How can you leave a place like Amelia Island? That is exactly my question! I am a true native of Fernandina Beach, born on the island and attending the public schools here. I enjoyed growing up on the beach with my four brothers. My love for swimming and all things involving the water eventually led to several great summer jobs, lifeguarding and teaching swimming lessons. In a quest to experience the city life I attended Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia after graduating from Fernandina Beach High School. My chemistry teacher inspired me to seek a degree in chemistry and, later, I decided to follow my fathers footsteps into the field of dentistry. Having experienced orthodontic treatment as a student, I was excited to pursue a degree in orthodontics and was accepted into the residency program at Emory. There, I met my husband and eventual partner in practice, Dr. Tod Garner. Returning to Amelia Island was our goal and we established the first of four offices in north Florida. I am very blessed to have been raised in such a wonderful community and to have been allowed to raise our four daughters in the same family-friendly environment. I grew up in coastal North Carolina and always dreamed of living on or near the water. Some of my best memories are of fishing, clamming and boating with my family near the southern tip of the Outer Banks. As a student I managed to excel in science and math, even though my mind was usually on playing in the next basketball, baseball or football game. As a senior, I was excited to learn that I was accepted to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and enjoyed my years there (Michael Jordan made basketball games fun!) as a chemistry major and graduated from the UNC School of Dentistry.
During college I was fortunate enough to have orthodontic treatment. It was then that I learned about a career that would become my goal. This dream led me to a residency at Emory University in Atlanta. But, little did I know it would also lead me to my wife and a new home in Florida. I met my wife and partner, Suellen, in the dental school library. After we completed our residency programs, we moved back to her home town in Florida. Fortunately, it led me back to the coast where we have enjoyed raising four daughters and when time has allowed, boating and fishing. I feel blessed to practice with my wife and two fantastic partners, Dr. Valerie Minor and Dr. Brad Mokris. As Jacksonville, Fernandina Beach and Macclenny, FL, orthodontists, orthodontics is our passion. I did not always want to be an orthodontist. I did consider dentistry or possibly medicine as a career choice after completing a 9th grade science project on Which toothpaste whitens the best ?. However, when it was time to go off to college, I could not imagine going to school for another 8+ years, so I decided to get an engineering degree. After graduating from North Carolina State University with degrees in Chemical Engineering and Pulp and Paper Science, I was fortunate to get a great job working for Rayonier in Fernandina Beach, FL, near my hometown.
After a short time working in the manufacturing industry, I decided that this was not for me. While working at Rayonier, I spent some time shadowing Dr. Suellen Rodeffer in her orthodontic practice. I realized very quickly that this was a profession that I would love. It seemed to combine the engineering that I had learned with the interaction and care for people that I was missing in a manufacturing facility. I was amazed to see the changes that could take place and the smiles on the faces of Dr. Rodeffers patients when they would leave her office. At that time, Dr. Rodeffer joked with me that one day I would come back and be one of her partners. Little did I know that God was planning that very path for me.
With the blessing of my wonderful husband, I made up my mind to pursue that goal. After taking several prerequisite courses while still working for Rayonier, we packed up and moved to Gainesville, FL, for 7 years of training at the University of Florida. I am so blessed that God saw fit to lead me down this amazing journey. I joined Rodeffer and Garner Orthodontics in 2006, and my husband Will was able to teach and start the baseball program at the newly opened Yulee High School. We became Rodeffer, Garner, and Minor Orthodontics shortly thereafter, and now we have changed the name again to Coastline Orthodontics with the addition of Dr. Mokris to our practice. My husband, Will is part owner of Netting Professionals, a business that specializes in sports netting and supplies for recreational leagues, high schools, colleges, and pro sports teams. We have 4 amazing children named Harper, Savannah, Ava, and Addison (twins). Needless to say, our kids keep us very busy, but they are the joy of our lives.
When I am not at the office or at one of our childrens activities, I enjoy going to the beach, exercising, reading, and watching sporting events especially Gator football and baseball. I am so blessed to be aMacclenny, Fernandina Beach and Jacksonville, FL, orthodontist, in such a beautiful area with amazing people. I enjoy getting to know our patients and watching the transformation that takes place as they develop more confidence in their smiles. We were recommended to Coastline orthodontics & could not have been happier with our experience! Our coordinator did a fantastic job explaining everything & answering all our questions, Dr. Morkis was thorough, & recommended minimally necessary treatment. His work was quick precise & my son felt completely at ease the entire time. Courtney H has a great bedside manner & walked us thru every step of the same-day process. We have a very happy teen!

I shopped around before deciding on an orthodontist and Coastline worked the best with my insurance and my financial situation. And the staff is just fantastic. They could not be any nicer or more friendly.

I just started taking my son to Coastline Orthodontics in Fernandina Beach and we could not be more pleased! First the incredibly kind lady on the phone, then the lady who performed our initial evaluation and then the doctors and technicians we've dealt with...ALL have been so sweet and happy to see us and accommodating to our needs. Questions are answered happily and thoroughly and our experience has been absolutely first rate! Not to mention the beautiful, sparkling and inviting office! I'm so glad we were referred to this place and will definitely be bringing my daughter here too when she's ready for her braces.

My experience with coastline has far exceeded any expectations I've had... my daughter looks forward to her monthly ortho appointments and the office staff is always so accommodating nice and welcoming... I could not have been blessed with a better orthodontist office for my baby girl :)

2 days agoNEW Recommended to me and what a great find! The staff is amazing! From the receptionist up, they go above and beyond their duties. They are very friendly, explain everything well, are very honest. Also have payment plans if needed. The dentists are very professional, empathetic, kind and personable. Always a great experience, who can say that for most dental places. Love it!

Transferring from NY to FL was a task however this office made the process easy and was so willing to help! They were beyond friendly and helpful! The office is beautiful and very well kept. The front desk is always having fun "games" for the kids in order to enter drawings to win prizes. I am very pleased with the overall service we have received.

Coastline Orthodontics is the most wonderful orthodontist practice that I have ever experienced!!! The staff is so caring and always willing to help in anyway possible. The knowledge that the staff is amazing!! The staff is always willing to go above and beyond even though it may not be their responsibility. I just had an experience with my retainer due to the retainer club's website (which is not part of Coastline ) they called and made sure that I was taken care of properly and not taken advantage of (special thanks to Marissa). Now for the Orthodontists in their practice....I have seen 3 of them during my 2 years and all 3 were so GREAT!!!! Of course, I had one dedicated to my treatment (Dr. Minor) and she was the most awesome caring and worked so hard to get me the best results ever. I have a beautiful smile and love smiling now and taking pictures when I would never do either before. Thank you so much to Coastline Orthodontics and the WHOLE STAFF!!!
