TAMPA, Fla. (October 13, 2020) Coast Dental & Orthodontics is notifying patients about a data theft investigation. The information stolen involves certain patients who received care at the Coast Dental offices in Conyers and North Druid Hills in Georgia.
During the night of August 6, 2020 into August 7, 2020, a locked moving truck containing equipment and patient records was stolen from a parking lot in Atlanta, Georgia. The police recovered the truck on or about August 8, 2020 and the truck was secured by the police and placed in an impound lot. Coast Dental placed a lock on the truck while it was in the secured impound lot until the truck could be moved from impound. On August 25, 2020, Coast Dental recovered access and possession of the truck and the items inside the truck. Coast Dental secured the contents and transferred the property to its facility in Florida. From approximately August 26 through August 28, 2020, the contents were inventoried, and upon a full investigation, it was discovered that among other equipment and property, approximately 1,700 patient records containing patient information were compromised or missing.
In an abundance of caution, on October 13, 2020, Coast started mailing letters to affected patients, notifying them of this incident and also offering access to credit monitoring services at no cost to those whose social security numbers may have been compromised. Patients whose information was involved are advised to follow the instructions in the letter to protect their data.
Patients who believe they may be affected by this incident may call (855) 252-2731 Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m., and Saturday - Sunday between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. EST., excluding major U.S. holidays.
Coast Dental is committed to protecting the confidentiality and security of patient information. In response to the incident, Coast Dental has provided additional education to its workforce members and refined processes to better secure patient information.

First of all the staff is great! I had my teeth cleaned last week. Excellent cleaning! This week a crown. The dentist was extremely thorough, while at the same time making sure I was doing ok and not in any pain. Very caring. It was the most relaxed I have ever been sitting in a dentist chair! My only complaint...the office needs to be re-decorated.

The dental hygienist here is a FRAUD! I am new to the area and went to this office to get a regular teeth cleaning that is covered by my husband's insurance. After looking at my teeth, the hygienist told me that I had periodontal disease and that I needed a special cleaning that cost $1,500 (out of pocket)!!! [Note: she had already charged me $200 for an oral cancer screening that most dental office's do for free.] I was completely distraught and almost in tears... being told that I had periodontal disease. I have never been told that in my life (and I am over 50)! I told her that I was not prepared to pay $1,500 and asked if I could just get the regular cleaning that is covered by my husband's insurance. She refused. I then asked to speak to the dentist. He came in and looked at my teeth and said they looked fine. Of course, I was thrilled to know that I didn't have periodontal disease but so upset that the hygienist lied to me. There was no way that I was going to let her work on my teeth. I left. I called my sister-in-law, who is also a dental hygienist (but unfortunately lives across the country from me). She shared with me that some hygienist work on commission. I guess since I came in wearing nice diamond jewelry (and maybe because I am english speaking) the fraudulent hygienist thought she could take advantage of me. I just recently went to a different dental office and they told me that my teeth and gums are in great condition and gave me a regular teeth cleaning without any issues. So, again, do not trust the hygienist here, she is a FRAUD!

The dental hygienist is top notch. She is professional, thorough and does a great job. She spends the right amount of time with you to ensure a great outcome. The office staff is also top notch. I highly recommend them! Update; Dentist was terrible with customer service. Will not return and don't bother telling me to call your 800 number!
