In 1989, Dr. Bruce Arn graduated from Appalachian State University where he attended on an Athletic Scholarship for Soccer. From ASU he went on to The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for graduate school. He finished his Master of Science degree in Audiology in 91. While in graduate school, Dr. Arn was able to work very closely with the UNC-CH Dept. of Otolaryngology (ENT). It was during this time that he developed an interest in head and neck surgery. He also became acquainted with many of the Dental students at Chapel Hill. It was because of these friendships that he made the decision to apply to the UNC-CH School of Dentistry (being accepted in 93).
After graduating with a DDS degree in 97, Dr. Arn was accepted into the UNC-CH Department of Anesthesiology as a resident. He interviewed alongside many newly graduated MDs for this very competitive position. After his anesthesiology residency, he received comprehensive training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) at the UCSF-Fresno campus (University Medical Center- a Level I trauma center). It was at this time that he was able to develop his skills in bone grafting, dental implant placement, wisdom tooth extractions, facial reconstruction, treatment of head and neck trauma and cancer, pediatric craniofacial surgery, and pathology.
In 2002, Dr. Arn moved to Wilmington, NC and established his practice. In the early years of being in private practice he held an adjunct associate professor position in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UNC-CH; he was appointed as a team doctor for the UNC-W Athletic department; and elected President of the Board of Directors for the Cape Fear Soccer Association. He also developed an interest in disaster and tactical medicine which led to his assisting the men and women of the US Armed Services. He was appointed to the editorial review board of the Journal of Special Operations Medicine and the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons disaster relief team.
Our clinical staff members have been cross-trained in surgical assisting and anesthesia management. They also have undergone training in infection control, x-ray technology, and have completed courses in dental implant techniques from the Zimmer Biomet Institute.
Each member has successfully completed rigorous training in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and is competent in mitigating in-office emergencies along with annual OSHA trainings. The team has also completed additional training offered by the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons in anesthesia and office emergencies.
Our administrative staff has years of experience in both the medical and dental fields. They were selected for their outstanding customer service and expertise in their respective fields. Our staff is required to complete annual training in OSHA, insurance coding and billing, infection control, CPR, and practice management.

Fantastic experience! The front desk staff was so welcoming and warm. The assistant who helped me, Sarah, was extremely professional, efficient and funny! She made me feel relaxed and safe the whole time. Dr Arne was like a dream... great bedside manner, even better dad jokes. No one likes having dental work done, but if you need an oral surgeon, this is the place to go.

Staff was very friendly and made sure I was comfortable and answered any questions I had. Dr. Arne came out and personally spoke to my driver and made sure we had all the information we needed to continue to recover and take the best care of me. I was so nervous but Mrs. Hannah and the rest of the team was so incredibly kind, helpful, and upbeat. I appreciate their work and the dental work itself went flawlessly. 10/10 would recommend if you need your wisdom teeth out:)

I just had a procedure today! Super easy, organized, in and out smoothly and I feel great. Dr Arne is so knowledgeable and easy to work with, the staff is super pleasant and organized. So grateful to have found this office and will be back when needed. Highly recommend them!

I want to commend Dr.Arne and his staff for their thorough care and service when guiding me through my wisdom teeth surgery. I had neglected going to the dentist for many years and had some wisdom teeth that should of been gone years ago! The only reason I ended up here is because I was experiencing throbbing pain in my wisdom tooth and my dentist referred me to Dr. Arne's office for surgery. I scheduled an appointment for late June. Though, the pain started to become unbearable and I was running out of options. I left a voicemail on the office emergency line over Memorial Day weekend. I called Dr. Arne's office back that Tuesday and the girl up front told me she would call me back. She did and was able to work me in for surgery the very next day! When I first got settled in the chair for surgery, I was quite nervous to be honest. Those nerves were settled quickly by Dr. Arne and his staff. They are very sweet and thorough and do a great job of communicating what they are doing at that moment. Anesthesia went flawlessly and the next second I was up and ready to go. Thank you all for working me into your busy schedules and I am so thankful to have this in the rear view. If you are looking for an Oral Surgeon in the future I would recommend Dr. Arne every time.

Had to get 4 wisdom teeth removed. Dr. Arne and his team were so beyond nice and caring to me. When I went in for my consultation, they were thorough and just had great vibes. However, with at Bruce Arne's , I expressed my huge fear of needles (IV) as I've never had one before and they were able to put my anxiety/nerves at ease. If you are in the ILM area and need to have wisdom teeth surgery, I HIGHLY recommend this place. Dr. Arne also called me post surgery to check in on how I was regarding any pain or discomfort, but they gave me everything I needed and I haven't had much pain at all. 10/10!

I would highly recommend this place to anyone that needs oral surgery. Dr. Lombardo and the staff make you feel like part of the family and treat you extremely well. It's like they have known you for years and that makes the setting of the place very comfortable.
