TAMPA, Fla. (October 13, 2020) Coast Dental & Orthodontics is notifying patients about a data theft investigation. The information stolen involves certain patients who received care at the Coast Dental offices in Conyers and North Druid Hills in Georgia.
During the night of August 6, 2020 into August 7, 2020, a locked moving truck containing equipment and patient records was stolen from a parking lot in Atlanta, Georgia. The police recovered the truck on or about August 8, 2020 and the truck was secured by the police and placed in an impound lot. Coast Dental placed a lock on the truck while it was in the secured impound lot until the truck could be moved from impound. On August 25, 2020, Coast Dental recovered access and possession of the truck and the items inside the truck. Coast Dental secured the contents and transferred the property to its facility in Florida. From approximately August 26 through August 28, 2020, the contents were inventoried, and upon a full investigation, it was discovered that among other equipment and property, approximately 1,700 patient records containing patient information were compromised or missing.
In an abundance of caution, on October 13, 2020, Coast started mailing letters to affected patients, notifying them of this incident and also offering access to credit monitoring services at no cost to those whose social security numbers may have been compromised. Patients whose information was involved are advised to follow the instructions in the letter to protect their data.
Patients who believe they may be affected by this incident may call (855) 252-2731 Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m., and Saturday - Sunday between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. EST., excluding major U.S. holidays.
Coast Dental is committed to protecting the confidentiality and security of patient information. In response to the incident, Coast Dental has provided additional education to its workforce members and refined processes to better secure patient information.

Disappointed to say the least. I thought as a recent newcomer to Florida I was going to a professional establishment from all the exuberant reviews. I had an early 0900 hours first time appointment for a check-up and a cleaning. My wife, a work from home, 'health-insurance intake coordinator' and former Medical Office Manager and Medical Assistant, had filled out everything online and even called and spoke with "Ileana". (I hope the spelling of her name is correct, I'm actually copying the spelling of a "customer" by the same name who reviewed this establishment 4 months ago.) I arrived at 0850 hours, after almost an hour of traffic coming from the Corkscrew area. I walked up the stairs with my bookbag in tow and into the Coast Dental office on "Tami" which was empty, all the lights were on but no one was sitting at the front desk or waiting area. I walked over to the counter and called out "good morning", and in walked a woman, who I would later find out was Ileana the office manager. She didn't say good morning but rather asked me my name which I provided, as I asked whether I should sign in. No answer, but rather sternly, as if she was scolding me, asked me for my phone number, claiming that she had been calling me "all day yesterday" because she had not received any of my insurance information. I provided my contact number and told her " I do not know what you are talking about, since I have not received any voicemails from you or your office but rather text confirmations from the past few days, confirming the enrollment process and this morning's appointment." I even added that my wife had called Coastal Dental when first making the appointment to confirm they accepted our insurance, which they did and then a few days prior to my appointment to confirm all the paperwork had been received, which it had, by none other than by Ileana, the "office manager" herself. Miss Ileana became even more aggravated and rude and her English, which was obviously her second language, became more struggled so I spoke to her in Spanish to let her know that I was Latino as well, and give her an opportunity to express herself better in her native language. Her response was in English, "I don't feel comfortable providing services to you because of your Attitude and your voice", this despite me, being a very respectful individual, raised by a very strict single-mother who taught me to respect women while at the same time behaving like a proper male, which being from inner-city Brooklyn, I carry myself in an assertive and direct manner, but always with class and respect. Given her unwarranted and defensive response, I quickly became aware that I was dealing with a person with a lack of accountability, reasoning and most of all professionalism. I immediately began to record for my own safety as a black Latino and though I do not play the race card, I am aware that many fellow Latino's of fairer skin color, even as immigrant's themselves, begin to adopt racist attitudes more common to a society with affluence like those in SW Florida. Miss Ileana refused to provide me patient services and instead handed me a stack of forms to fill out, telling me that it would take at least an hour to validate my coverage. This despite me telling her that as a Regulatory Reviewer for the Medical Device industry I was already on call, and had done everything Coast Dental required with my wife's help, who also has an appointment later this week, so that everything would have gone as efficiently as possible. Miss Iliana's only coherent response was that the online forms is "another company" and that even as the "office manager, she has no control". I will await to hear back from Coast Dental's Corporate Head quarter's before posting miss Ileana's embarrassing dialogue with a first time patient and customer through a YouTube link. I am hoping that Coast Dental has more accountability than their "office Manager" and to avoid them the unnecessary humiliation I had to put up with, this morning in the place of dental services denied by Miss Iliana.

I went in for an exam and received a "plan" that stated what needed to be done and how much it would cost for the treatment. I returned shortly after the hurricane (less than 45 days) to start with the plan they proposed that said "All treatment and associated fees on the treatment plan are valid for (90) days from the date signed." They then provided me with a new estimate that was almost a 700% increase over the previous proposed amount. Wasted 2 days and left with nothing being done.

Way over priced, the dentist was working on six patients at once, and so far everything I've had done there needs to be redone again after spending thousands of dollars. I have begged them repeatedly to leave me alone and they keep sending me notices to make appointments. I'll never go there again. Save your money get a string and a door knob.

I am extremely disappointed with coast dental IN NAPLES this office are Scammers every time I've arrived they have a piece of paper showing me charges that I will be billed for before even seeing anyone in the back no x-rays no nothing and not to mention that I have insurance BUT YET THERE TRYING TO CHARGE ME FOR THINGS NOT PROVIDED BY MY INSURANCE SO THEY SAY !! be careful of this place!!!!I did not realize I was being scammed until after a couple times going and watching the same pattern.At 1 point i was sent somewhere else for an root canal that the place i was sent to said I never even needed to now going in today after a yr to get my yearly routine cleaning that is provided to me thru my insurance only to be told I'm being charge for a cleaning that the insurance will not pay for every time I go.How do they even know what cleaning i need when i never even went to the back and haven't been there in a yr not to mention they already had a bill ready upon my arrival.How? and it's not even a computer generated receipt with billing info and insurance info.BEWARE OF THIS LOCATION THEY ARE TAKING PEOPLE MONEY!!!i will be contacting corporate.
