Dr. Cara Schantz is a native of Northern Virginia; born and raised in McLean. She earned her Bachelors degree from the University of Virginia and then went on to complete her Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. After dental school, Dr. Schantz chose to do a one-year residency in general dentistry in New York City.
Dr. Schantz is certified in Invisalign, the nearly-invisible braces, and has completed coursework at the Dawson Institute in St. Petersburg, FL. Dr. Schantz has also been trained in conscious sedation and has extensive experience performing this procedure with adults as well as children.
Dr. Schantz has practiced dentistry for several years in Northern Virginia and in 2011, opened her own private practice. Both in her own practice and as an associate at previous dental practices, Dr. Schantz has focused on providing quality, innovative dental procedures while educating her patients to the important connection between oral health and overall physical well-being.
She has participated in numerous Mission of Mercy projects that provide dental services to undeserved areas in Virginia, in addition to volunteering abroad in Jamaica, Honduras and Belize. In her free time she loves to travel and spend time exploring DC with her husband and dogs, going to local wineries and breweries and checking out new restaurants.
Dr. Khashayar Changi became a Washington D.C. local three years ago. He is a highly-educated and skilled periodontist who sees patients at CNS 2 days a month. Dr. Changi prides himself on his ability to assess the whole of the oral cavity allowing him to offer a comprehensive treatment plan based on a multi-disciplinary approach.
He received his specialty training in Periodontics at the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in New York City, NY. Dr. Changi is a board-certified Diplomate by the American Board of Periodontology in both Periodontology and dental implant surgery.
Dr. Changi is an expert in dental implants with comprehensive training in both traditional and immediate implant placement. He has extensive experience and a unique talent for providing extractions and implants in the same-day. Dr. Changi is especially skilled in tissue grafting.
He is qualified to treat all types of periodontal and peri-implant diseases and conditions with proficiency in surgical and non-surgical treatment methods. Dr. Changi has extensive experience in all facets of oral implantology including the management of peri-implant disease, guided bone regeneration, immediate and delayed implant placement, and digital treatment planning.
When Dr. Changi is not treating patients, he enjoys skiing and playing golf. He and his fiance enjoy traveling to New York, Germany, and Italy. Dr. Changi loves pop art; his favorite artists are Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, among others. He also enjoys exploring wineries and doing wine tastings. His favorite food is ramen and his favorite ramen restaurant is Daikaya in Chinatown.
Dr. Michelle Brutten moved to the D.C. area in 2020 and came on board with CNS Dental in 2022. After moving to the United States from Brazil, Dr. Brutten completed her residency in general dentistry in Connecticut before moving here.
She is an extremely well-rounded dentist and brings a vast knowledge of the most up-to-date methods in dentistry to serve her patients. She prides herself on her proficiency with the newest technologies and materials in the field of dentistry.
Dr. Bruttens knowledge of dentistry is deeply ingrained as she comes from a family of dentists. Both her brother and her father practice dentistry. She has certifications in Botox injections as well as dental fillings, providing her with a unique skill set in the CNS team.
In Brazil, Dr. Brutten worked for nearly a decade as a public lawyer for the countrys government, specializing in constitutional law. As a native of Brazil she is fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese, allowing her to make our patients feel more comfortable in our office.
When shes not at the office, Dr. Brutten enjoys spending time with her dog and cat, Shadow and Pirata. She participated in tennis competitions in Brazil and still plays for fun with friends and family. She also picked up snowboarding when she moved to Virginia and looks forward to winter time when she can hit the slopes again.

The worst cleaning ever. The dentist (Dr. Brutten) and her assistant were very unprofessional. The entire process was very careless (they did not care at all) and kept pushing me to buy extra services. -X-rays were only taken for my back teeth but not for the front teeth. When I asked about it, they told me they would take them after the cleaning but never did. - I was told that none of the tea/coffee stains could be removed by regular cleaning (which is not true) but only by a separately sold whitening kit. -The ultrasonic scaling only lasted for about 5 minutes max and in a very reckless manner. -The assistant left fluorine all over my lip instead on my teeth. Even the other staff in the dentistry were shocked by how shabby and inattentive the work was I would have never walked into this place if I knew this was how they do cleaning. I am shocked by how careless and unprofessional a medical professional can be.

Practice failed to do proper preauthorization for work and sent surprise bill for $700 ***TEN*** months after the service. Would AVOID THIS PRACTICE as their billing department and customer service is horrible.

Recently had a gum graft procedure by Dr. Changi. The procedure did not take long and the Doctor created a quiet and calm atmosphere. The surgical site healed quickly with no pain and now the area looks completely normal! Also want to mention the wonderful front desk staff, they have always been kind and on top of insurance issues! Thanks for a great experience!
