I've been coming to Dr. Sugimura for over 2 years and can't recommend him and his team enough! Everything exceeded my expectation. The office is smart, clean and modern. The receptionist and dental assistants are all very sweet and professional. Dr. Sugimura is highly knowledgeable, thorough, reassuring and explains every step of the procedure. He is very genuine, kind, calm and cool. I found Dr. Sugimura and instantly new he was the right dentist for me, I used to hate going to the dentist, but now I always look forward to it (I know, right?!). I trust Dr. Sugimura's opinion so much. Perhaps it's unusual to say that a visit to the dentist is a pleasant experience but that it the case with Dr. Sugimura and his team.

Choosing Dr. Sugimura is the worst decision I've yet to make since I was born in 1978. His negligence is my daily horror. For years, I saw Dr. Sugimura and thought I had a "good dentist". I even referred several other people to him. But under his care, I developed gingivitis that progressed to periodontal disease, leaving me with significant unsightly gum loss and even bone loss. I now see a periodontist every six months, in between my standard dental visits. That's four cleanings a year, and they are all extremely uncomfortable due to my exposed roots. My lower front teeth are very weak and unstable and hurt if I bite down on anything hard like an apple or corn. The shocking thing is, Dr. Sugimura identified my gum recession and noted that my gums were bleeding when he probed them. These are the biggest dead giveaways for periodontal disease, yet his response was to tell me to brush more gently and floss more. Healthy people who brush and floss, don't smoke, and see the dentist every six months are not supposed to get periodontal disease. And I'm the kind of person that goes to the doctor at the first sign of any health concern. How my condition escaped diagnosis by him and his hygienists is completely beyond me. I did all the things you're supposed to do. Ironically, his persistent advice to floss led me think I must not be getting in there deeply enough, so I started to floss even more aggressively, which also seems to have significantly exacerbated the problem. Sugimura even acted so as to convince me NOT to see a periodontist, by saying something like, "They can eventually do a gum graft to help address the recession, but not until we've stabilized it." But a periodontist is exactly what I needed! To Sugimura's "credit", my next dentist also amazingly failed to diagnose my condition. Once the gum recession eventually got to the point of "holy cow", I freaked out and got referred to an amazing periodontist who took one look at me and diagnosed me with periodontal disease. He got right to work treating the infection. Unfortunately this happened years too late. This entire debacle was easily treatable, and yet it went on FOR YEARS while I saw Sugimura every six months from ~2008-2013. I look back now at the old oral photos from Sugimura's office, seeing the before and after, and I just want to cry. This is my hell. There is not an hour of the day that goes by where I don't think about this horrible situation and how uncomfortable and embarrassed I am. I'm still in my 30's and yet I feel in some ways like a person in his 60's. Some of my teeth feel like they're close to falling out. I wouldn't wish this nightmare on my worst enemy.
