Dr. David Amram or Dr. David, as he prefers, is a native of Queens, N.Y. and graduated high school with honors at the prestigious Bronx High School of Science. At the age of 17 David was profiled in New York Newsday after he received a Team Leadership Award for participating in community projects in underprivileged neighborhoods. David went on to attend SUNY Binghamton where he graduated Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology. From upstate New York, David then moved to Boston, Massachusetts where he received his D.M.D. degree from the Harvard University School of Dental Medicine where he also graduated with honors. David then returned to New York and completed his advanced post-graduate training in the specialty of Orthodontics at Montefiore Medical Center / Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he spent one year as Chief Resident.

After spending two and a half years as an associate at Coolsmiles, David officially became a partner in January 2006. In March 2006, David was honored to be certified by the American Board of Orthodontists as a Diplomate, reflecting the high quality of orthodontic treatment practiced at Coolsmiles. David has a keen interest in interceptive and preventive orthodontics as well as experience with adult and surgical orthodontics and is an Invisalign premier provider. David continues to learn and stay engaged in the latest innovations in dentistry by being a member of the Long Island Dental Forum, The Port Jeff Study Club, The Spear Study Club, and the Eastern Long Island Dental Implant Study Club and is also a Board Member of the Suffolk County Dental Society.

He is married to his wife Amy, an audiologist from East Northport, and has three daughters, Juliette, Naomi, and Summer. When not spending time with his family, David enjoys volunteering for the Make-a-Wish Foundation and the Learning for Life Program. He also enjoys playing golf and basketball and looks forward to meeting you personally.

Dr. Justin Ohnigian was born and raised in Old Bethpage, New York where he graduated with honors from Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School. He went on to graduate from SUNY Binghamton, Cum Laude, with a degree in Biology as well as an adjunct degree in Business Management. Dr. Justin spent his next four years earning a Doctorate Degree from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, where he also earned the award for Excellence in Orthodontics. After a 2-and-a-half-year Orthodontic residency program at Seton Hill University outside of Pittsburgh, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Orthodontics as well as a Masters of Science degree in Orthodontics.

In 2015, Dr. Justin was thrilled to join The Coolsmiles team and begin his career in private practice. Dr. Justin was recognized by the American Board of Orthodontics as a Diplomate and joined the small and elite group of Orthodontists certified by The Board. He has extensive experience in treating children, teens, and adults while employing multiple different treatment modalities. He has also achieved Diamond status, as a top 1% Invisalign provider. Dr. Justin is a Board member of the Suffolk County Dental Society, where he annually participates in Give Kids a Smile as well as a member of the American Association of Orthodontics, Northeastern Society of Orthodontists, American Dental Association and the Port Jefferson Study Club.

Dr. Justin is married to his wife Julie, who is a Global Market Manager at Marchon Eyewear. Together they are parents to their two children Henry and Ella. Aside from Orthodontics, Dr. Justin enjoys playing basketball, golf, swimming, cycling, running, and skiing. Dr. Justin also loves cooking and a good old fashioned BBQ!

No. All orthodontists must be licensed to practice, but at this time only 1 in 3 orthodontists have continued on to become a board certified orthodontist. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) certification process signifies a unique achievementa significant step beyond the two to three years of advanced education required for a dentist to become a specialist in orthodontics. The process requires the orthodontist to demonstrate actual accomplishments in patient care with detailed case reports on the treatment provided for a broad range of patient problems. Board certification is a voluntary achievement that all orthodontists do not choose to pursue. In order to become board certified by the ABO, an individual orthodontist is thoroughly interviewed by a highly respected panel of examiners to demonstrate their orthodontic knowledge, clinical skills and judgment.

One. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) is the only certifying board in the specialty that is recognized by the American Dental Association. The ABO was founded in 1929 and is the oldest specialty board in dentistry. The boards purpose is to elevate the quality of orthodontic care for the public by promoting excellence through certification, education and professional collaboration.

Successful completion of the examination process demonstrates the orthodontists highest commitment to excellence in orthodontics to both the orthodontic profession and the general public. It represents a commitment by a licensed specialist that he/she has the necessary knowledge base and skills to treat patients to the highest of standards. It exemplifies a practitioners commitment to continue to keep abreast of the latest advances in patient care, and to continue to deliver these latest advances to patients. Many orthodontists see it as a demonstration of their dedication to the specialty and the highest level of personal achievement.

Since the establishment of the ABO in 1929, the certification process requirements have continued to adjust to the demands of the specialty. Today, the process involves a thorough Written Examination (240 questions) covering all areas of information which an orthodontist should be knowledgeable. Successful completion of this board exam allows the orthodontist to proceed to the Clinical Examination where they present detailed case reports from their practice/residency, demonstrating a history of excellence in patient care. These cases are evaluated by a panel of examiners and later discussed during an oral examination where the applicant is tested on a wide variety of academic and clinical topics. After successful completion of these examinations, the orthodontist has officially achieved Board Certification, for a time-limited period. The orthodontist must go through Certification Renewal every 10 years to maintain their certification status by demonstrating this continued level of patient care.

Our goal was to eliminate the gooey, drippy, messy impressions that everyone hates. We were one of the first health care practices in the country to use computerized patient charting and imaging. Our state of the art x-ray imaging system reduces radiation exposure by over 50% compared to traditional x-ray machines. We feel strongly that using computer technology allows our team to give our undivided attention where it belongs to our patients.

Many orthodontic problems can be prevented if treated early. Our early treatment program for children has enabled us to intercept developing problems and reduce the amount of time in future braces. Our strong philosophy of not extracting healthy permanent teeth is supported with the use of expanders and other functional appliances that work with a childs natural growth (ages 5-10).

Dr. Amram and Dr. Ohnigian volunteer their time to many community and civic organizations. Dr. Amram is a volunteer for the Make-a-Wish foundation, an organization that grants seriously ill children their most cherished wishes. After being contacted by the foundation, he recently donated his time and expertise to provide a child in need with a beautiful smile. Dr. Amram is also active with the Learning for Life program: a program designed to prepare young adults to successfully handle the complexities of contemporary society by reinforcing the ideal that all doors are open to them.
