When youre experiencing an injured tooth or severe oral pain, finding relief as soon as possible is surely all you can think about. Far too often, our team hears from frustrated patients who have been told by several dental offices in the area that they cant see them for weeks, even for emergency care. Thankfully, thats not the way our Rock Hill team works. When you reach out to us, our first question will be: how soon can you get here? Although our dental office has a comfortably old-school atmosphere, our actual tools and techniques are anything but! Dr. Coombs and Dr. Ross are proud to utilize several advanced technologies in order to elevate our patient care to even higher levels. We use digital X-rays for comprehensive diagnosis, soft tissue lasers for comfortable periodontal therapy, intraoral cameras for improved patient education, and much more.

While he was originally born in Norfolk, VA, Dr. Coombs grew up in Charleston. At a young age, he got to see what being a dentist was really like thanks to his father. Since he was also a dentist, he got to see firsthand the high level of art and science that was required to provide quality dentistry, and watching his father gave the necessary insight to recognize that it was the field for him. With over 36 years of clinical experience under his belt, (including 32 years at Coombs & Ross Family Dentistry), theres not a day that goes by where he isnt happy to he serving up smiles to the community!

Dr. Coombs attended Bishop England High School in Charleston, then enrolled into Clemson University before going to dental school. Following his undergraduate education, he went on to earn his dental degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. During his general practice residency at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, he was ranked first in his class. He would eventually go on to be assigned to the USS Samuel Gompers in Alameda, CA as the dedicated dental officer. After two years of duty, he would practice general dentistry in Anderson, SC, then practice in his very own dental office in Rock Hill in 1987.

Following his formal education, Dr. Coombs would go on to earn his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry as well as Fellowship in the International College of Dentistry. He has since studied at multiple professional organizations and institutions, including the Pankey Institute of Dentistry, the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies, SPEAR Education, and the Dawson Academy. He holds training in all aspects of dentistry, particularly in restorative dentistry, dental implants, and endodontics.

Dr. Coombs was also appointed by the SC State Board of Dentistry by Governor Haley in December of 2013 and served a six-year term. There, he served as president. Today, hes a member of the following dental organizations:

Dr. Coombs is happily married to his wife of 36 years, Karen. They have two grown children who are happily married and have since been blessed with two grandchildren. In his spare time, He enjoys traveling with his family, playing golf, and competitive running. Hes completed three marathons, including the Boston Marathon.
