TAMPA, Fla. (October 13, 2020) Coast Dental & Orthodontics is notifying patients about a data theft investigation. The information stolen involves certain patients who received care at the Coast Dental offices in Conyers and North Druid Hills in Georgia.

During the night of August 6, 2020 into August 7, 2020, a locked moving truck containing equipment and patient records was stolen from a parking lot in Atlanta, Georgia. The police recovered the truck on or about August 8, 2020 and the truck was secured by the police and placed in an impound lot. Coast Dental placed a lock on the truck while it was in the secured impound lot until the truck could be moved from impound. On August 25, 2020, Coast Dental recovered access and possession of the truck and the items inside the truck. Coast Dental secured the contents and transferred the property to its facility in Florida. From approximately August 26 through August 28, 2020, the contents were inventoried, and upon a full investigation, it was discovered that among other equipment and property, approximately 1,700 patient records containing patient information were compromised or missing.

In an abundance of caution, on October 13, 2020, Coast started mailing letters to affected patients, notifying them of this incident and also offering access to credit monitoring services at no cost to those whose social security numbers may have been compromised. Patients whose information was involved are advised to follow the instructions in the letter to protect their data.

Patients who believe they may be affected by this incident may call (855) 252-2731 Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m., and Saturday - Sunday between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. EST., excluding major U.S. holidays.

Coast Dental is committed to protecting the confidentiality and security of patient information. In response to the incident, Coast Dental has provided additional education to its workforce members and refined processes to better secure patient information.

*Update- Run doesn't even begin to cover it. This company does nothing but lie and then has the audacity to use discrimination tactics which by the way is against the law! No one in management is willing to speak with you regarding the extreme unprofessionalism. The Douglasville location in their words "went dark" because they have no staff. If the working conditions are anything like the way they treat clients I absolutely understand why. Check them out on the BBB as well. Their corporate office is in Florida and nothing but 1 star reviews. I gave ample opportunity for someone to reach out to me about this and Coast dental refuses to do so. Absolutely sad and shameful RUN far far away! Apparently the Douglasville office is closed indefinitely and they don't feel that it is a priority to contact patients that have appointments to let them know. Getting someone to answer the phone is impossible. The person on the appointment line I'm assuming at a call center told so many lies even she couldn't keep them straight. Upon looking here I called the patient quality assistance line and was met with even worse. I ask if I have the right number and the answer was literally "YEAH". I am then told that the corporate office has rerouted all the calls to appointment schedulers because they are too busy to talk to anyone. An absolute disgrace and a joke! Your company is a pure mess!!!!

I am extremely disappointed with the customer service as well as the lack of professionalism and accountability the management at this location has. As a new GA resident I was looking to get a routine dental cleaning. I was provided a basic cleaning due to being in my last trimester of pregnancy which was done very profesionally. The issues I did experience: When booking my appointment I contacted their appointment phone number and was assisted via text (still have all the reciepts) made sure to clarify the type of insurance coverage I have and was given an appointment for the Mableton location. They later informed me the Douglasville location had an opening with a dentist covered by my insurance plan. I was told I would be recieving x-rays as well as the cleaning the same day since it was not a deep clean unless some issue came up during my x-rays. The day of I waited a lengthy period to be seen, once in the back the person performing the x-ray seemed a bit nervous or may have been new but continued to make small mistakes and the x-ray process took longer than it has ever taken for me in the past. Once in the back the dentist looked over my teeth for about 5 minutes told me I did not have cavities nor any issues and recommended a basic routine cleaning which I would have to schedule for a following appointment. I then receieved a bill through the mail charging me over $600 for a regular teeth cleaning. I looked at the reciepts they gave me at the end of my visits and compared them to the ones charged in this statement and they did not match. The dentist office charged me for additional services as well as duplicate services on different dates and different amounts. I called the office and was told they could not do anything but to lower the charge and admitted it was their mistake. The bill then came back as over $300 when I called to ask why the service was over $300 they said my insurance only covered a small amount of each service performed. I then called my insurance, cross checked everything to find out the dentist that performed my cleaning was out of network. When I contacted the dentist office to inquire about this the office manager had me waiting on hold for an hour to then tell me she was doing somethings if I could please repeat to her what the reason for my call was. I repeated my concerns and was told , "oh that's on you. You had to make sure your insurance covered which I replied, "I found your dental office on my insurance app made sure to call and double check as well as clearly asked the representative from Coast Dental to set up an appointment with someone in network and was assured this would be the case. As a result, the office manager asked me to give her sometime to see what she can do and told me since the error seemed to be on their end she would be giving me a call the next day. She never called, I then attempted to call various times without any response. These phone calls and enitre process took about 3 weeks and I still do not have any resolution but instead have been sent to collection.

The best Dental experience in my entire life. The front desk was kind and the x-ray tech was friendly kind and considetate. They communicated very well and communication is important. The Dr. was excellent like no other in my 65yrs. I would recommend them again and again. I'm a happy camper. The price was right for sure.

Dr. Garvin was very rude, and humiliated me in front of his assistant by stating I had not brushed my teeth because he found food between teeth. I eat lots of nuts and popcorn, so I am not going to argue there may have been some residual left. But his delivery was rude and disrespectful, and I'm sure in his one hundred years of dentistry he has seen worse. He also would respond with smart answers to questions I had regarding a treatment plan. His methods of treatment are old and outdated. I have never in all of my many years experienced such blatant rudeness from any professional or medical person. Because of him I will not be returning to Coast Dental. Patients/humans deserve better care and respect! To the owner: The number you provide is just another office scheduling number. , You should be personally reaching out to patients to discuss poor customer service. Please do better. I will say the office was much cleaner than before Covid19.

This morning, had a dental appointment for routine cleaning that I scheduled well over two-three weeks ago, and office staff contact me within an hour and a half of my appointment to notify me that there isn't a dental hygienist on site nor a dentist in order for me to receive my cleaning as planned. I simply ask what would the office accommodate for me during this visit (given it would be my FIRST VISIT), they replied, just X-rays. I also inquired is there a nearest location they could schedule me where there is a dental hygienist on-site, and they stated Mabelton. Yeah, I just requested my appointment to be cancelled without any penalty to me. This office operates under poor management practices and I wouldn't advise going here.

Update: I switched to the Sprayberry office. Always a wait, always a different dentist/hygienist, and the experience differs with each visit. I'm leaving for a private practice and hopefully won't dread going to the dentist anymore. Dr Chen is amazing. My orthodontist visits are actually a treat! That, combined with the friendliness and professionalism of Corey, the front office attendant, makes The Douglasville office for Coast Dental worth the drive.

Very little wait time, like seriously less than 10 minutes and that's with filling out paperwork. Very friendly staff and hygienist was EXCELLENT. NO PAIN!

I am completely disappointed in the unprofessionalism and horrible customer service I have been given. I wrote a review and went to the Better business bureau and I was promised my case would be resolved. 5 months later I am still waiting on my refund from ORTHO, after not having an appointment for about a year and some change. I had to spend money elsewhere to remove my braces since they were causing me pain. I had three different people work on my case and now no one is answering my calls. I feel disrespected and ignored. I paid my treatment in cash full for about 3000 dollars in 2019 and have not received a penny back. In 2020 I also didn't haven't have an appointment for months straight, if you value your Money and time do not recommend Coast Dental at all. . If I could give zero stars I would, this is an outrage.

Never reopened after the pandemic and never finished my treatment but they keep sending me bills. Not a great place to get your braces. They are not consistent. I had to be rescheduled all the time before the pandemic and they never opened up again afterwards.

We paid in full for my son's braces and now we can't get anyone to help. We have called and someone was suppose to call us back and it has been months. By far this is bad business when someone pays in full and now you will not help them to make it right. My son is suffering now and I will have to pay someone else to get his braces off.

I paid Coast Dental in Douglasville, GA 3,300 in full for my braces ortho treatment. During the beginning of the pandemic they closed and I haven't had an appointment for about 8 months. I was later moved to the cascade office since they were the only Coast Dental office open for ortho close to my location, but for the last five month I have not been able to get my appointments they keep canceling and my wires are broken and poke my mouth. I have Been reaching out to corporate to get my refund from the Douglasville location however no one returns my calls nor has a refund been issued to me. I also need my records from the Douglasville Location and no one will return my calls or help me access them that way in the mean time I can get treated else where. For several weeks I have been calling patient relations and Patient Quality Assurance which is their corporate office and it says someone will reach out to me in 48 hours but its been over a month and no one reaches back out to me. I think it is very unprofessional and disrespectful at this point. I regret getting my braces with Coast Dental.

We loved our past visits here. The hygienists we had were great and the dentists were great. We had an appointment scheduled in July and the offices were closed. When we got in touch with the "1800" number, they were unable to assist us and were trying to send us to another office another day 45 minutes away. I asked if we could get a copy of our records to go to a different place and they said I need to ask this office. How does a company like this not have an electronic copy that I can get? My husband and I need somewhere around $1k+ of dental work done and no one wants to return my emails or calls. Very unprofessional, we will not be returning. We went here 2 1/2-3 years now. We just tried a different dentist in the last month and will be sticking with them for our dental needs. We were also quoted much less than we were here. I will miss the hygienists at this location, but I hope they find a better practice to work for.
