TAMPA, Fla. (October 13, 2020) Coast Dental & Orthodontics is notifying patients about a data theft investigation. The information stolen involves certain patients who received care at the Coast Dental offices in Conyers and North Druid Hills in Georgia.
During the night of August 6, 2020 into August 7, 2020, a locked moving truck containing equipment and patient records was stolen from a parking lot in Atlanta, Georgia. The police recovered the truck on or about August 8, 2020 and the truck was secured by the police and placed in an impound lot. Coast Dental placed a lock on the truck while it was in the secured impound lot until the truck could be moved from impound. On August 25, 2020, Coast Dental recovered access and possession of the truck and the items inside the truck. Coast Dental secured the contents and transferred the property to its facility in Florida. From approximately August 26 through August 28, 2020, the contents were inventoried, and upon a full investigation, it was discovered that among other equipment and property, approximately 1,700 patient records containing patient information were compromised or missing.
In an abundance of caution, on October 13, 2020, Coast started mailing letters to affected patients, notifying them of this incident and also offering access to credit monitoring services at no cost to those whose social security numbers may have been compromised. Patients whose information was involved are advised to follow the instructions in the letter to protect their data.
Patients who believe they may be affected by this incident may call (855) 252-2731 Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m., and Saturday - Sunday between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. EST., excluding major U.S. holidays.
Coast Dental is committed to protecting the confidentiality and security of patient information. In response to the incident, Coast Dental has provided additional education to its workforce members and refined processes to better secure patient information.

Most dentist offices play soft soothing music but I hear rather loud rock and roll in your office. Maybe consider playing that for staff only and not for patients.

I had a scheduled appointment for a deep clean and work on my gums for gingivitis. When I arrived I told the hygienist that I just wanted a regular clean as I could not afford the other. I am a widow with only $1000.00 a month income to pay for housing, utilities, food and necessities. He tried to talk me into financing but I explained that I couldn't afford another payment. I told him I am legally blind and can't drive or work and I wanted to try and save money for my 4 cavities and crown that needed to be done. I was told that they would only do this deep clean which was almost was $400, nd if I didn't do it they would not do the other work. The hygienist was rude and even implied that if I worked then I could have more money. So I guess if I can't find another dentist to take Medicare and be willing to do a regular cleaning and the rest of my work, I will just save money so when my teeth rot out in several years I'll just get dentures.

I've been visiting them for years and as always they are friendly, honest and treat the patients with respect and empathy. The staff is always welcoming and Dr. Ortiz is awesome!!! He will make sure you understand everything before you leave.

I was sent over from the lakeland north store because the dr at the lakeland location was leaving the practice and left a lot of loose ends with that office so I was pleasantly surprised that the plant city office not only tied up the loose ends that was left from the north lakeland location but made me feel welcome and I just love dr Ortiz he has pleasant bed size manner and made sure that I felt comfortable with my new Partials but give me a 2wk appointment to make sure that I was still happy with my new teeth and to make any adjustments that's needed wow I wish I would have came to the plant city location in the first place Thanks for the great service plant city!!!!

Over schedule patients office manager was no help use the excuse that someone called in ok call patience and reschedule them don't have them come in for you to do have the haft the job so you can charge the insurance and then reschedule them anyways would have gave no starts if I could have

Coast Dental staff members freely greet you, they are very friendly. The assigned hygienist explains to you what her tasks are and why. The hygienist is willing to answer your questions. My dentist greeted me when he entered my treatment room and talked with me about the treatment plan for this appointment.. My dentist showed compassion when I hummed while receiving the numbing of my gum. I'm pleased that the dentist acknowledged my discomfort.. I will recommend S. Coast Dental. Very professional.
