The dreaded root canal it has historically been known as one of the most unpleasant dental procedures. But the dental industry has come a long way in the past few decades and there are a few misunderstandings about root canals. If youre experiencing tooth pain, sensitivity to hot or cold, or swelling of the gums, its important to visit a dentist as soon as possible, as these symptoms may be a sign that you need a root canal.

The part of a tooth that is hidden below the gums is considered the root of the tooth (the part above the gum is the crown). Inside the root, below a layer of dentin, is a soft material known as pulp, in which nerves and blood vessels live.

When tooth decay has damaged a tooth, it may cause the pulp to become infected. A root canal procedure involves making a small hole in the top of the tooth and using small instruments to remove damaged and infected pulp and tissue. The inner chamber of the tooth is also cleaned with water to wash away any remaining pulp.

If there is an infection in the tooth, it is affecting the pulp and nerves, which is what causes the pain. As an infection gets worse, it can cause the nerves to die, which often means that the pain lessens or goes away. But the infection is still there. If the issue is left untreated, the infection can travel into the gums, causing swelling.

Your dentist will give you a local anesthetic to numb the area during the procedure. A root canal should feel similar to having a cavity filled. If you are concerned about pain, your dentist can go over all of your options with you.

The procedure itself should be relatively pain-free, but the area may be a little sore or sensitive for a few days afterward. Over-the-counter pain medication should be enough to manage any pain within the first few days of the procedure.

Because a root canal cleans out the pulp from the inside of the tooth, the tooth will need some sort of reinforcement or restoration to protect it from breaking. Depending on the condition of the tooth, your dentist may insert a post into the chamber to ensure that the crown is stable and that the tooth is restored to full functionality.

After the entire process is complete, the tooth, and your teeth in general, still need to be protected. Brushing and flushing daily and visiting with a local dentist regularly will ensure that plaque and tartar arent building up on the teeth, which can eventually lead to tooth decay.

If you are experiencing pain or swelling, its important to visit a dentist as soon as possible. At City Dental, we understand that dental procedures can be intimidating, but a root canal is meant to relieve pain and prevent further damage. If you have any questions or concerns, dont hesitate to give us a call. Were here to ensure that you have strong and healthy teeth.

I visited City Dental Care in Hawthorne on Saturday, 12/12/20. My daughter was scheduled at 12 noon for her annual cleaning. We were greeted by a young lady who asked us to take a seat and we would be called in a few minutes after arriving at 11:45 am. We were finally called in at 1:09 pm; over an hour after our scheduled appointment. While in the waiting area, I noticed the pens that were continuously used by families signing in were never sanitized the entire time my daughter and I waited, despite us being in a pandemic and CDC constantly reminding businesses to practice stringent guidelines. My daughter texted me from exam room, 40 mins later telling me that they still had not started her cleaning. By this time I was irritated by the lack of communication and the extremely long wait time. No one communicated to me that there was a huge delay as they were overbooked. If the staff knew that there was a delay someone should communicated that to those checking in for their scheduled appointments. At this point I walked to the back and asked Dr. Marina Stepanyan why my daughter's cleaning had not been started, and her response was "The X-ray" and tried to brush me off. The doctor had no interpersonal skills when speaking to parents and/or the patients. She is not friendly and lacks professionalism. I was very concerned as I witnessed the medical staff go from room to room wearing the same PPE without changing and/or sanitizing. Many employees were not wearing their face mask properly as their nose were uncovered or pulled down under their chin. Some staff went as far as leaving on break and entered back into the clinic area with no mask. I noticed one of the Medical Assistants wearing her mask under her chin when speaking to the Assistant Manager in close proximity. Little did I know that this would be the same individual Medical Assistant that would assist Dr. Stephanyan with my daughter's cleaning. This same Medical Assistant stated she would provide me with an update on my daughter's progress, as I kept inquiring about when my daughter would be done in the back. Needless to say she NEVER came out to provide me with an update. Instead, this same Medical Assistant (in the attached photo) went behind the check-in counter to make a personal phone call. During that phone call she used inappropriate language and said "I can't wait to smoke some of that." I could only imagine that she was talking about some sort of controlled substance. Absolutely no respect for the families waiting in the waiting area. Upon check-out at 3:00 pm I asked to speak with the Office Manager. I was told she was not in the office but would be back on Monday and she would reach out to me, and up until this point I still have not heard from Amanda. The Doctor nor the Medical Assistant never made an attempt to speak with me after the visit to see how everything went. Lastly, this office provides all their clients with an "incentive" after their visit. This "incentive" is in form of a $25 gift card to either Starbucks, target or gas card. I do not understand how they are able to financially do this for everyone. I believe this is something that should be investigated. This is a gimmick to get clients to their office. I left completely disappointed. This office is a joke stay away, unless you're okay with waiting 3 hours with total disregard for her time, health, and safety!

Lupe is the first person who ask me what work I need to get done when I first went in . I clearly told her and all along up to my last visit she said all is good . But currently I still have not got my work completed and apparently not going to get any work done , unless I pay out of pocket . I try reaching out to her supervisor or manager name Amanda and same result , landed in deaf ears and have not heard back from any on them . I don't recommend this place cause they lie and will make up some b.s excuse on why they not able to finish the work and will ask you to pay out of pocket .

On my 1st visit, I was impressed with Covit-19 compliance. Upon arrival, your group will be escorted up by one of the team members to the lobby where your temperature will be taken. Everyone on staff is fully equipped with Personal Protective Equipment ; N95 mask, face shield, disposable gowns, hair nets and booties . Bathrooms are disenfected every hour....Wow!

I absolutely love City Dental. I went to many different dentists and was never satisfied with pricing, and the staff. City Dental is very accomodating and I do not wait forever to be seen. The facility is very clean and comfortable. The dentists and staff are great! I receive an after care follow up phone call after my appointments to make sure all is okay. I highly recommend them.

Straight trash. Tried to charge me almost a thousand dollars for a deep cleaning and some x-rays. My Insurance told them their prices were too exorbitant and settled with 200 for the dental exam and 350 for the cleaning which is still ridiculously exorbitant when cleanings & exams are generally only 115 to 300 together. Will not be back and will let all my friends & co workers know to stay away from these shameless extortionist.
