After graduating top in his High School class as Valedictorian, he was selected as one of the few in the nation to attend the Accelerated Dental Advanced Placement Tract at USC. He then became the youngest doctor in his class to earn the Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in fact one of the youngest in USC Dental School history. Amongst his many accomplishments, Dr. Hsu has spent a year in 1999 as a volunteer dentist serving families throughout the impoverished areas of California. Since 2000, he has been in private practice, but continues to volunteer his dental services tofree dental clinics and charitable organizationsthroughout each year. In 2002, Dr. Hsu took under his wing a private dental office in Alta Loma that has been serving the Rancho Cucamonga area since 1993. Dr. Hsu has quickly made a name for himself in the neighborhood as the gentle dentist. He became well known by many of his patients for providing nearly pain-free family dentistry

Immediately, Dr. Hsus popularity as the gentle dentist grew exponentially and he soon discovered that his small dental office could no longer accommodate the rapid growth of his patient base. In 2012, construction of his new state-of-the-art dental office begun, with a focus on howgentle dentistry could be provided in a comfortable environment. Construction was completed in 2013, enabling Dr. Hsu to move into the most advanced family dental center in the Inland Empire. In his effort to improve care for patients with complex medical problems and sleep disorders, Dr. Hsu continued to expand his knowledge throughout his career, including completing his Master of Science in Orofacial Pain, Oral Medicine and Sleep Disorders at the USC School of Dentistry allowing him to become a specialist in Orofacial pain in both the medical and dental field. Outside of his compassionate care for his patients, Dr. Brien Hsu enjoys numerous artistic hobbies and was the recipient of many art awards for his portrait and landscape paintings in both water color and acrylics. In addition he has practiced many forms of martial arts and was an instructor for Karate at USC. Many of these skills have influenced his precision and artistic capabilities as a proficient dental surgeon.

Who said that quality dentistry could not be achieved with minimal pain or discomfort while in the dental chair? Here in the heart of Alta Loma, there lies a practice, resided by a Dr. Brien Hsu, who has had the honor of being labeled the gentle dentist by his patients in this flourishing community. In this special interview, we ask Dr. Hsu some of our questions.

Surveys show that people in general have this fear of the dentist because of the pain associated with treatment. Whether it be the initial injection, the sound of the drill, or the pain while having treatment done. How is it that you are able to achieve this level of practically painless dentistry? Dr. Hsu: I have a unique technique of giving a practically painless injection and when I do my dentistry I am very gentle and light handed. We also only use state of the art hand-pieces in my practice; these extraordinary drills do not make that loud whine that makes most people cringe even if they are in the waiting room. In addition, we offer our patients headphones and a movie of their choice to watch in the dental chair. My patients are very comfortable when they are in the treatment room. If they should experience even the slightest discomfort, I would stop immediately when they make a sudden movement, its usually because of their reaction from a scene in a movie. In fact many of my patients are surprised when Im finished and actually disappointed they werent able to finish the movie that they were enjoying.

Interestingpatients are actually awake when you do your practically painless procedures? You dont sedate or put them to sleep. Dr. Hsu: Well, patients would have a very high out of pocket expense if they desired to be sedated and I like to make my services available to all families regardless of their income level. However we do offer nitrous oxide, a gas that relaxes patients who are very nervous about having dental treatment.

Very impressive Dr. Hsu, it wouldnt be surprising if your patients were willing to travel from far away t have their dental work done by you. Dr. Hsu: Actually, I have had patients who traveled from San Francisco, Arizona, Nevada, and even Florida to have their dentistry done by me. In fact, I recently opened my private practice here in Alta Loma. And some of my former patients from my past employment in various dental offices over a span of 50 miles away have searched out for me.

Dental Hygiene Specialist Dr. Amandeep Singh earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology at University of California, Irvine. He then continued his education at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine. His accomplishments include Assistant Instructor to first year dental students on periodontal treatment, Deans Honor Roll, and Secretary and Treasurer of the Medical Health Science Society. Dr. Singh has been specializing in performing dental hygiene procedures since 2006. He is known by many of his patients for providing professional, yet gentle periodontal dental procedures.

Dr. Robert Sharobiem completed his Doctorate in Dental Surgery at UCLA in 2009, graduating in the top five percent of his class. From there, he earned a General Dental Practice Residency Certificate at St. Barnabas Hospital, NY, where he was named Resident of the Year in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Certificate at Mount Sinai Hospital, NY, receiving advanced training in facial trauma, oral surgery and reconstruction. His accomplishments include board certification by the American Board of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Director of the UCLA/USC Mobile Dental Clinic and being one of the founders of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Study Club at UCLA. For Dr. Sharobiem, giving back to the community is extremely important. Thats why hes participated in dental mission trips to help impoverished people in Mexico, Haiti, and Guatemala. This level of generosity is why the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons honored Dr. Sharobiem with the Humanitarian Award for Residents in 2013.

Dr. Neema Mehrkhodavandi is an Endodontist (Root Canal Specialist) who earned his Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS), Endodontics at Tufts University, School of Dental Medicine and his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) University of the Pacific, School of Dentistry. His achievements include: Board certification by the American Board of Endodontics, Assistant Instructor for Tufts University, School of Dental Medicine, Department of Endodontics Endodontics, Study Club Vice President, Co-founder of the Humanitarian Dentistry Organization and Pacific Founders Scholar. Having grown up in California, Dr. Nemma is happy to back from the East Coast and enjoys spending time with his family and friends.

Dr. Angela Huang is a general dentist who has a passion for cosmetic and restorative dentistry. She earned her BS in Biological Science at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). In 2008 she graduated from the Temple University School of Dentistry, earning her Doctorate in Dental Medicine. As a dentist, she spent time with the Student Outreach Program at Temple University School of Dentistry, where she performed dental work on underprivileged patients at various designated dental group facilities. Dr. Angela has earned certification in Tissue Management for Implants and Advanced Dental Implant & Reconstructive Surgery Training Program. During her free time she enjoys baking, running, and spending time with her family.
