For your preventive services, we have two registered dental hygienists. All of our hygienists have many years of experience to reinforce their high level of knowledge and expertise. Complimenting them in the restorative services, we have two nationally registered and highly trained dental assistants with years of hands-on practice. Completing the team, we have one experienced and knowledgeable business manager to address your scheduling, financial and insurance issues. We encourage you to ask our team members for help and assistance.

Dr. Mathews has beeninpractice serving the community's dentalneedsfor 12 years.After completing his undergraduate studies at Carson-Newman College, Dr. Mathews went on to earn his dental degree from the University of Alabama.

With continuing education Dr. Mathews is able tostay abreast of the latest advances in dentistry. Dr. Mathews also has active memberships in the American Dental Association, Tennessee Dental Association, 4th District Dental Association, and the Middle Tennessee Study Club. Dr. Mathewsplays an active role in the Sewanee community, where his office elects one charitable organization to work with yearly.

We strongly advise that children have their first dental checkup at three years of age. If your child is due for his or her first visit to the dentist, please feel free to ask any of our staff members for suggestions to make the initial visit a positive experience.

Thumb sucking is a natural reflex that relaxes and comforts babies and toddlers. Typically, children stop between the ages of two and four years. Thumb-sucking that persists beyond the eruption of primary teeth may cause improper growth of the mouth and misalignment of the teeth. If you notice prolonged and/or vigorous thumb-sucking behavior in your child, please talk with our staff.
