Colgan Pediatric Dentistry - Pediatric dentist in Paducah, KY

After graduating from Saint Mary High School, I attended Murray State University and majored in biology and chemistry. From there, I attended the University of Louisville School of Dentistry where I received my DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine) degree in 2012. I was then accepted into the NYU/Lutheran Pediatric Dental Residency program, the Hawaii site, where I received my certificate in Pediatric Dentistry in 2015.

My goal at Colgan Pediatric Dentistry is to make coming to the dentist the most positive experience for both the child and the parent. Taking your child to the dentist for the first time or for their first filling is already a stressful situation and it is my goal to make it as positive of an experience as it can be. I strive to stay current on the most recent techniques and practices of modern day pediatric dentistry recommended by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

I am a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, and the Purchase Dental Society. I stay active in the community as a member of the Paducah Chamber of Commerce and my local church.

After earning my Bachelor's Degree at UK, I attended Dental School at The University of Louisville. At Colgan Pediatric Dentistry, we truly want to create an environment for our patients and their families that make their visits to the dentist something to look forward to. We hope to start our patients off on the right foot when it comes to their dental health. A positive experience at the dentist as a child can make lifelong dental care much more enjoyable, even into adulthood.

We are so thankful to Colgan Pediatrics for how much they go above and beyond for our family! My son has Autism and going to the dentist is a major sensory overload for him. From exams in the clinic, exams under anesthesia, surgery, to working to help us solve insurance questions and everything in between, we are grateful for each of you!!

We had to wait 6 months to get in. After we arrive, I filled put the entire packet of paperwork and one of the receptionists asked me if I would be self pay. It turns out they don't accept my insurance. United Healthcare Medicaid. Nobody bothered to mention this when I made my appointment. I was told that they accept Medicaid. She told me they try to tell people what they accept and don't, but sometimes, "It slips through the cracks. " So for 6 months my son's teeth got worse and worse for absolutely no reason. I'm very disappointed. We went out of town to seek care.

Best little kids dentistry around here. I drive about an hour to get to the office but its a drive well worth my efforts. The staff and drs are SO VERY GOOD with my children. They help in any and all ways possible. This group of people most definitely go well above and beyond others I have taken my children to over the past 15yrs. I have 6 kiddoes aged 19yr, 17, 15, 11, 5, & 4yr olds. Colgan is my choice and we will continue seeing him as long as we are living anywhere within an hour drive or even an hr and a half. It worth the extra time, gas, and miles to experience the way they treat and care for my children!

What dentist turns away a sick 4 yr old who has an abscess tooth ! Told me you could get him in 3 weeks and after I call every other dentist around my area up to 150 miles out of me and you guys are the only ones who can get him in before the new year and you now refuse to see him! Way to let a child down ! This was his last hope ! Would NOT recommend! My niece didn't even like the way he spoke to her or how rough he was when she went to her one and only appointment before changing dentist.

We searched high & low for a pediatric dentist in our surrounding area(from IL). We found Colgan & couldn't be more impressed. I have twin 3 year old boys. They had their first appointment for cleanings and it was a very calm & great experience. My boys loved their first visit. One of my twins has a couple cavities & we chose to do SDF treatments to try and buy us time to do fillings. Today we just finished up our second treatment. We were in and out within 10 mins. No issues whatsoever. We saw both dentists(Dr Justin the first time & Dr John today) both were very professional, gentle, and calm. They were both very impressed with how well behaved my child was & complimented him on what a big boy he was. There was no struggles. 10/10 recommend this practice to everyone! The whole staff from front to back are excellent!

I took my 3 year old son here Monday. He had a couple of cavities that needed to be treated with a type of antiBacterial gel. I am sure it taste horrible. The dentist was extremely rude. He lectured me and my child both on his behavior.... normal crying I think you would expect from any 3 year old child being held done with metal objects placed in their mouth. My child left the office with TWO bruises on the left side of his face from the metal instrument the dentist placed in his mouth. One bruise is clearly from the instrument pinching his face and the other appears to be from pressure! Maybe this dentist would cry too if someone was pinching his face and applying enough pressure to his face to bruise it! We will never go back here. The office staff is friendly and patient with the children but the dentist should have clearly not choose pediatrics.

Highly recommend! My girls love Dr.Justin and Dr. John. Both girls were very apprehensive about going to a new dentist office and they ended up loving it more than our previous office! Very friendly staff!

I usually always book my children's appointments together. We all go in one room and take turns, this time they called my children separately. I ran back real quick and talked to the hygienist and told her we were there for cleaning and nothing has changed since our previous visit besides going to Dr. Heine for an extraction of the two teeth on top. Then I asked if she needed me to stay, that my other child was waiting in the waiting room and she said no. They called my other daughter back I got her set up and came back to check on my first child when I walked in she had on nitrous. I asked what was going on and the hygienist explained she had a cavity on the top left and they were going to fill it. I told her that I knew nothing about this and she showed me the x-ray and reassured me that my child was okay and she was sorry about the mix up that they usually tell you when booking your appointment. (I usually see John Colgan) Justin Colgan came and got started on her tooth he looked at the x-ray started drilling and looked back at the X-ray and said this doesn't look as bad as it does on the x-ray and started drilling again. A hygienist stepped in and ask to take my child's paper work and walked out. I felt uneasy the whole time but this is when I knew they messed up. The hygienist told me to go up front and she would go find my daughters paper work. When I got up front the front desk she asked, "Just the two cleanings?" I replied back "No , they did work". She said oh okay I will wait for them to bring the paper. (mean while everyone is darting from room to room in a panic behind me) A lady and Justin come out and talk to me in the hallway and pretty much sum it up as "oh... well... she did have a bit of a cavity there and I took care of it" (What? That's how you want to start a conversation) I replied with "So, you mixed my daughters files up with another kids" Justin replied with, "Yeah they had the same first name. If you want to stay around so we can get her in for her cleaning and x-rays you can." I wasn't going to but I wanted all of this for her records . They asked me to go out to the waiting room. They called me back again and Justin asked me to step in his office while my daughter was having her cleaning. He basically took no fault and blamed the hygienist and said she was going to be fired. I told him I didn't think she should be fired because they have a messed up system. -When calling a patient from the waiting room use first and last names - When doing anything GET A PARENTS CONSENT I told him I wasn't expecting to pay and he said, "No you will not be billed" guess what came in the mail today?!?! I was going to leave this off social media but since they cant seem to run things properly here is how I am rating your office. WORST EXPERANCE EVER!

Colgan Pediatric is hands down the BEST pediatric in western Kentucky. Dr. John & Dr. Justin do a fantastic job at explaining and educating both children & parents about good oral hygiene. They are compassionate and the atmosphere is so calming and you can tell they put a lot of thought into making each child comfortable for their dental visits. The staff is fantastic, clean environment, and always a great experience! 10/10 recommend!!

I took my daughter here for the 1st time and fell in love with the staff!!! My daughter gets anxiety with new things so to have the staff be so patient and kind set my mind and her mind at ease. Dr. Colgan talked to her told her what he was doing and made sure she was comfortable. Anyone who goes over and beyond for my kids is definitely worth recommending to others. I would recommend this place to everyone and anyone who asks.
