Convivial Dental - Pediatric dentist in Chestnut Hill, MA

As a pediatric dentist my goal is to help children, adolescents and adults achieve their full potential. Driven by a holistic view of wellness and based on sound scientific principles of growth and development, I focus on creating smiles that are appealing and functional.

My primary focus is prevention. Using the latest state-of-the-science approach, I teach children and teens how to have a healthy mouth and healthy teeth. But if dental disease is present, my team and I will create a personalized treatment plan to address all the issues in the most effective manner and in the most comfortable atmosphere possible.

One of my strong beliefs is that advanced technology has the potential to improve dental care. As such, we at Convivial Dental invest heavily on technology to improve the quality of care and patient experience. Some of the high technologies we use include CBCT three-dimensional x-rays, intra-oral scanners, lasers, and more.

One of the most promising technologies in Dentistry is the dental laser. Use of the laser demands that the operator has special training and experience. I am certified by the American Dental Laser Institute in the use of dental lasers and have extensive experience in performing laser-assisted dental surgeries. I often lecture regularly about the use of lasers in Dentistry and enjoy teaching young dentists how to use them efficiently and safely. I also served as the Laser Safety Officer of the Boston University Dental School and was member of the University-wide Sub-Committee on Dental Laser Safety.

In addition to being a specialist in pediatric dentistry, I am also a specialist and certified Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Public Health. Dental public health is one of the ten recognized dental specialties in the USA, and it is considered the specialty of disease prevention and health promotion.

I am also active in dental education. I am a member of the American Dental Education Association and serve as Consultant for the Commission on Dental Accreditation (2013-14). I currently serve a seven year term at the American Board of Dental Public Health (President of the Board 2021-22). In the past I have provided expert consulting for various organizations and government agencies including the Office of the Inspector General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the National Institutes of Health and the World Health Organization.

We went in for my 3 week old daughter to be seen for her lip & tongue tie and Dr Zavras did the procedure the same day. They called with a cancellation- I live an hour away and they saw me even though I was about 30 mins past the appointment time. This was such a relief and has made breastfeeding so much easier and painless. The procedure was quick and overall our experience was great.

I was so pleased with our experience start to finish this morning. My son is very nervous in new/medical settings and having a kids waiting area, the tv on the ceiling, and the balloons and stickers made such a difference for him. All the staff and doctors were also so welcoming and patient. I'm really happy I chose this practice!

My daughter is a patient of Dr. Cartsos. We travel almost an hour (depending on traffic) to see her but it is absolutely worth it. We used to go to the the different orthodontist but had many complications. Dr. Cartsos started from the beginning, changed every single wire and bracket and did an amazing job fixing her problem. We are very grateful and highly recommend her to anyone who needs orthodontic care.

I have been taking my 3 year old and 6 year old to Convivial Dental for a few years now. The staff there is AMAZING. They always make them feel super comfortable and because of them my kids love going to the dentist. Convivial has made taking the kids to the dentist a joy and I will continue to go there for years to come.

We were impressed for awhile and then they recommended more and more things that weren't necessary (we've gotten 2nd opinions). Also a huge amount of turnover. We are on the hunt for a new practice.

Deidre is always pleasant and does a great job on my teeth! I also met Dr. Ford today and he gave me a thorough exam and identified a couple issues he can address in an upcoming visit. He also mentioned he was in the Army and I think it's great the practice hired a talented veteran. I'll be back soon!

Convivial Dental and Drs. Zavras and Cartsos are THE BEST pediatric dentist and orthodontist. As a pediatrician with 4 kids I've spent many hours alongside pediatric providers in both New York and Boston, and they are two of the most professional, caring and accessible clinicians I've interacted with either personally or professionally. Furthermore, the office staff is responsive, kind and flexible which makes a huge difference when juggling a busy household.

Dr.Cartsos has overseen my invisialign treatment for the past 10 months. She has done an amazing job each step of the way. I couldn't be happier with the results! Almost a year ago I was in constant pain and could not close my mouth fully. And now, everything has been fixed and I look and feel just great!
