Dr. David Lai completed his Advanced Education General Dentistry (AEGD) residency in upstate Rochester, New York. During his studies, he focused on surgeries as well as complex dental treatment to ensure that he could care for his patients with correct methods and materials.

Dr. David Ka Lai and Dr. Monica Wu both come from the East Coast and are proud graduates of Virginia Commonwealth Universitys School of Dentistry. They met in dental school and went on to finish their dental residency programs after graduation. Dr. David Lai completed his Advanced Education General Dentistry (AEGD) residency in upstate Rochester, New York. During his studies, he focused on surgeries as well as complex dental treatment to ensure that he could care for his patients with correct methods and materials. He volunteers his time atTzu-Chi Foundation,providing pro-bono dentistry to the underserved, and participates in the annualAmerican Dental Associations' Give Kids A Smilecampaign, to help children in local schools find a dental home.
In their free time, Dr. Wu and Dr. Lai love exploring the Bay Area with their two dogs: Remy and Maylee. These office mascots are a delight to many patients who request them as emotional support dogs.
In more recent years, Dr. Lai has found a passion for motorcycles and loves to engage in bike meets with other team members from the office and technical rides through canyons. You can follow his adventures onInstagram @drmolarcycle!

I want to give my compliments to the entire Compass Dental Arts team. I've been treated by both Dr. Lai and Dr. Wu, and both are very competent dentists. I'm very pleased with the outcome of the treatments. On top of that, the service is excellent, the team makes you feel very comfortable and I want to point out the great flexibility they have shown in case of emergency. Full marks!

The entire team at Compass Dental Arts are top notch! After having been away from the Dentist for quite some time, the team welcomed me with open arms and helped ease all of my concerns and nerves. After leaving my first appointment I have a clear plan in getting back to good dental health and could not be more thrilled. Got referred from a coworker. I just have to say I love this place!!! So professional and accommodating. I was running late and they did their best to keep my appointment to see me. They are super Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They taught me a lot about my teeth which the other dental place has never done. You guys are awesome!!!!!!!

Dr. Lai and Dr. Wu have been my family's dentists for the past 4 years, and they are the best dentists that we have ever had. The doctors here are very friendly, professional, and really care about their patience. The entire staff are fantastic too! They work with us to make sure each patience's needs are catered for. I strongly recommend them, and hope you give them a chance as your dentist.

I was using this dental service from 2018 to 2022. I choose this dentist because the River Oaks location is just beneath my apartment. I appreciate the services provided by Dr. Lai, Dr. Wu and the whole team. The services I used during last 4 years includes: 1. Routine checks and cleaning 2. Deep cleaning 3. 4 wisdom tooth extraction 4. filling?(I can not recall exactly) I never had issue with scheduling and payment. I never feel the price of the service is unreasonable. The front desk lady Sharina always checks your dental insurance and trying to maximize the benefit for me. Dr. Lai is also a cool and friendly guy. I feel comfortable chatting with him. They have a dog in the office, my girlfriend really appreciate the interaction with the dog. One nuance I would point out is that I did my wisdom tooth extraction before pandemic. At that time, Dr. Orban(I am not sure about the name now) will come the one of the office location to perform the procedure. I was very happy about the result. When my girlfriend did the tooth extraction in 2022, she was referred to another dentist office and she felt the procedure is not very smooth. Overall, they are a good team and provide great services with reasonable pricing. FYI, I believe I had regular delta dental insurance. LZ

Dr. Lai and Dr. Wu have been my dentists for the past 3 years, and i can safely say they are the best dentists that i have ever had. They make sure you are comfortable, provide an honest service, and have great customer service. They are very thoughtful, and always remember what we talked about during the last visit. I strongly recommend them, and hope you give them a chance as your dentist.

One of the most professional dentists in the bay area. In addition to taking x-rays / cleaning, the dentist took measurement of my gums, explained all the images and pointed out all the gum issues I had, whereas some other dentists have dismissed those issues previously, and I never had a proper diagnosis. They also did my dental surgery very professionally, with minimal discomfort, would highly recommend.

As always, Dr. Lai and his team were amazing! When you walk in they make you feel comfortable and make sure you are comfortable. The ladies in the front are always on point with sharing the correct information and making sure I get my appointments in. They are also very funny! Today, I went in for my cleaning and got to meet my new hygienist, Sheila. She is amazing! She was very gentle but thorough, very calm, and considerate! Love her bedside manner! Highly recommend!!!

OMG!! Let me tell you. I've always had fear of the dentist. Today I went for my first visit and the assistant made me feel so comfortable and talked with me like if I knew her for a while. The Dr. made me feel so comfortable that I was not as scared as I usually would and trust me I start to get so panicky. I was already dreading on going 24 hours before. But now that I went and the place was so clean and the staff was so friendly and I felt so comfortable I can't wait to go back. I might regret posting cause you might want to gothere and it's gonna be harder to get an appointment lol. Thank you Compass dental for an awesome and comfortable first experience.
