TAMPA, Fla. (October 13, 2020) Coast Dental & Orthodontics is notifying patients about a data theft investigation. The information stolen involves certain patients who received care at the Coast Dental offices in Conyers and North Druid Hills in Georgia.
During the night of August 6, 2020 into August 7, 2020, a locked moving truck containing equipment and patient records was stolen from a parking lot in Atlanta, Georgia. The police recovered the truck on or about August 8, 2020 and the truck was secured by the police and placed in an impound lot. Coast Dental placed a lock on the truck while it was in the secured impound lot until the truck could be moved from impound. On August 25, 2020, Coast Dental recovered access and possession of the truck and the items inside the truck. Coast Dental secured the contents and transferred the property to its facility in Florida. From approximately August 26 through August 28, 2020, the contents were inventoried, and upon a full investigation, it was discovered that among other equipment and property, approximately 1,700 patient records containing patient information were compromised or missing.
In an abundance of caution, on October 13, 2020, Coast started mailing letters to affected patients, notifying them of this incident and also offering access to credit monitoring services at no cost to those whose social security numbers may have been compromised. Patients whose information was involved are advised to follow the instructions in the letter to protect their data.
Patients who believe they may be affected by this incident may call (855) 252-2731 Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m., and Saturday - Sunday between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. EST., excluding major U.S. holidays.
Coast Dental is committed to protecting the confidentiality and security of patient information. In response to the incident, Coast Dental has provided additional education to its workforce members and refined processes to better secure patient information.

Coastal Dental on Anastasia Island Maria was a great hygienist and did a great job cleaning my teeth. Not only did she make my smile look great , she made me smile because she has a great personality. The X-ray technician was nice too and very professional. I also had for the first time, a tele-dental dentist reviewed my X-rays and talked to the hygienist and me about any concerns I or she had about my dental health exam. I felt that I got an A rated cleaning and exam this time. Miles and miles improved from the last 3 times I was there.

The absolute worst dental experience ever! I scheduled an EMERGENCY appointment for a broken tooth at the beginning of September that I had to wait a month to be seen for. Then when I arrive to the appointment all they do is xrays, prescribe an antibiotic, & tell me they can't do anything until I have a cleaning done. All the antibiotics did was make the pain worse to where I can't hardly open my mouth, so I went back & told them to just pull the broken tooth because it was causing me too much pain. Once again they did nothing but send me off with a referral for an oral surgeon. I will never go back to this place & will definitely not recommend them to anyone I know.

I had a really bad tooth and they got me in quick and prescribed me some medicine and referred me to an oral surgeon to get taken care of . I was able to get in relatively quickly, and the dentist and staff were very nice .

The Dental Hygienist Maria is the best!! Makes you feel comfortable. The new dentist is arriving tomorrow. Hopefully he will be as nice as his assistants.

I would not recommend this dental office. They are deceptive. I went in for my routine cleaning, had x rays and they had me sign a paper of what I would owe at the end of the cleaning. I agreed and signed. I have probably the best dental insurance available so didn't anticipate a lot of out of pocket expenses. They would only clean 1/4 of my mouth/teeth due to "insurance purposes" and said I had to come back 30 days later for the rest of the 3/4 of my mouth/teeth. Long story short insurance only paid a small portion and denied most of the claims and I had to pay out of pocket several hundred dollars. There was an electrical fire while I was having my teeth cleaned and the fire dept came. Half of the cleaning equipment wasn't working due to the electrical fire. Then About 3 months later I got a bill in the mail, I had less than one week to pay. Do not use them, they are deceptive. I called corporate and tried to contact billing dept which requires a voice message but the mailbox is always full.

I had made an appointment yesterday and scheduled it for this Friday. The scheduling service they use is from overseas. I could barely understand the person speaking to me when I made the appointment. The next day, someone from Coast's scheduling service left a long voicemail on my phone that I couldn't interpret or understand, other than "we require a response from you or we'll cancel your appointment." I first thought there was some issue with my insurance. I called the main number to ask why they called. To get an answer, I had to verify every piece of info I previously gave them. Apparently, it was an attempt to confirm my appointment. Confirming appointments isn't uncommon, but the message was unintelligible, unprofessional, and rude. I immediately cancelled my appointment (which took more time than it needed to because the agent couldn't understand me and wasted my time). The whole experience was unpleasant and weird, and I'm just not interested in that kind of process for going to see a dentist.

I have anxiety going to the dentist, finally had to break down and go and this time was great! The hygienist Maria was absolutely awesome the way she just talks to you and explaining every detail keeps you calm and relaxed best experience I have ever had! Thanks Maria!

Appt. was at 2pm. Office goes to lunch 1-2. I was only patient waiting and they didn't call me back until 2:15 when they all got back from lunch. I was surprised office has gone to video chat dentist. No dentist in office. No one asked if I had any issues or concerns. Just did x-ray and cleaning, and video dentist said they review x-ray and I was fine. Maria, my hygienist was thorough, and fun to visit with. Amazing person! Considering changing dentists.
