After graduating from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, Dr. Pournaras pursued his dental studies at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. Even as a practicing cosmetic dentist, he takes an active role in continuing education, helping him stay abreast of the latest advances in the dental field.

Dr. Pournaras is privileged to work with master ceramist Wayne Payne, located in Southern California. Dr. Pournaras is among an elite group of cosmetic dentists who have Accredited Membership status by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). Not all AACD members receive accreditation. Dr Nick is also an honorary member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon society, a fellow in the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Academy of Comprehensive Esthetics, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the South Carolina Dental Association. He is also involved in the Greater Columbia Dental Association and other local study clubs and dental organizations.
Doctor Sejal is a South Carolina native, growing up in Spartanburg, SC where her passion for dentistry and serving patients began with shadowing her childhood dentist and volunteering at dental clinics in town. She then graduated from Wofford College in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. At Wofford, Sejal pursued opportunities to travel and develop an ongoing interest in cultures, people, and language. She also nurtured her passion for dentistry and serving the community through the pre-dental society and various leadership roles in service organizations.
In 2017, Sejal went on to graduate from the College of Dental Medicine at MUSC in Charleston, SC. She continued to serve the community as the president of her dental service fraternity and member of the SCDA and ADA. Later she moved to SW Florida with Husband, Grayson, where she practiced until they felt the pull to move back to their home state to be closer to family, friends, and the tight-knit SC dental community.
Dr. Sejal enjoys traveling with her husband, baking, art, and taking continuing education courses to stay up to date with the quickly advancing and changing dental field. She is able to offer a wide array of services to the Columbia Smiles team including Basic Dentistry, Invisalign, restoring implants, and a wide knowledge of denture options. I have been a patient for the last five years. Everyone makes me feel at home in the office. Staff treats you like family. Pam introduced me to laser whitening last week. I have sensitive teeth and this procedure was perfect for me. No problems and Great results!

So impressed with this Dentist. The staff is so friendly and genuinely want to hear about how you are doing. They are all unbelieveably easy to talk to and prioritize your comfort. This is a perfect example of a dentist office environment that makes you want to go see them more than every 6 months! Kim is so great at holding conversation while being super careful with your cleaning. I have sensitive teeth and when I warned her she immediately applied this special toothpaste beforehand so I wouldn't feel a thing during the cleaning! Amazing! Dr. Nick is an absolute genius. I have a tooth that is misaligned due to my bite, and he told me exactly what was wrong, why this is happening, when it needs to be fixed, and how he is going to do it. I know I am in great hands at Columbia Smiles!

Between living in Sumter, and now Columbia, I feel like I have been in search for the perfect dentist my entire adult life... I wondered if I would ever find a dentists who made me feel comfortable, less self-conscious, and who REALLY cared about my happiness and what we needed to do to get there. I rarely write reviews.. actually, this may be my first one ever.. but when I left his office today crying at only ONE step of my process to a happier, healthier smile, (a plan that Dr. Nic sat down and helped me develop), I wanted to do something so that everyone could feel this happy after leaving the dentist. If you are looking for a dentist who truly cares about you and your smile, look no further. It is only an added bonus that his admin staff, hygienist, and assistants are just as friendly and supportive as Dr. Nicholoas Pournaras! I feel like I hit the lottery of dental teams!

I've been a client for about 6 - 7 years now and every visit is always pleasant and professional. My hygienist, Kim, is very thorough but careful during the cleaning process. At the end of each visit, she gives tips about improving and maintaining good dental health, always upbeat and encouraging but practical advice. Dr. Nick is also very open and friendly when checking on you during your follow-up. I've only had one procedure performed by Dr. Nick himself that I can evaluate but everything went very well. The front staff is on top of things as well and occasionally has given me a call to see if I want an earlier appointment that opened up. One other thing... I've been scheduling back-to-back appointments for my mother and myself here the last few years, and found that on our most recent visit Dr. Nick had increased staff which resulted in us having our treatments simultaneously saving everyone time. While not strictly necessary, I thought it was nice to see they are working to make things easier on their clients whenever they can. I'm sorry I can't recall the name of the new hygienist to give credit here, but she also did great work and was very considerate throughout the process. Just a great place and great people all around.

I have avoided going to the dentist because of my extreme dentist phobia... the people at Columbia Smiles are so awesome, I wasn't nervous or scared at all! Dr. Nick, Sandra and Kim explained everything as they were doing it and made sure I was as comfortable as possible. Valerie is great at explaining plans and treatment options in a way that was easy for me to decide what I wanted to do. They ROCK!

Dr. Nick and his team are fabulous! He has been taking care of my dental care for about 13 years now. Let me tell you how much I love this guy. He's outside of my insurance network and I am still willing to stay with them! The office is always clean, inviting, and relaxing. Just make an appointment and you'll see! Dr. Nick has invested much into what he has to offer his patients. It's a one stop shop for dental and ortho! They did my braces and it was fast!!! Also, if you need them to fix something, they don't make a fuss about it! Such sweet people like Maggie and Dr. Nick's wife, Kelly at the Columbia office. I can't remember the names of the other wonderful hygienists, but everyone is very friendly in both offices. I would totally fly to SC for dental care after moving out of state! Columbia Smiles is wonderful!
