This was my family's dentist for a long time. We moved out of the area and I miss this dentist so much! Multiple times I have considered the cost of flying back to Virginia twice a year just to have our check up here. If you're trying to find a dentist, don't waste any more time looking. Choose City Center Dental Care, and stay there for the rest of your life. I wish I could.

My family, friends and I friends have been going to this office for years. They were always kind until my mom (who is not fluent in English) went to get her wisdom teeth pulled. Dr. Griffin had a consultation with my mother and told her that most of her teeth will eventually need to get replaced and extensively worked on (from implants to bridges). Not having this kind of money, she was clear that she could not afford all of those dental treatments and her priority was to get rid of the teeth causing her most trouble, being her wisdom teeth. He asked her to sign a permission slip for removal of teeth (which were listed as numbers). When she woke up, random teeth in her mouth were gone and she was crying hysterically for days after the extractions saying "that's not what she talked to the dentist about" and that he removed the wrong teeth. When I called the office to follow up and get clarification, the office ladies said that my mother was just "delusional" from the medicine and that she would come down in a few more days. Days later, Dr. Griffin apologized and said that he did her a favor by removing the primary chewing teeth as they would have cause her trouble down the line and that he could talk to her about plans for new teeth work which she told him before she could not afford (costing more than $50k to do). Then, he said that there must of been a miscommunication and he thought she knew what the numbered teeth represented (because we ALL went to school for dentistry, obviously). Griffin made some religious remarks and said that he will pray for her. She had to learn to eat food again, went through a state of depression and already racked up another $40k in private dentistry loans because of this little "miscommunications". As for myself, all 4 of my fillings that I got here have started decaying underneath. I started going to Dr. Tao around the age of 13 and I am 21 now so that put my fillings as less than 8 years old and already having to get replaced. I suppose if you have tons of excess cash, its ok (or tons and TONS of prayer apparently). After posting this review I got a letter from Mr. Griffin reminding me of the affordable alternatives that were offered to my mother post procedure aka DENTURES. A joke

Recently I was informed I would need some major dental work to be cleared for an upcoming hip replacement surgery. I sought out local dentists near me and chose City Center Dental Care. I'm so glad I did. The staff and doctors have been so accommodating to my every need. From Miss Lisa and Miss Heather out front for working with my scheduling and financing. To Miss Erin, Miss Chelsea, and all the other dental assistants for making me feel comfortable and well taken care of. And finally to Dr. Hayes for his kindness, caring, and compassion. He takes the time to explain what work is needed and why, as well as listening to any questions and concerns I might have. Like most people, I'm not a big fan of visiting the dentist's office, but Dr. Hayes and his staff make those visits enjoyable and comfortable. I can't thank them enough for taking such good care of me and my dental needs. Highly recommend.

I'm generally not a person to write reviews on the internet, but I really wanted to show my appreciation for City Center Dental Care. I've been a patient of Dr. Griffin for over 30 years now and give the highest praise to the entire City Center Dental Care staff. When I first showed up I was a scared teenager with significant dental problems at his original practice I was immediately put at ease by his demeanor and compassion. I'm constantly in envy of my friends and family who can minimally take care of their teeth, not go to the dentist for years, and then come away with a clean bill of health or maybe one cavity. That is definitely not me, I have to work hard to keep my teeth from not getting cavities even with brushing and flossing. Through it all Dr. Griffin has been there to help and has become a good friend. But a great practice is more than just one person, and I've had the pleasure of meeting most everyone who has worked there since I've been going. From the moment I walk in the door I'm greeted as family and that lasts the whole visit. All the Dr's, assistants, hygienists, and front office staff genuinely care about their patients and work to ensure you are at prime dental health. I have spent years referring people to CCDC, and will continue to do so every chance I get. If you're looking for a new dental practice you'll have no regrets choosing City Center Dental Care.

I have a story to share!!! This office and Dr. Hayes have truly been a blessing to me. I first came here on an emergency basis. I was treated with so much respect and dignity when I had to have a tooth removed. When I decided to have my long term dental care done this is the FIRST AND ONLY place that I wanted to come to. Dr Hayes and ALL of the staff there have been nothing but positive, professional, caring and compassionate. To City Center Dental Care and Dr. Hayes thank you for giving me my smile and self confidence back to me!!!

If your are a coward this is the dental office for you. All of the Doctors are patient, kind and professional. My Doctor Tao called me a few days after my procedure just to check on me.My sons are now going- they see Doctor Hayes. All the administrative Assistants are nice and professional as well. This dental office told us about dental insurance and do not play games, you know what you will pay. You must go for the better health of your teeth!

I have been a pt. here for a few years and I recommend this place to everyone who asks me about dentists. I am a sound-sensitive autistic and the Dr. Tao-Yi, the hygienists, as well as the office staff, have always treated me well. There is has never been a time when I have been there that I have felt uncomfortable. I wear my iPod when they are doing the 6 month cleaning to help mitigate the noise being made and never once did they make me feel like I was being rude to the normal office chit-chat. Dr. Tao-Yi is as proactive as you are about your care and will watch your teeth. Indeed, I was recently able to have fillings filled without the need for numbing and needles (which is a super huge deal for me) - NO PAIN! She and her assistant kept the procedure fun, entertaining, and expeditious. I genuinely cannot recommend this office enough if you are in need of a dentist. I have yet to encounter a staff member having a bad day. For being a doctor's office I see pretty much only twice a year, I scarcely ever have to tell them who I am when I walk in the door, which is a sad contrast to specialists I see once a month or more (who have no idea who I am!). This is truly a place that makes you feel like family and treats you with just as much care. 10/10 :-)

Staff was very friendly, everyone was very courteous and professional. My only complaint is the service and potentially unethical practice of charging for unneeded items. I went in to have my teeth cleaned as a new patient, and the Doctor stated that I had a cavity. No problem. Reschedule to get the cavity filled and during the second visit, the dentist "found" another cavity while performing the filling. I was a little wary as prior to this visit I had regularly been to a dentist to have my teeth cleaned and had never had any problems. I had just moved to the area and needed to find another dentist locally. I rescheduled the 2nd filling and ended up canceling as I wanted a second opinion for the new cavity. As I had a good relationship with my previous dentist, I had asked them to take a look to see if there was in fact a cavity. Lo and behold, no cavity found. I still needed to find a new dentist in the area so I went somewhere else in Newport News. Scheduled a cleaning with them and still no cavity. Long story short, just be careful with these guys.

I've been there 3 different times and saw 3 different dentists and I loved every one of them! My last visit I got 4 teeth worked on and Dr. Hayes talked to me through the whole 2 hour procedure. It's the first time I have been to the dentist and wasn't afraid. Everything was great. I can't wait to go back!
