TAMPA, Fla. (October 13, 2020) Coast Dental & Orthodontics is notifying patients about a data theft investigation. The information stolen involves certain patients who received care at the Coast Dental offices in Conyers and North Druid Hills in Georgia.
During the night of August 6, 2020 into August 7, 2020, a locked moving truck containing equipment and patient records was stolen from a parking lot in Atlanta, Georgia. The police recovered the truck on or about August 8, 2020 and the truck was secured by the police and placed in an impound lot. Coast Dental placed a lock on the truck while it was in the secured impound lot until the truck could be moved from impound. On August 25, 2020, Coast Dental recovered access and possession of the truck and the items inside the truck. Coast Dental secured the contents and transferred the property to its facility in Florida. From approximately August 26 through August 28, 2020, the contents were inventoried, and upon a full investigation, it was discovered that among other equipment and property, approximately 1,700 patient records containing patient information were compromised or missing.
In an abundance of caution, on October 13, 2020, Coast started mailing letters to affected patients, notifying them of this incident and also offering access to credit monitoring services at no cost to those whose social security numbers may have been compromised. Patients whose information was involved are advised to follow the instructions in the letter to protect their data.
Patients who believe they may be affected by this incident may call (855) 252-2731 Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m., and Saturday - Sunday between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. EST., excluding major U.S. holidays.
Coast Dental is committed to protecting the confidentiality and security of patient information. In response to the incident, Coast Dental has provided additional education to its workforce members and refined processes to better secure patient information.

I would give 10 stars if I could. I have really bad anxiety when it comes to going to dentist and Dr. Shariff literally made sure I was as comfortable as possible. All of the staff were very friendly and welcoming as well! I'll never go to any other location!

Staff was friendly and my hygienist made sure there was no discomfort. That was written 3 months ago. Since then I have found out they did an procedure that was unnecessary and did not submit to my insurance for prior approval. They double billed for several procedures and broke my husbands partial and are trying to charge him for an adjustment. They have a lot of staff turn over and refuse to return calls. I am in the process of filing a complaint with Humana, as well as the BBB and do some background investigation. They are attempting to collect from us on charges such as ""unspecified preventative procedure" and copays that we do not owe. DO NOT USE COAST DENTAL.

I was seen at this location on 7/25/22 as a new patient. From the start, it wasn't a great experience. The receptionist (I can't recall her name) was not very welcoming. She did not smile at me once and looked miserable the entire time I was there. Also, I wasn't told that only imaging would be done at my visit since they only had one hygienist scheduled that day. However, the tech (male) that did my X-rays was really nice and efficient so it wasn't a big deal. The doctor was just fine. The real issue started once my visit was over. At the end of my visit I asked for a copy of my records. I attend school in VA and wanted a copy in case I needed to be seen by a different dentist until I went back to FL (home). I called back a month later and they said they didn't have it on file so the receptionist said she'll email me a consent form. Four days go by and nothing. When I called back, I spoke with a different receptionist (sounded young, female), who was really nice. She emailed me a form right away. I filled it out and sent it back the same day. Then, I spent every single day on the phone with the office to get a copy of my records. Two weeks go by and I finally received them today. I was hung up on twice by the receptionist, Linda and the only positive part of my experience was speaking with the other receptionist. Rossie is the manager at this location and trying to get a hold of my own records from her has been incredibly difficult. It is literally a few images that she had to send to me and the whole ordeal took longer than a month with constant pestering. I understand that everyone is busy but I don't see any reason for this to take as long as it did. I'm also in the medical profession and I don't know any office personally that would be okay with a single patient calling every day for something so basic and not having it handled efficiently. All in all, I'm glad I was able to get ahold of my records but I will not be returning.
