TAMPA, Fla. (October 13, 2020) Coast Dental & Orthodontics is notifying patients about a data theft investigation. The information stolen involves certain patients who received care at the Coast Dental offices in Conyers and North Druid Hills in Georgia.

During the night of August 6, 2020 into August 7, 2020, a locked moving truck containing equipment and patient records was stolen from a parking lot in Atlanta, Georgia. The police recovered the truck on or about August 8, 2020 and the truck was secured by the police and placed in an impound lot. Coast Dental placed a lock on the truck while it was in the secured impound lot until the truck could be moved from impound. On August 25, 2020, Coast Dental recovered access and possession of the truck and the items inside the truck. Coast Dental secured the contents and transferred the property to its facility in Florida. From approximately August 26 through August 28, 2020, the contents were inventoried, and upon a full investigation, it was discovered that among other equipment and property, approximately 1,700 patient records containing patient information were compromised or missing.

In an abundance of caution, on October 13, 2020, Coast started mailing letters to affected patients, notifying them of this incident and also offering access to credit monitoring services at no cost to those whose social security numbers may have been compromised. Patients whose information was involved are advised to follow the instructions in the letter to protect their data.

Patients who believe they may be affected by this incident may call (855) 252-2731 Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m., and Saturday - Sunday between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. EST., excluding major U.S. holidays.

Coast Dental is committed to protecting the confidentiality and security of patient information. In response to the incident, Coast Dental has provided additional education to its workforce members and refined processes to better secure patient information.

The receptionist was warm and friendly, as were the two hygienists that helped me. I was ashamed and nervous since it was so long since I was at the dentists. The wonderful, articulate young lady, Lorena that took my X-rays and deep cleaned my teeth, was the best I ever had! She explained everything so well! Doctor Choi is not only professional but also very warm and caring. He put me at ease. My dental work is almost done, and I'm getting compliments on my teeth and smile. I couldn't be happier! Dr. Choi is a detailed and precise. He has a real gift.

Dr Choi and Jessie were my team and I can't say enough to how positive my experience was. Jessie made me very comfortable with my initial evaluation and Dr. Choi did the same along with taking a great deal of time with me and putting together a plan of action with my challenging situation which no other practice has for me. Thank you Jessie and Dr. Choi.

Dr Choi and Jess gave me my smile back. I went to see Dr Choi to get dentures because I had gone years with crooked and missing teeth and I was embarrassed to even smile. I was having trouble chewing food and just didn't know what to do. The teeth I did have were healthy so they helped me decide on implants for the missing teeth. Boy, am I glad I listened to them. The office staff are a wonderful group and make you feel so comfortable while you are there. Dr Choi and Jess always made sure that I was comfortable during the process and I will continue to go to them for all my dental care. Thank you Dr Choi, Jess and Evie you are the best!!!

Dr. Choi and the entire office staff are the best! I'm having so much work done that I see them often. I look forward to the appointments knowing that once again, I'll be able to smile. Why are they the best? Following are a few examples: 1. To build up a bite, Dr. Choi replaced a worn-out crown for free! 2. The office staff know me by name and help me in any way they can. 3. Dr.Choi, as well as his entire staff, do so much more than get the job done. It is done with pride, integrity, and pure service to others. 4. Dr. Choi's expertise is outstanding, as well as his dedication to his profession and patients. I could go on, but you hopefully understand what I mean. THE BEST!

I had an unpleasant experience (in Oct. 2020) at Coast Dental in N. Fort Myers. I made an appointment (which was a long ordeal on its own) for my initial exam and they managed to get me with an appointment for my initial exam within a couple days. At the initial exam, Dr. Choi went into my mouth area, was pulling at my teeth for strength and with a very sharp instrument and was poking into my gums, penetrating in some areas to see how soft my tissue was. I was given x-rays. I was told I needed a tooth extracted and a deep cleaning. Soon afterwards I was given an initial estimate for the extraction and deep cleaning (around $2,000) and told that I needed to call my dental insurance to make this Coast Dental location my primary dental provider so they can cover the cost of this visit and the extraction/cleaning the following week (Coast Dental in Port Charlotte was my provider but I hadn't made my first appointment with them yet - they had a long wait time for appointments). Right after that initial exam I called my dental insurance provider on my way home in the car and was assured by them that the extraction and deep cleaning was all covered. I was told by Marilyn at the front desk she would call to book a surgery and confirm that my primary dentist transfer was a success. Within a couple days I didn't hear back, so I left a message (she was not in the office at that time). She called back and she confirmed with me that I was covered up to $2500 by my insurance and managed to book me an appointment for cleaning and extraction the following week. In a few days she called one more time to confirm my appointment and I asked what was needed. She said nothing, it was covered by my dental insurance. I thanked her. The following week I went in for the tooth extraction and cleaning. After waiting in the surgery room for a few minutes, the dental assistant showed me the estimate on paper but I told them that Marilyn had already confirmed that it was already covered by insurance. I assumed everything was ready to go. After waiting a few minutes longer I was then told that it wasn't covered by dental insurance (remember: they gave me my estimate sheet before I called to make them my "primary dentist"). I told the dental assistant that Marilyn assured me that everything was taken care of already. I then walked to the front desk to speak to Marilyn directly, who told me that none of this was spoken to me of! Well, I was beyond livid, driving from Charlotte County to North Fort Myers and requesting this day off from work for this surgery. Instead of calling my insurance provider right then and there to have this all cleared up, she denied everything that she told me over the phone. I walked out very disappointed, angry and confused...as to why a simple phone call to my dental insurance provider could have cleared this up.

The dentist wanted to put implants in my jaw, I couldn't afford it and asked for just dentures for now. He told me he wouldn't because he gets paid more money for the implants. The bill would have been 6,000$ and only 2000$ covered under insurance... FOR ONE TOOTH!!!!! Dentures would only be 2000$ and have fixed all my teeth and all covered by my insurance! CON ARTIST BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!! They lie and cheat and steal if you let them!

If I could give this zero starts I would! Worst scheduling I've ever had. Scheduled a cleaning, took my time off work, showed up there and the hygienist had left! After rescheduling 5 times, I finally get another chance to get a cleaning. I leave work once again, get there and they did the exam and said it took too long so they can't do the cleaning when I specifically scheduled for a cleaning and an exam! It didn't make it any better that there were two other patients in the front office complaining about them too. Do not waste your time going there!!

Waited 2 months for my appt date for dentures. The day before my appt I get a call and they said we have to reschedule cause they won't have a dentist. I said it's a fitting for dentures. She said we don't do dentures here. I said I told the girl 2 months ago I needed to get dentures. Why didn't she tell me then. Her response...I DONT KNOW

I went here. They immediately took lots of xrays. They then told me they cannot help me ,but refuse to give me my x-rays ,my insurance paid for. They should have looked in my mouth b4 x-rays since they said they couldn't help me anyways. They knew this without xrays.I just want what belongs to me but they refused.
