Dr. Lauren J. Shanard is a dentist proudly serving residents in and around the Burlington area and greater New York. With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Shanard has a passion for creating beautiful and healthy smiles using her skills in both artistry and advanced dentistry techniques. Her goal when treating patients at Contemporary Dental Arts is to create results that restore both the functionality and aesthetic appeal of their smiles. People travel from throughout Vermont to Dr. Shanard's practice in search of cosmetic, restorative, and general dentistry procedures. With accreditation from the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr. Shanard is able to skillfully provide enhanced outcomes for her patients. Dr. Shanard is also the only accredited Cosmetic Dentist in the state of Vermont.
At her Williston, VT practice, Dr. Shanard performs a wide variety of dental procedures and treatments in order to improve the overall oral health of her patients and renovate the appearance of their smiles. As a part of cosmetic dentistry, she offers porcelain veneers, smile makeovers, teeth whitening, and tooth-colored fillings. The restorative procedures she performs include dental bonding and contouring, dental bridges, dental crowns, full-mouth restoration, inlays and onlays, root canal therapy, and tooth extractions. Additionally, Dr. Shanard offers bone grafting, implant-retained dentures, implant-retained bridges, and implant-retained crowns for patients in need of implant dentistry options. In order to provide preventive and maintenance care, Dr. Shanard also conducts routine dental examinations and cleanings, as well as periodontal services. For patients who experience fearor anxiety about receiving dental care, Dr. Shanards office offers oral-conscious and nitrous oxide sedation to help them feel comfortable and relaxed throughout the treatment process.
Dr. Shanard graduated from the University of Iowa School of Dentistry in 1988, followed by an intensive, year-long, advanced general dentistry residency. Next, she moved to the Burlington, VT area, where she was part of a group practice for seven years. In 1995, she opened Contemporary Dental Arts, a practice devoted to reconstructive, general, cosmetic, and implant dentistry.
As part of her dedication to providing her patients with the most promising and effective techniques and technologies available, Dr. Shanard frequently participates in continuing education programs. Each year, she logs 50 100 hours in masterlevel courses. This allows her to stay up-to-date in the advancements that continue to develop in the dental industry.
When she is not practicing dentistry, Dr. Shanard is usually spending time with her family and enjoying the outdoors. She lives in Burlington, VT with her son, Jacob, and enjoys Alpine skiing, water skiing, and running. Dr. Shanard also enjoys wine tasting, relaxing with friends, and mostly hanging out with her son either at home or in the mountains of Vermont.

I was at the beginning of a month long road trip and broke part of a molar. I called over 30 dentists in 2 towns and no one could see me. Even though they were busy, this practice made room for me to come in, and within 30 minutes they fixed my tooth so that I could continue my trip. They were so nice, professional and competent that I wish they were my permanent dental practice. I thank them so much for helping me in my hour of need. They deserve a higher rating than 5 stars!

Dr. Shanard and her team have been wonderful to work with! My particular case has required multiple iterations and everyone has maintained such an exceptional level of care, precision, and determination to achieve the outcome we collectively set out for. I've been having my teeth cleaned by dental hygienists for over 50 years. Mary is by far the best hygienist I have ever had clean my teeth. She actually teaches other hygienist how to clean teeth. She is so detailed and thorough. You will definitely leave feeling your teeth are clean and well cared for. Make sure to ask for an appointment with Mary.

I have been Dr. Lauren Shannard's patient for over thirty years. Her hygienist and office staff are professional, courtest, and knowledgeable. They listen to your concerns and will work with you to achieve the best outcome for your dental health. I highly recommend Contemporary Dental Arts, because for me it's a trust issue and honestly they can be quite humorous too.

Dr. Shanard has been a godsend to me as I recently relocated to Vermont and was very concerned about finding a practice commensurate with the one I had left behind. My former dentist's office assured me that Dr. Shanard's accreditation surpassed their own. I would not entrust anyone else with the care of my porcelain veneers. Her entire office staff is lovely!

Dr. Shanard and her team are absolutely amazing! I was a patient for a year before I moved out of state for a couple years. When I moved back, Penny remembered me when I initially called to become a patient again and Wendy remembered all the details about why I moved and the age of my child. Their greatness goes far beyond the obvious effort in knowing their clients. When I was away, I had horrible dental experiences. I'm grateful to be back in the care of this team and Dr. Shenard because they always makes sure I am comfortable and at ease before they move forward. I honestly feel excited as my appointments come up because I just feel so good when I get there. I make jokes to my Fiance that it's like going to the spa... but for my mouth! From beginning to end, its a very enjoyable experience. 5 stars just doesn't do this practice justice - they are down right amazing and should have 20!

I am so pleased with the care I have received from Dr. Lauren Shannard and her staff. After skipping the dentist for 10 years, (yes, I can't believe I did that!) I went in expecting a lecture. But I didn't get one, just a warm welcome and some really excellent care. I feel so much better, my teeth look great, and I'm grateful they are here.

This was a wonderful experience. The staff is extremely professional but very friendly. Everything is done with attention to detail and high standards. The patient educational component is also excellent. Dr. Shanard fit me in due to a dental emergency while I was on vacation. She was exceptional and I would highly recommend her! As a physician, I am very particular so this review is coming from a professional standard.

Best dental experience ever!! Dr Shanard spent 40 minutes just getting to know me and my habits ect. What Doctor does that?!! Went back today for cleaning, Doc checked in with me and hygienist 3 times to be sure I was comfortable. Staff is Amazing!! Julie at the front makes you feel like you have know her forever. Thank you for such a great experience. So grateful.

I originally was referred by my grandparents and came in to fix a filling that had fallen out from a past dentist. Dr Shanard ended up seeing decay in another tooth and she stayed late to fill my other cavity. I felt very cared about as a patient and immediately trusted their opinion. Not to mention, my grandparents have been going to see her for years and have only spoken highly of her practice. I was very impressed with how professional Dr Shanard was and immediately felt at ease being in there. The office had awesome music playing and the staff created a very comfortable atmosphere. I would recommend to everyone looking for honest, friendly and helpful dental care.

I've been going here for years and absolutely love it. The staff is very friendly and treat you like family, they always make sure you are comfortable. I've had cavity fillings and a crown put in now and they made the experience smooth and easy. I moved over an hour away from the office several years ago and still drive over for my appointments because I don't want to change dentists! Highly recommend.
