The Doctors of Commonwealth Oral & Facial Surgery take great pride in their long-standing tradition of serving the community. Patient care is at the forefront of everything we do from offering state-of-the-art surgical procedures to donating services through mission projects within the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond. We are actively involved in organized dentistry and offer continuing education to the dental community.

It is through our dedication to academic pursuits and commitment to furthering advancements in the field of oral surgery that the standard of excellence set by our founding doctor, Dr. Philip B. Peters, is continued.

1992 The Practice merged with the practice of Dr. Michael Miller and Dr. Thomas A. Eschenroeder, P.C. in 1992, and our office in Glen Allen was added, enabling the doctors to serve patients in the far West End area.

1993 Dr. Gregory M. Zoghby, who had been practicing at his office at 1807 Huguenot Road in Midlothian, joined the Practice and the Southside office on Forest Hill was relocated to the Huguenot Road Location

2003 The Administrative office was relocated from the old Grove Avenue location to the second story of the newly renovated Patterson Avenue office building and the group became known as Commonwealth Oral & Facial Surgery.

Essential Tennis is my favorite tennis instructional app. Im addicted to tennis and always want to improve. Now if I could only keep the body from breaking down! he says with a smile. However, I also love Anytune, which is great for learning guitar parts for any song (at slow speed!)!

He would choose to be a musician. He grew up playing music and jokes about living vicariously through his brother, who has been a professional keyboard player and singer. I never get tired of playing an instrument (guitar, keyboard or drums), learning a new song, or practicing to develop muscle memory so that it just comes naturally. But at this stage in life, its all about finding the time to get to play, he explains, alluding to his busy professional schedule.

Energetic, fun, extremely intelligent; he can always make people smile. Always peppy. Holds a profound knowledge and experience with orthognathic jaw reconstructive surgery. Efficient. Ability to focus on so many things at once. Great doctor, great guy!

Being awarded the Bedside Manner Award numerous years, presented by Our Health Richmond Magazine, well-describes Dr. Zoghbys approach to oral surgery. The magazine says of this honor, medical expertise and compassionate care should always go hand in hand when it comes to treating patients. Dr. Zoghby has been living that philosophy since beginning his oral surgery practice in 1990, whether it be while treating his patients or interacting with his staff.

A former Army Brat, the son of an army JAG (attorney), whose family hails from Alabama, Dr. Zoghby was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and lived in GA, AL, MD, CT, and London, England before he graduated from high school in San Jose, CA. Having lived in 17 different houses before age 18, hes been happy to have put down roots in RVA for 33 years.

Dr. Zoghby and his wife, Lori, have five children between them. Lori is a Senior Business Analyst at VCU Health Systems Pauley Heart Center. Dr. Zoghby and his wife both enjoy traveling for charity mission work as well as education and pleasure. The Zoghbys and their friends enjoy hiking, camping, cycling, and eating out. Together they have hiked much of the Appalachian Trail and are now looking forward to taking on the more rugged terrain of the West Coast.

Other non-dentistry interests include music, art, and the theater. Dr. Zoghby also has a noteworthy rapport with wheels, both as a member of a road bicycling team known as The Spin Doctors and as an instructor for high performance driver education on road race courses for sports cars.

Dr. Zoghby graduated with honors in 1982 from Franklin and Marshall College, in Lancaster, PA, majoring in biology with a minor in art. In 1986 earned his DDS degree, Cum Laude, from the State University of New York in Buffalo before receiving his Maxillofacial Surgery Certification from Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia in 1990. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, certified in 1992. He has been part of the COFS team since 1994. Since joining the practice, Dr. Zoghby has lectured nationally and internationally on a range of oral surgery subjects.

He is an active member of the American Society of TMJ Surgeons. Dr. Zoghby is a member or the Richmond Academy of Medicine, Inc., Porsche Club of America, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

He has donated his skills to the Crossover Dental Clinic, Donated Dental Services, and the Childrens Hospital program, along with the Mission of Mercy (MOM) project, bringing oral surgery care to the underserved in the Appalachian County of Wise, VA since 1999. Annually, Dr. Zoghby also travels to a remote area of the Caribbean to offer his professional services through the Jamaica Mission Trip since 1993, which is sponsored by VCU/MCV School of Dentistry. He has been an Associate Clinical instructor at the VCU/MCV Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery since 1986.

In describing his winning patient/doctor relationship to Our Health Richmond Magazine he explains, Bedside manner starts with talking with the patient, not to the patient. I like to sit face to face, listen more than I speak. My role as a doctor is to educate, not to sell. Ultimately, I want the patient to be comfortable with their decision. My mantra, Dont hurry; things rarely turn out better when you rush. Dr. Zoghby is also perennially honored as one of the areas top oral Surgeons by both Richmond Magazine and Virginia Living Magazine. He is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society and a Fellow in the Virginia Dental Association.

Helpful, knowledgeable, patient, always upbeat, genuine, insightful. He is a great teacher. Respects his staff. We love his laugh, his ties, and his socks! Doesnt let anything interfere with giving his patients his time and full attention.

Ive been a die-hard Wake (Forest) fan for over 40 years and have been going to VCU basketball games since I was an Oral Surgery resident 25 years ago. Ive now added Virginia Tech, JMU and Arkansas to my list! And being from NY, I cheer loudly for the NY Giants!

This used to be any of the books I read to my girls when they were kids, or listening with them to a Harry Potter cd on long car trips. Ive got a list going of books I want to tackle, and Im taking suggestions.

Laid back, inquisitive, insightful, genuine, sincere, funny, respectful. Good listener, appreciative of staff, he is good at taking a joke as well as giving one! Always gives all options and presents all possible scenarios during his patient consults, extremely honest, not afraid to admit if he is wrong. Tidy and neat.

By far the kindest, most patient and informative oral surgeon practice in our area. Got me an appointment IMMEDIATELY after a terrible experience at a different oral surgeon's office that I had to walk out of - explained things much more clearly and listened to my concerns as well. The entire staff are rockstars.

I came here to get my wisdom teeth removed, and would highly recommend this place to anyone. Dr. Lauren did a fantastic job, every member of staff was so friendly, and the atmosphere of the office was very relaxed. A very fast process, too. Thank you guys so much!

This is a review of the practice in general and the location i had my surgery at the Westerre office in Henrico, VA (in the Short Pump area) I cannot sing enough praises about this practice. I had messed up teeth, neglect and a car accident and acid reflux did a job on them. When I first made the appointment the people behind the scenes were very nice and accommodating when I had to make a change or two. From the receptionists to the billing department, they worked hard to settle my bill and work with my insurance company (Humana). They answered any question I had with billing several times. My dentist was Dr Lauren Kaplan and she and her assistants were so very nice. Having a long surgery to have all my teeth removed, including the roots was not as I expected. It was BETTER than I thought it would be. I didn't feel a thing after this surgery and the work was done to perfection! They are great and I can't recommend them enough!!

My experience with Dr. Miller was tremendous! I was very nervous about an oral surgery I needed to repair a long term infection and he was incredibly kind and took extra time to ease my nerves and explain the procedure to me beforehand. The surgery was a great success and I am so grateful for the care I received. Dr. Miller also took the time to check on me a few days after surgery and answer questions about recovery. I strongly recommend!!!

Dr. Boxx and his team were such a joy, even when pulling out my wisdom teeth! They kept me calm before the surgery, and made sure to take care of me afterwards. Not to mention, everyone I had spoken to about wisdom tooth removal said it was the worst pain and it took forever to heal, they couldn't eat, etc. I felt fine within the first week and I know I owe that to no one other than Dr. Boxx and his staff!

Dr. Miller and his entire staff are fabulous!! From the first phone call, when they got me scheduled for an appointment quickly, to the last visit after the needed procedure and follow-ups, they treated me as if I mattered to them greatly. Dr. Miller's demeanor and level of expertise and compassion is the best "bedside manner" you could ask for. I interacted with two of the other doctors in the practice and the treatment and care was exemplary. I am so glad that I went to Commonwealth Oral and Facial Surgery and Dr. Miller for my oral needs. Thank you Dr. Miller and the whole staff!!!

Dr box and the staff at the Westerre location went above and beyond to be nice and polite and make you feel welcomed. And I know welcome and dentist office don't go hand in hand, but at this location it does. They squeezed me in to get this tooth extracted and I have to say the doctor was so good I didn't even know he had pulled it when he pulled it, for that I am grateful. Nelly and the other ladies at the front desk we're just as sweet and polite, the nurses were all very caring and understanding. I would gladly and highly recommend these doctors at this location to anyone and everyone. You're in good hands here.

I have had the best experiences at any of the offices. I see Dr. Boxx and he is an amazing and kind hearted Dr. and his staff have always been very polite and caring. Dr Boxx operated on my jaw and even though I was nervous I'm so glad I went through with it bc I know have my life back and I'm no longer in pain!! I highly recommend Dr. Boxx !!!!

Well organized, strong commitment to achieving your needs in a very comfortable and relaxing setting. Dr Miller made an extraction look and feel like taking a donut off a shelf at the grocery store, very little pain and quick recovery. If you need extractions, implant prep work, this is the place to go in Richmond.

Dr. Boxx is highly skilled and, in many ways almost as important, is kind, positive, cheerful and warm, creating an atmosphere of ease and trust in what could be a tense situation. I also appreciate the well-organized, thoughtful treatment from all the staff. And I felt very cared for with Dr. Boxx's follow up call later on the day of the extraction to check on me. Suggestions: 1. Send home a copy of the aftercare handout on both the evaluation and the surgery dates. That would allow patients to be far better prepared. Even with a simple extraction, my attention was challenged. 2. Send home the ice-pack at the evaluation appointment. Fortunately I had others but none that size which was ideal. It was hours after the extraction before the ice-pack was usable.

I made an appointment for a consultation for my son, and I completed all the paperwork online. I received numerous phone calls, texts, and emails reminding me of my appointment (imagine the car warranty people harassing you, it was like that). I called the day of my appointment to confirm they had all my paperwork, and I arrived ten minutes BEFORE my appointment. Sat in the car (because of Covid), then 30 minutes after my appointment they called to tell me the doctor was running 30 minutes late. Meaning he would now be an hour late, I waited a little longer in my car. Got another phone call he would actually be 45 minutes late, and it was best we reschedule. I understand they are surgeons and emergencies happen, but I was not happy with how the office staff handled it. PLEASE don't act like I inconvenienced you. I would only recommend this office to people have all the time in the world to wait in their car. I do not have a lot of extra time, so made the choice to go to another surgeon.
