Following dental school, Dr. Sortman became Lieutenant Sortman and served as a Navy dentist with the Marines in Okinawa. While there, he completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program. The AEGD gave him shoulder-to-shoulder experience with specialists in every field of dentistry.

This experience was a springboard to becoming a leader in providing comprehensive dentistry. Since then, he has pursued additional continuing education and is trained in progressive orthodontics, sedation dentistry (via the University of Georgia), and Nobel Biocare dental implants.

On a personal note, Dr. Sortman is married to his college sweetheart, Holly. They have four children: Spencer, Saige, Piper, and Orly. He enjoys spending time with family, pursuing varying interests, and most of all helping others to become the best they can be!

After four days of excruciating pain post extraction, I got a take it or leave it offer for Tylenol 3 KNOWING I cannot take NSAIDs and, as a result, KNOWING I've been maxing out on Tylenol extra strength for four days. This, after acknowledging that it was a surgical, not simple, extraction. The utter lack of compassion as well as the inability to critically consider the impact of MORE Tylenol on my liver and stomach makes me, and should make you too, strongly doubt the medical and ethical competence of these dentists. I won't be back. **Notice all the responses to negative reviews from the practice, in one way or another, fail to take any responsibility for the reviewers' criticism. If Tylenol 3 is the strongest pain medication Community Shores is able to prescribe after a surgical procedure, your clinicians should not be performing surgery. Politely refer to an oral surgeon if you are unequipped to manage a range of pain. I was referred to an oral surgeon, however, Dr Kimmel assured me she could do the procedure and would deal with post-procedure pain appropriately knowing my OTC pain relief options were limited to Tylenol. Either I was misled from the start or both Dr Kimmel and Dr Clements are incapable of critically thinking their way through this scenario. I'm not a dentist and I can rationally deduce the many reasons not to prescribe additional and only Tylenol to someone who, for four days, has been taking nothing but Tylenol. Liver toxicity? Severe gastritis? The assertion that I was told to go to Urgent Care is simply a lie. See the pattern, prospective patients. No ability to critically reason outcomes. Unwilling to accept responsibility for their mistakes. Lying in response to reviews to better their reputation. There are plenty of options for dental care in Muskegon and Ottawa counties. Do yourself a favor and find a different one. You deserve it.

I was having dental issues and was in need of a new Dentist. I called Community Shores since they were in network with my insurance and the receptionist was very friendly and was able to get me in right away. Dr. Clements and his hygienist were very thorough explaining everything that needed to be done. I didn't feel rushed and I truly feel they wanted the best for me.

The dentist and hygenist were extremely patient with my 5 year old. They took the time to explain things and make us feel real comfortable. Did not feel rushed at all.
