Despite being uncomfortable, dry mouth alone is not a severe issue as long as it is not persistent. If it is, it can lead to various long-term health issues, ranging from irritating to dangerous. Someone who suffers from chronic dry mouth will likely experience mouth sores, splits at the corners of the mouth, cracked lips, increased plaque buildup & a greater risk of tooth decay & gum disease. You might even start to have nutrition issues, because the lack of saliva makes it more difficult to break down food when you eat.
Even if your dry mouth does not seem to be persistent, it is important to stay on top of treating it. The good news is that treatment is simple for most cases of dry mouth. First, make sure you stay hydrated by sipping on water throughout the day. For your dental & overall health, you should drink lots of water anyway! Dehydration, which dry mouth can be a sign of, is a serious health risk.
Other simple things you can do to treat dry mouth include chewing sugarless gum & limiting the salt, sugar & caffeinated drinks in your diet. Some people might recommend sucking on an ice cube or sugarless hard candy, but this can actually damage your teeth, so dont do it! You can also purchase nonprescription saliva substitutes over the counter to reduce your current issues.
If you use tobacco or drink alcohol, cut back on those or find a way to quit. Even if you dont think smoking or drinking is the root cause, those activities can irritate a dry mouth, so you should limit or stop them entirely. Plus, theyre just bad for you!
The best treatment for dry mouth always depends on the specific cause, so if home remedies or over-the-counter solutions dont prevent your dry mouth, it can indicate a more serious underlying health issue. In serious cases it is best to visit a physician or dentist who can work with you to figure out the root cause of your dry mouth & help you treat it.

Dr. Anita Dallo is a caring & gentle dental professional who has been involved with dentistry since age 16, when she started off sterilizing instruments. She worked in many positions in the dental office, including as a practice manager, committing herself to the dental profession even before becoming a dentist. She earned her dental degree at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry & now enjoys providing high quality, personalized dental care to her community.
Dr. Dallo is a frequent volunteer at events & health fairs at her church. She is also a committee member for the Colon Cancer Alliance to increase funds & awareness for colon cancer in memory of her late mother. Outside the dental office, she enjoys doing arts & crafts with her kids, going to the park & relaxing at the beach. For a bit of excitement, she loves attending concerts & cheering on the Red Wings.
Dr. Mike Kostakos attended the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry & has been practicing dentistry in the metro-Detroit area for nearly 30 years. Throughout that time he has kept up with all the latest advances in dentistry so he can confidently provide the best, most modern dentistry to his patients. He has a personal interest in passing on his extensive dental knowledge by mentoring other dentists.
Out of the office, he loves traveling, especially going to Greece to visit family & spending weekends up in Northern Michigan. Dr. Kostakos & his wife enjoy spending time with their four kids & eating Greek cuisine.

Over the weekend I visited the ER because of a really bad toothache, and I called Commerce Dental Group to see about an appointment. Sandy was very helpful and wanted me to call back after the visit since I was in alot of pain. she said she could get me in on Tuesday. I am so glad I did!! On Monday morning I called her back to confirm Tuesday's appointment and she said that I could be seen that afternoon. I was excited and a little worried because I've never been to this office before, I wasn't recommended by anyone either. I have been to three different dentist offices this year for consultations and I wasn't impressed with the dentist or the staff.Today was a sign of relief,Sandy and the staff were amazing!! They made me feel comfortable like I have been going there for years. Then I meet Dr. Dallo and she was amazing too!! She didn't talk at me, she talked to me and explained her concerns and what she could do. The way everyone interacted with each other showed me that they not only cared about me as a patient but they care about each other like a family. This was the best visit at a Dentists office I have ever had. And yes that tooth was pulled out with no problems!! Thank you Dr. Dallo! Thank you Sandy!

Dr. Dallo is awesome! She does great work and is very gentle and caring. I actually enjoy going to see her, which I've never said about any other dentist before. The office is always clean and the staff is very friendly. I highly recommend you try this office!

In a word? Phenomenal. I was in pain and they took me right in without an appointment and it was after hours. Alex and Dr. Veronica Jabero were the epitome of excellent customer service and patient care. Would highly recommend.

Recently made the switch from one dentist office over to Commerce Dental Group because of referrals and recommendations from friends and family. My appointment was with Dr. Dallo and safe to say she is phenomenal at what she does and with training her staff to top tier professionalism. I'm usually terrified of attending the dentist, but Dr. Dallo assured me I had nothing to be concerned about and she was right. Dr. Dallo consistently checked with me during my appointment to see if I was feeling any pain or uncomfortableness within my check up to make sure I was comfortable. Having a dentist like Dr. Dallo and her team is a prime necessity in your life to maintain healthy teeth and hygiene. Undoubtedly the best dental experience I've ever had! Professional, courteous and friendly staff made me feel like family. Dr. Dallo is very comforting and informative. I'm an Invisalign patient and although the treatment hasn't been completed, I'm already happy with my results. I live an hour away and the drive is most definitely worth it. The whole team here is outstanding. I highly recommend Commerce Dental Group

A tooth I had a root canal on many years ago became infected on Mothers day. I spent the entire day in agony. My regular dentist is not open on Mondays and I didn't know if I was going to be able to bare the pain until he was available. I called Commerce Dental Group first thing Monday morning and they got me right in. They were able to abstract the tooth and relieve my pain. The staff and doctor are amazing! The doctor was very gentle and cared a great deal about my situation. I have found a new dentist for my family

Dr. Dallo and her staff are incredible! My Husband didn't have a dentist and was having tremendous tooth pain. I called the office they accepted him as an emergency patient even though he was new and got him in same day! Literally within an hour of me calling they were willing to squeeze him in and help him! Next day Dr. Dallo even called personally to check in on him! We are so very greatful to have found her and will be bringing our whole family to her going forward! Thank you Dr. Dallo and your team for your help and kindness!

The doctor and staff here are incredible! They are very accommodating with scheduling needs and everyone is kind and pleasant from the receptionist to the hygienist. I was nervous for my first filling, but I had a great experience and looking forward to my next appointment. My favorite part was not feeling over-sold on anything, but wisely advised on my dental needs.

Five stars for Dr. Dallo and Commerce Dental Group! Every time I visit, the staff is extremely helpful and pleasant. I really appreciate how prompt Dr. Dallo is; the last couple of times I've gone, I've waited no more than three minutes in the waiting room before being called back. This is important to me as I have two small kids and it helps manage my calendar easier. While Dr. Dallo is working on me, she communicates clearly and explains everything she's doing, so it puts me at ease while I'm sitting in her chair. She's also very gentle, and the last couple of times I've had fillings, I've left without feeling any pain or soreness during or after. Dr. Dallo was exceptional!

Dr. Dallo and staff are beyond 5 stars ! I had a broken tooth and they got me in next day ! She was able to extract the tooth at my first appointment. She and her assistant Jen worked well together and explained every detail as to what was going on and what was going to happen. The front desk was very informative in regards to insurance and billing. I highly recommend this facility !!!
