TAMPA, Fla. (October 13, 2020) Coast Dental & Orthodontics is notifying patients about a data theft investigation. The information stolen involves certain patients who received care at the Coast Dental offices in Conyers and North Druid Hills in Georgia.

During the night of August 6, 2020 into August 7, 2020, a locked moving truck containing equipment and patient records was stolen from a parking lot in Atlanta, Georgia. The police recovered the truck on or about August 8, 2020 and the truck was secured by the police and placed in an impound lot. Coast Dental placed a lock on the truck while it was in the secured impound lot until the truck could be moved from impound. On August 25, 2020, Coast Dental recovered access and possession of the truck and the items inside the truck. Coast Dental secured the contents and transferred the property to its facility in Florida. From approximately August 26 through August 28, 2020, the contents were inventoried, and upon a full investigation, it was discovered that among other equipment and property, approximately 1,700 patient records containing patient information were compromised or missing.

In an abundance of caution, on October 13, 2020, Coast started mailing letters to affected patients, notifying them of this incident and also offering access to credit monitoring services at no cost to those whose social security numbers may have been compromised. Patients whose information was involved are advised to follow the instructions in the letter to protect their data.

Patients who believe they may be affected by this incident may call (855) 252-2731 Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m., and Saturday - Sunday between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. EST., excluding major U.S. holidays.

Coast Dental is committed to protecting the confidentiality and security of patient information. In response to the incident, Coast Dental has provided additional education to its workforce members and refined processes to better secure patient information.

I'm truly disappointed at having to write this because I was happy to see a predominantly black female staff at this location but I have to. After spending close to $2000.00 up front at each visit I continued to receive bills for services I either paid for or insurance had covered. I double checked with my insurance. Their billing practices are shady at best. When checked with my insurance they tried to bill delta dental(my insurance) 4 times in one day for the same services and then billed me because it got kicked back. And when I went and talked to them directly about it they gave me the run around saying it's my responsibility to cover it regardless of them quadruple billing my insurance. Additionally, in one of my visits for an extraction they almost pulled out the wrong tooth! Numbing the top left side as opposed to the bottom left. If I had not spoken up I would be missing a healthy tooth. Thank goodness I wasn't knocked out for the procedure. The pain from the extra unnecessary needles was debilitating for 2 days. I have cancelled all further appointments with them, will be requesting all of my dental records and taking my business elsewhere. Please be warned their billing practices, record keeping and chart reading are suspect.

Every six months for a full X-rays is unnecessary on your teeth. A way to take money from your insurance. I have to pay cash on something every time I come. Even your cleaning twice a year has a fee

Oh my goodness I'm not the one to sit in a dentist chair BUT, the dentist assistant and Dr. Bonner are SUPER and I mean SUPER THE BEST. They are pleasant, calming, gentle, they got to the point, explained what was causing my issue and resolved my aching mouth issue. And made me feel totally relaxed. Very professional!!

I scheduled an emergency dental visit. When I arrived no one greeted me and a man was seated behind the front desk appearing to stare at a computer screen. Upon further examination I noticed he was napping. After a few minutes a young lady I would later learn was the office manager checked me in for my appointment. I few minutes later I was called to the back for X-rays. When done the assistant place me in the exam room stating the doctor would be in soon. After a few minutes she returned to explain the doctor reviewed my X-rays and stated I had two options. I could save the tooth with a root canal or have it extracted. I explained to her previous root canals were never successful and I would prefer extraction and replacement with an implant. She again stated the doctor would be in soon. She quickly returned with a referral to an oral surgeon in hand and stated the doctor did not need to examine me since I decided to not save the tooth. I explained I was in pain and unsure if the infection was gone. Which was the reason for the EMERGENCY dental appointment and need for examination. While checking out at the front desk I again asked the office manager about my pain and infection. She offered to call in antibiotics and did. The before mentioned napping man then began to explain he did not come into the exam room because my diagnosis was clear and he did not need to see me. My response was it was clear to him as the dentist, not me as the patient. I also explained I have worked in the medical field for 20+ years and never witnessed this type of blatant lack of care for a patient. I have never scheduled an appointment with a provider and not been given the common courtesy of an explanation of my diagnosis. And certainly not when a patient expresses the level of pain and discomfort I did. If this is the level of providers employed my Coast Dental this is not a business that should be supported by anyone who truly cares about their personal well being.

The staff listened and didn't dismiss my fears. My treatment was explained in detail and the cost. My visit was one of the best I have had in years. I will be returning. 5-13-22 My apt today went much better than anticipated. I was very nervous but I must say it went well. The Dental Hygienist explained every step and was attentive to my body language. When she noticed that the numbing meds she was using wasn't working, she reached out to the Dr to numb my mouth. This was the best Dental experience I have ever had. I will be returning. 5-27-22 My apt today was was great. In the past, I have left apts with cuts, bruises and later a swollen face. Today the extraction was completely painless. My face wasn't swollen and no bruising. I will be returning. 6-13-22. My apt today was great! Pain free and the staff is courteous and knowledgeable. I love this practice!! 6-15-22 My apt went well. I was nervous as usual but a little more nervous because of the procedure. The Dental Asst was great!! She kept me preoccupied which was a God send! The apt was painless and went well. 7-15-22 My apt went well. Dr. Browner was patient and accommodating. The Dental Asst was knowledgeable and made my temporary retainer/temporary bridge more comfortable. She knew it wasn't level and proceeded to make corrections. I absolutely love this practice!!! 8-9-22. My apt today did not disappoint. My Bridge came in. It's a perfect fit and it looks great!!!

I am active duty military with the US Navy and this organization has a signed contract within the United Concordia network. Upon an emergency extraction of a tooth due to intense pain, I was told to pay out of pocket for an expense that should not be charged to a member within the network of Tricare United Concordia. Upon paying out of pocket, I explained to them after speaking with my insurance that paying out of pocket was never supposed to happened and a refund is due s my insurance has already covered this claim. It is my opinion, that they already knew this prior to the surgery and still had me pay out of pocket. I was very disappointed and appalled by how all of this has happened because the surgery occurred Jan 2022 and I have yet to receive a refund. To any military member, I would never recommend this company to anyone and be aware of your rights as well.
