Legacy means a lot to Dr. Harris Brown and his family. After all, it was Dr. Browns grandfather, Dr. James Brown, Jr., who began the passion for dentistry and love for Mobile that runs so strong through the Brown family. In 1919, Dr. James Brown, Jr. moved to Mobile to start his practice the first orthodontic practice in Mobile. Dr. Harris Browns father, Dr. James E. Brown, III, a general dentist, and his uncle, Dr. Willis Brown, an orthodontist, also practiced in Mobile. For over 90 years, the Brown family has been providing exceptional dental care to the Mobile Bay area!
With his expertise in periodontics, Dr. Harris Brown has also been continuing that legacy for over 30 years. A native of Mobile, Dr. Brown graduated from UMS in 1972 and attended the University of Alabama for his undergraduate studies. He followed in his familys footsteps by attending the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Dentistry, where he graduated in 1980. He went on to complete a residency in periodontics and has been in practice since 1982.
Dr. Brown is known as an expert in implant dentistry and periodontal laser therapy. He stays on the cutting-edge of technological advancements in periodontics through active membership in many leading dental and periodontal organizations, including the:
Dr. Brown enjoys being outdoors fishing, boating and hunting. He and his wife, Margaret, have two children, Ann (Brown) Madsen and Dr. H. Radcliff Brown, Jr. His son is a general dentist and continues the family tradition of dentistry.
It is our great pleasure to introduce a new addition to our team, Lauren Metzger, DMD, MSD. We are excited to have her join Coastal Periodontics & Implant Dentistry, in July 2019. Dr. Metzger strives to achieve excellence in the field of Periodontics and is enthusiastic about providing the best care for our patients with the latest treatments available.

Our staff members have specialized training, multiple certifications, and years of experience treating patients with the highest level of care. I was recently referred to Dr. Harris Brown by my regular dentist because of a gum infection. After examination and x-rays it was determined that I had a cracked tooth with an abscess underneath it. Dr. Harris extracted the tooth and also took out the root of a tooth with a crown that had broken off. Let me just say it was quick, painless, AND he called me that night to check to see if I was doing okay. And his office staff is second to none. Highly recommend him to any one.

The entire team at Coastal is terrific! I needed several gum graft procedures so I was a little anxious because of the stories I'd heard from others who'd had similar procedures. Dr. Metzger took the time to explain everything in detail which helped alleviate much of my anxiety! I've had an amazing experience at Coastal with incredible results. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a consultation or who needs work performed. Go see them today!
