The Doctors of Commonwealth Oral & Facial Surgery take great pride in their long-standing tradition of serving the community. Patient care is at the forefront of everything we do from offering state-of-the-art surgical procedures to donating services through mission projects within the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond. We are actively involved in organized dentistry and offer continuing education to the dental community.

It is through our dedication to academic pursuits and commitment to furthering advancements in the field of oral surgery that the standard of excellence set by our founding doctor, Dr. Philip B. Peters, is continued.

1992 The Practice merged with the practice of Dr. Michael Miller and Dr. Thomas A. Eschenroeder, P.C. in 1992, and our office in Glen Allen was added, enabling the doctors to serve patients in the far West End area.

1993 Dr. Gregory M. Zoghby, who had been practicing at his office at 1807 Huguenot Road in Midlothian, joined the Practice and the Southside office on Forest Hill was relocated to the Huguenot Road Location

2003 The Administrative office was relocated from the old Grove Avenue location to the second story of the newly renovated Patterson Avenue office building and the group became known as Commonwealth Oral & Facial Surgery.

Essential Tennis is my favorite tennis instructional app. Im addicted to tennis and always want to improve. Now if I could only keep the body from breaking down! he says with a smile. However, I also love Anytune, which is great for learning guitar parts for any song (at slow speed!)!

He would choose to be a musician. He grew up playing music and jokes about living vicariously through his brother, who has been a professional keyboard player and singer. I never get tired of playing an instrument (guitar, keyboard or drums), learning a new song, or practicing to develop muscle memory so that it just comes naturally. But at this stage in life, its all about finding the time to get to play, he explains, alluding to his busy professional schedule.

Energetic, fun, extremely intelligent; he can always make people smile. Always peppy. Holds a profound knowledge and experience with orthognathic jaw reconstructive surgery. Efficient. Ability to focus on so many things at once. Great doctor, great guy!

Being awarded the Bedside Manner Award numerous years, presented by Our Health Richmond Magazine, well-describes Dr. Zoghbys approach to oral surgery. The magazine says of this honor, medical expertise and compassionate care should always go hand in hand when it comes to treating patients. Dr. Zoghby has been living that philosophy since beginning his oral surgery practice in 1990, whether it be while treating his patients or interacting with his staff.

A former Army Brat, the son of an army JAG (attorney), whose family hails from Alabama, Dr. Zoghby was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and lived in GA, AL, MD, CT, and London, England before he graduated from high school in San Jose, CA. Having lived in 17 different houses before age 18, hes been happy to have put down roots in RVA for 33 years.

Dr. Zoghby and his wife, Lori, have five children between them. Lori is a Senior Business Analyst at VCU Health Systems Pauley Heart Center. Dr. Zoghby and his wife both enjoy traveling for charity mission work as well as education and pleasure. The Zoghbys and their friends enjoy hiking, camping, cycling, and eating out. Together they have hiked much of the Appalachian Trail and are now looking forward to taking on the more rugged terrain of the West Coast.

Other non-dentistry interests include music, art, and the theater. Dr. Zoghby also has a noteworthy rapport with wheels, both as a member of a road bicycling team known as The Spin Doctors and as an instructor for high performance driver education on road race courses for sports cars.

Dr. Zoghby graduated with honors in 1982 from Franklin and Marshall College, in Lancaster, PA, majoring in biology with a minor in art. In 1986 earned his DDS degree, Cum Laude, from the State University of New York in Buffalo before receiving his Maxillofacial Surgery Certification from Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia in 1990. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, certified in 1992. He has been part of the COFS team since 1994. Since joining the practice, Dr. Zoghby has lectured nationally and internationally on a range of oral surgery subjects.

He is an active member of the American Society of TMJ Surgeons. Dr. Zoghby is a member or the Richmond Academy of Medicine, Inc., Porsche Club of America, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

He has donated his skills to the Crossover Dental Clinic, Donated Dental Services, and the Childrens Hospital program, along with the Mission of Mercy (MOM) project, bringing oral surgery care to the underserved in the Appalachian County of Wise, VA since 1999. Annually, Dr. Zoghby also travels to a remote area of the Caribbean to offer his professional services through the Jamaica Mission Trip since 1993, which is sponsored by VCU/MCV School of Dentistry. He has been an Associate Clinical instructor at the VCU/MCV Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery since 1986.

In describing his winning patient/doctor relationship to Our Health Richmond Magazine he explains, Bedside manner starts with talking with the patient, not to the patient. I like to sit face to face, listen more than I speak. My role as a doctor is to educate, not to sell. Ultimately, I want the patient to be comfortable with their decision. My mantra, Dont hurry; things rarely turn out better when you rush. Dr. Zoghby is also perennially honored as one of the areas top oral Surgeons by both Richmond Magazine and Virginia Living Magazine. He is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society and a Fellow in the Virginia Dental Association.

Helpful, knowledgeable, patient, always upbeat, genuine, insightful. He is a great teacher. Respects his staff. We love his laugh, his ties, and his socks! Doesnt let anything interfere with giving his patients his time and full attention.

Ive been a die-hard Wake (Forest) fan for over 40 years and have been going to VCU basketball games since I was an Oral Surgery resident 25 years ago. Ive now added Virginia Tech, JMU and Arkansas to my list! And being from NY, I cheer loudly for the NY Giants!

This used to be any of the books I read to my girls when they were kids, or listening with them to a Harry Potter cd on long car trips. Ive got a list going of books I want to tackle, and Im taking suggestions.

Laid back, inquisitive, insightful, genuine, sincere, funny, respectful. Good listener, appreciative of staff, he is good at taking a joke as well as giving one! Always gives all options and presents all possible scenarios during his patient consults, extremely honest, not afraid to admit if he is wrong. Tidy and neat.

I have been with this practice since I was 15 and Dr Malbon removed my wisdom teeth. I've gone through many surgeons over the years but stayed with the practice because of the kindness and efficiency of the entire staff from the front desk to the surgeon follow up the night of the surgery.I am currently a patient of Dr Boxx and in typical fashion, my body has not been a textbook case. I appreciate the support, the kindness and the inclusion of myself in the plan. So many places tell patients what is going to happen. Dr Boxx realized that I am a nurse with many years of experience and that I know my body the best. This course of surgeries were complicated but were handled as a partnership and for that I'm grateful. Donna Duerson

On may 2 2022 I had surgery on my mouth to remove 11 tooth. I was so nervous but the nurse and doctor Sarraf Ammar who pro-form the surgery, made me feel relaxed. The surgery lasted about 40 minutes. I had expected to be in a lot of pain after the surgery but when I got home to my surprise I felt comfortable and had no pain it is about a month now and my gums are healing and I feel so much better than I thought.i had a wonderful experience with Commonwealth oral surgery I would recommend them if I could give them a 10 I would I usually don't write reviews but if I could help someone else by letting them know that there are still good dentist out there. Thank you doctor Sarraf Ammar.

I had out-patient surgery by Dr. Mike Miller at St. Mary's Hospital on April 11, to remove large tori from the bottom of my mouth. I was quite nervous about the procedure, the hospital, my age, the small size of my mouth, the large boney tori- you name it and I worried about it. Dr. Miller and his entire team were so wonderful, supportive and caring from the day I scheduled the surgery. The nurses and anesthesia team at the hospital were over-the-top kind and gentle while preparing me for the surgery and Dr. Mike came by to reassure me one last time. Just could not have been a more pleasant experience, considering what I was having done. I really haven't had any pain since the operation- Just soreness under my chin. What a great team you all are and thank you so much for taking such good care of me.

I highly recommend Commonwealth Oral and Facial for any oral surgery needs. They are very professional and friendly. My surgeon, Dr Charles Boxx, spent time to explain and show via x-rays exactly what he would do. He explained everything to my wife and gave simple instructions for my care at home. Then, later the day of my surgery, he personally called to check on me. A wonderful caring individual who has my highest recommendation.

Dr. Boxx is great, but the staff at reception leave a lot to be desired. Their first mistake was incorrectly recording a follow-up appointment date for me-- I showed up on the date and time as per the appointment card I had been given, only to be told that *I'd* gotten the day wrong and to come back-- no apology, no courtesy. Apparently the wrong date had been recorded on the appointment card I was given. The second mistake was being informed that a particular scan would cost $100 at the next follow-up appointment. Upon my arrival, I was told that it would in fact cost $200, not $100. I had even called that morning to confirm the cost, and was again told $100... Again, no apology for their error, no courtesy. Seriously, it's pretry simple. Get your sh*t together, and when you screw up, apologize for the inconvenience you've caused your clientele. UPDATE: office admin called immediately to rectify situation and apologize for subpar service. Changing review to 5 stars now. I am a happier camper!

I had experienced days of maddening pain and Commonwealth worked me in early so the offending tooth could be removed. The staff was nice, the doctor was great and a tooth extraction was as uneventful as such a procedure can be. I am hugely grateful.

This office has some of the best staff I have ever encountered. Dr. Eschenroeder is kind, funny, and professional. The staff make you feel comfortable and are very efficient. They do a great job at explaining the procedures and are upfront about the costs. I got my wisdom teeth removed, a bone graft, a sinus lift, and dental implants, and I could not have asked for a better experience. I highly recommend this office!

So very grateful to Commonwealth Oral! Because I was suffering with a toothache my dentist recommended an oral surgery team. When I called the recommended team they could not see me for three weeks. When I called Commonwealth they saw me the next day! I was so relived because I was going on vacation the following week. Thanks to Dr. Ferguson who pulled my tooth, I was able to enjoy my vacation.

The entire process was top-notch. Received the paperwork in advance and was able to complete everything before we arrived. Communication was great throughout. Dr. Ferguson and the nurses explained everything thoroughly to my daughter and to me. Dr. Ferguson called the day after to check-up on my daughter. I would highly recommend.

The Doctor, nurses and staff were very pleasant and accommodating. I really felt special receiving a follow-up/check-in call from Dr. Sarraf. He wanted to make certain my son was doing well, and not having any issues. All seems to be going well for my son, and I am grateful for a seamless, professional and personable experience.

Dr Fergusson needs to have his medical license revoked and take his interests into his political aspects with traveling and likes. I contacted him on Sunday @ 5:00 PM on July 11th, 2021. I have mutiple broken teeth causing excruciating pain through to my ears, unable to sleep for 2 days, and all this so called Dr told me to do was take Motrin for Excessive pain, and call the office, at 8:00am to get an appointment. My appointment was never made by Debbie the receptionist, and Dr Boxx who I normally see in the West End did not have an Appointment until August. I need help now! My suggestion is when this is a severe case that it not be ignored as I was. Are you doctors? do you not have cars to go to your office for emergencies? Do you put your interest first instead of an urgent medical issues???Just what kind of people are you????I bet if it were you having the problems I have, You would expect help right away and not some damn Motrin for relief!!!!!Be Professional!!
