Delaying treatment for gum disease, injuries and tooth decay can lead to missing teeth. In fact, health statistics show nearly 70 percent of adults are missing at least one tooth by the time they reach 44 years of age. And by age 74, more than 25 percent of adults have lost all of their natural teeth. Dental implants are a popular, tooth-replacement alternative to wearing traditional dentures and fixed bridges, which sit directly on top of the gums or depend on neighboring teeth to stay in place. Traditional methods also increase the risk of bone loss. Although conventional methods are still a safe option for addressing missing teeth, compared to dental implants, they also come with certain risks and complications.
Dental implants, which are made of durable, decay-resistant titanium, are a sustainable solution for replacing one or more missing teeth. Dental implants are also a popular choice for patients who have had previous dental work and want to reinforce or replace old bridges and dentures. Your periodontist places the dental implants into your jaw bone where it fuses with your existing bone (called osseointegration). Outcomes are usually very successful for the majority of patients with results typically lasting for decades.
Crystal is an UNCW alumna with a degree in Communication Studies and became part of the Cook Perio team in December 2012. Her role as Practice Ambassador is to be a liaison between our office and referring doctors. She is dedicated to making sure the referral & treatment process is seamless for everyone, especially the patient. Crystal also coordinates all events and study club meetings. In her free time she loves to go to yard sales and snuggle her adopted doggies, Pinto & Drax.
Michelle became part of the Cook Periodontics family in January 2018. Michelle is originally from Long Island, New York and made Wilmington her home in 2005. With over 20 years of medical and dental experience, Michelle's main focus is patient care -- which includes everything from the initial phone call to the healthy smile her patients receive after completing treatment with our doctors. With a laugh that is contagious, Michelle is well-known for keeping everyone smiling at the office. In her spare time she loves spending time with her husband, her 2 English Bulldogs (Darla and Buster), and traveling around North Carolina to watch her niece dance in competitions.
Shaun has been a dental hygienist since 1986 and for the majority of this time she has been a hygienist in a periodontal office. Shaun feels that this is her area of expertise! She always continues to challenge her professional skills through continuing education and new products. She loves meeting and getting to know new faces and helping people have a healthy smile. She loves spending time with her family, children, and friends. She also loves the beach and boating!
Born and raised in Southern Maryland, Becky worked as a Dental Assistant while attending her first two years of College. Moving to Wilmington in 2014 to study dental hygiene, Becky earned her Dental Hygiene Degree from Cape Fear Community College in May of 2017. She is passionate about dental health care education and is serving her second term as a Trustee for the North Carolina Dental Hygienists Association representing the Cape Fear region. She joined the Cook Periodontics & Dental Implants team in February of 2018. When away from the office Becky enjoys reading, backyard gardening, weekend travels with her boyfriend Justin, and taking care of their two dogs, Pete and Charlie.
Arianna earned a B.S. in human biology from SUNY Albany and her dental assistant diploma from CFCC. Upon graduation, Arianna joined our team in August 2017. As part of the Cook Perio team, Arianna enjoys making her patients feel comfortable about their dental treatment through humor and education. She was born in NY but loves the warm weather of the NC Coast. Ariannas other loves include her husband Paul, everything Disney, and the beach!
Cerrissa is dedicated and focused on giving our patients her full attention to provide them a super friendly and comfortable experience at every visit. One of Cerrissas top priorities is to keep our patients informed on what to expect regarding their treatment and is always more than happy to answer any questions as she truly enjoys what she does. Outside of work Cerrissa volunteers as a den mother for her son Corbins Boy Scout pack. Some of Cerrissas interests include outdoor activities like exercising, and camping, as well as curling up on the couch with a good book.
Brooke graduated from Cape Fear Community College with a diploma in dental assisting in 2018. She joined our team right after. Her favorite thing about periodontics is seeing transformations from surgeries that make patients proud of their smile. In her free time, Brooke loves country music concerts, going to sports games with her husband, Ryan, playing with her son, Asher, and volunteering at her church.

Cook Periodontics continues to excel in their care for their patients. Had a wonderful encounter with Elizabeth, who greeted my husband by name( after meeting him 1x) as well as the other patients that were arriving/leaving. It showed me her interpersonal skill set to greet patients making them feel welcomed immediately. As I was waiting, I also observed her administrative and organizational strengths and strong communication skills and asked a few quick question to realize the asset she is to Cook and her heart and creativity for the community at large. Great person up front to manage/facilitate the process. Also, Shawn continues to provide excellent genuine care for my husband with LBD...she is wonderful and I am so grateful for her professionalism that continues to go above and beyond . Highly recommend!!!!!

Very caring, very professional! From the office staff, Brooke, to the assistant, Cerrissa, to one of the greatest speciality dentists anywhere, Dr Cook, I have been very well taken care of from the first time I stepped into her office. They explain exactly what is going to be done before your appointment, and they explain the process while they are performing the procedure. Very helpful as there are no surprises and you know exactly what to expect and when. I highly recommend Dr Cook and her practice if you are in need of this speciality.

I recently saw Dr. Jenkins for the removal of a tooth that had been bothering me for quite some time. From the moment I made the appointment with the office staff, they were helpful and got me scheduled quickly. At my initial appointment, Dr. Jenkins was so friendly and took the time to explain exactly what the procedure would be like. They quickly got me scheduled for the removal and it went so smoothly, and painlessly!, I cannot recommend Dr. Jenkins or his staff more!!

I was in the Leland office this past week for a procedure. I had the absolute privilege of being taken care of by two outstanding young ladies, Cerrissa and Brooke. Both of these ladies were friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. Dr. Adam Jenkins of Cook Periodontics placed an implant in two days ago (something I have procrastinated on and have been dreading for years). The entire process was seamless and actually a very pleasant experience. Every member of the team was professional, knowledgeable and polite. No one tried to upsell me on anything while I was there. Everything was all inclusive in the price agreed upon; what a relief and pleasure in this day and age. Made me feel special yesterday afternoon when I received a telephone directly from Dr. Jenkins to ask how I was making out. My post-op appointment is in two weeks that I am looking forward to. 5 stars to the team at Cook Periodontics. Class all the way!

I recently had oral surgery and I am currently recovering under the care of Dr Cook. While I can't say my recovery is painless, I will say my experience has been very positive and Dr Cook and her staff have gone above and beyond to make sure my recovery is as comfortable as possible. From the initial consult until I left the office after the procedure, my experience was exceptional. Dr. Cook's chair side demeanor is very caring and professional. Both Arianna, my Dental Assistant and Michelle, my Care Coordinator, could not have been better. I had clear instructions( oral and written) from both ladies pre- and post- surgery Dr. Cook and her staff are very professional and I highly recommend them to anyone needing dental surgery

I am a new patient with Cook periodontics and have just had surgery by Doctor Cook. Dr. Cook and her staff were professional, caring, and very efficient. They communicated with me clearly and I never had a question about what the doctor was doing or why. In addition, both the Leland and Wilmington offices are clean, the equipment is state of the art, and their COVID procedures are very thorough. I am very difficult to please when it comes to dentists and Dr. Cook and her staff rate an 11 on a scale of 10. I would recommend Dr. Cook and her staff without reservation. (FYI - I have no connection to Dr. Cook, and this review is totally unsolicited.)

Had an implant performed yesterday and Cerrissa Brooke made it a pleasant experience. She was very professional and explained everything that I needed to do after the implant. Dr. Cook is also fantastic as I really hate getting the deadening shots but she is the best ever at administering them. They both made a truly less than pleasant procedure a good experience. Will definitely use again if the occasion arises.

The entire process was seamless and "painless". Michelle handles the scheduling and pre-visit paperwork. She was able to book my wife and I simultaneously saving us a trip to Leyland. We went straight to our rooms and the support staff of Brooke, Arianna and Cerrissa got us settled in, outlined the procedures, and ensured we were comfortable. Dr Cook came in, took charge, answered any questions and got to it. Everyone was upbeat and clearly proud to be part of the team. In 30 minutes a tooth was extracted and 2 implant posts installed. I've previously had similar procedures and this was clearly my best experience. Not that I would ever "look forward" to surgery, but I'll come back to Dr Cook and her Team

Just had first side deep cleaned. Becky and Michelle were extremely thorough and professional. I have the second side scheduled for next week and confident Shawn will be at the same level. Even though I don't like dental procedures of any kind, I enthusiastically recommend these guys (all gals).
