As a pediatric dentist my goal is to help children, adolescents and adults achieve their full potential. Driven by a holistic view of wellness and based on sound scientific principles of growth and development, I focus on creating smiles that are appealing and functional.
My primary focus is prevention. Using the latest state-of-the-science approach, I teach children and teens how to have a healthy mouth and healthy teeth. But if dental disease is present, my team and I will create a personalized treatment plan to address all the issues in the most effective manner and in the most comfortable atmosphere possible.
One of my strong beliefs is that advanced technology has the potential to improve dental care. As such, we at Convivial Dental invest heavily on technology to improve the quality of care and patient experience. Some of the high technologies we use include CBCT three-dimensional x-rays, intra-oral scanners, lasers, and more.
One of the most promising technologies in Dentistry is the dental laser. Use of the laser demands that the operator has special training and experience. I am certified by the American Dental Laser Institute in the use of dental lasers and have extensive experience in performing laser-assisted dental surgeries. I often lecture regularly about the use of lasers in Dentistry and enjoy teaching young dentists how to use them efficiently and safely. I also served as the Laser Safety Officer of the Boston University Dental School and was member of the University-wide Sub-Committee on Dental Laser Safety.
In addition to being a specialist in pediatric dentistry, I am also a specialist and certified Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Public Health. Dental public health is one of the ten recognized dental specialties in the USA, and it is considered the specialty of disease prevention and health promotion.
I am also active in dental education. I am a member of the American Dental Education Association and serve as Consultant for the Commission on Dental Accreditation (2013-14). I currently serve a seven year term at the American Board of Dental Public Health (President of the Board 2021-22). In the past I have provided expert consulting for various organizations and government agencies including the Office of the Inspector General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the National Institutes of Health and the World Health Organization.
I have called Boston home since 1991. I am married to Dr. Vicky Cartsos, our orthodontist, and we have two young sons that pursue College at Dartmouth. We also have a thirteen-year-old miniature Dachshund dog, Daphne.
My philosophy is to provide the highest quality of orthodontics and dentofacial jaw orthopedics to improve oral health both in terms of esthetics and function. I take pleasure in creating warm, nurturing relationships, working with children and adults of all ages, with goals to correct malocclusions (irregular bites) and to align teeth with the jaws, creating well-balanced smiles and harmonious faces. My wish is to embolden my patients with health and confidence to conquer their future aspirations and to enjoy life to the fullest.
Since I have over 20 years of clinical and academic experience, I have the ability to customize orthodontic treatment and cater to each persons needs and life-styles with various modes of treatments. I love working with children of every age and enjoy working with adults as well.
I am a co-founding member of the Tufts Medical Center Craniofacial-Cleft Lip & Palate Team (Hospital Affiliate). For the last 10 years, my passion and mission has been to contribute my orthodontic services to this multidisciplinary team to address complex cases. I often work in conjunction with Pediatric ENT specialists, Plastic Surgeons, Oral Surgeons, Pediatric Dentists, Geneticists, Speech pathologists, Audiologists and Nutrition specialists to provide total rehabilitation of the face, teeth and jaws.
