend Dr. Coombs, and saw him supporting local groups/teams -- he has certainly made a name for himself with quality and great heart -- the best combination!

We've come here for 2 kids now. My special needs kid needed a palate expander. After seeing that her teeth were still misaligned after expansion they put braces on her for no extra cost just so she could have a normal bite. Of course, we came back for my son who has a molar coming in sideways. Their prices are reasonable and they get your kids in and out without a ton of waiting around.

I highly recommend Coombs Orthodontics. My dentist, Dr. Keefer in Clearfield, recommended him and I remember he said he was a perfectionist. I really liked that but I still shopped around at three other orthodontists. Dr. Coombs was the only orthodontist that gave me personalized one on one appointment time, described all of my options in detail and explained the steps and processes. By far, he gave the best impression as an orthodontist, of his practice and of what his practice would offer. He is intelligent, professional and humble. They even stayed a bit over closing time to make sure I had all of my questions answered; I never felt rushed or pressured. Over the past year and a half, Dr. Coombs was so kind and patient to make sure the process went perfectly. He referred me to an outstanding endodontist and surgeon and my unique situation was completely corrected without any issues or problems. Moving through the process, he listened to my questions and he addressed them perfectly to make sure I was completely satisfied at every appointment. He alleviated any concerns I had and I felt quite comfortable as a patient. He used advanced technology such as a 3-D imaging (not old school tray modeling), advanced X-ray and 3-D printers. After I decided to go with Coombs Orthodontics, their staff informed me of a $500 discount with Invisalign. They were competitively priced but that was a pleasant bonus that made it $500 cheaper! That early on, added to the value of their customer service. Darla, the manager, was the most kind, smart, patient and professional I have seen in years. She was exceptional and provided very personalized service, was super accommodating with my work, personal and traveling schedule. She answered my calls back timely and professionally. I think she is a great person, too. The office is super clean, well organized and run, and it was easy to get or reschedule appointments as needed. I never had waiting time; I was in and out promptly. In hindsight, that really stands out as to how well their office is run. They also used text reminders that were so helpful. Julie the receptionist was also super cheerful and kind and very accommodating. She was always smiling and very up beat. The other dental staff were also very kind, friendly and professional. A young but mature staff, very competent and well trained and Dr. Coombs watched and checked at every step. All of the staff added to the welcoming, friendly and comfortable environment. And even with COVID challenges, the office ran smoothly and I observed how well they implemented proper sanitation practices and procedures. I just can't say enough about the experience and service I had. It was a totally positive process. My teeth look fantastic! Perfectly straight! I am so glad everything went so well.
