Don't worry Mom - going to the dentist doesn't have to be scary. Sometimes all it takes is finding a provider that can really relate to your child. How do you spot Dr. David in a crowded room full of children? He's the really energetic one. Thankfully, he put all that energy into his training and continues to put it to good use making his patients smile.
Dr. David grew up in northern Virginia before completing his degree in music education at the renowned Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. After spending several rewarding years as a high school band director, he moved to Richmond where heearned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the VCU School of Dentistryat the Medical College of Virginiain 2011. He was inspired to continue his work with young people andwent on to complete a two-year residency program in pediatric dentistry at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health with the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York.
In 2013, Dr. David began private practice inHampton Roads by buildingasuccessful pediatric division for one of the largest dental group practices in the mid-Atlantic. He is a diplomate of the American Board ofPediatric Dentistry and is onthe professional staff at Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters (CHKD).
In the event that poor weather conditions result in the delay and closing of BOTH Yorktown County andNewport News Public Schools, we will also be delayed or closed. If either school system is open, we will also be open unless otherwise noted on our answering machine. Thank you for your understanding.
We accept most traditional insurance plans, contact our office to verify acceptance of your plan. Chompers Pediatric & Teen Dentistry does not participate in Health Management Organizations; however, we will be happy to file your insurance claims for you.

We have been seeing other dentists in the area. This office is most friendly and professional place we've ever visited with my daughter. When I had concerns, they spent time to address my concerns. I am very satisfied with their service. They are great and deserve 5 stars.

This was our sons' first time at the dentist and it was great! The wait was short, they allowed me to bring my older son back to wait during the first appointment and had a space with an iPad provided to keep him entertained. Our appointments were at 1130 & 12 but they started the second appointment early, had the dentist see them at the same time and got us out earlier than expected. The staff were all so friendly and great with the boys, the dentist didn't have much to say but we really didn't have any concerns going in so no harm done.

I took my son for his first dentist appointment. The staff are so warm and welcoming. And the toys in the front office kept my kiddo occupied while I filled out paperwork. Thea did my sons cleaning and he warmed right up to her. Even got a bunch of laughs out of him during the cleaning. She was awesome! Great experience!

I loveee this place and my kids do too. Everyone is so nice and patient. The waiting room has things for kids to play with. And the cleaning chairs have tvs above them and they are all great with kids. My mom said my son was like a different kid there... laying down still while they cleaned his teeth. And the dentist is so personable and obviously loves his job. 100% go here for your child's dental needs

As a mom of 4, I'm very frustrated with Chompers Yorktown. When voicing your concerns to this office (scheduling/appointment confirmation group), don't expect to be heard or taken seriously. Expect to be spoken over and then made out to be the aggressor for trying to get your point of view across. Also if booking appointments around your work schedule, understand that you run the risk of having to reschedule appointments that were already approved for time off and having to re-take additional time off to go to the newly "scheduled" appointments. Headache after headache when working with this office recently. Literally some amazing days in the past but more recently not so much. The Dr. has always been very respectful and understanding, but I felt very brushed off today. Huge difference in "just relaying what you're being told" and displaying a gross lack of empathy. To have an appointment on the schedule for months and then have to try & reschedule it for months down the line or even have to try and call EVERYDAY for a same day appointment for FOUR CHILDREN (like really, what's the likelihood of that?!) is sickening. And although I anxiously await a call from their "office manager" I can't help but to feel as if I'll get more brushing off. I honestly wouldn't be so upset if my son wasn't in so much pain. But as a mother I have no choice but to be.

I don't understand why the things I need done can't be completed at this office like everyone else's. I'm literally one person! It's like this office refers you out for major work because they don't want to deal with you, and would rather not deal with the hassle of actually having to perform the work. Even when knowing it still may take months to get an appointment to fix such a pressing issue. I'll take my care elsewhere. If you need to be put under anesthesia to get work done, just try another practice. Because they don't bother to get it taken care of.

My 4 y/o daughter had her first visit today with Chompers where I transferred to after another parent's recommendation. This is the place you want to take your child, actually I'd like to be a patient! Totally different experience from her first appointment! Everyone is so kind and child oriented. Excellent excellent service!

First time here with my 3 and 12yr old. The staff was very friendly and the office was very inviting and kid friendly. Even though my son is 12, he is looks like he's much older. They didn't treat him any different and I appreciate that. Highly recommend 10 out of 10

UPDATE 2 YRS LATER: We've been through 2 different types of fillings with her and I will still recommend this office Hands Down, Dr is fantastic, Nurses are always smiling and welcoming. Still the best as new parents they've made going to the dentist not a chore! I went here today for my 2 year olds very 1st Dental visit. I was hesitant to make a choice of offices because of the trauma you hear, but this place is not like that at all all. Everyone on staff was so friendly and happy. We were seen on time. The waiting area is amazing. Now the most important the Dr.s Approach to my little one and his tactics were so perfect, my toddler who is leery of anyone near her let him brush her teeth! So yes I would highly recommend, if you are thinking about a new or change of dentist for your little one this is it.

We love Dr. David and all the hygienist. They make it a fun and easy experience for the kids so they always want to go back. Going to the dentist isn't scary for them because of how the staff manage the experience.

I am a DA and I am NOT impressed by the way the dental assistants in the practice. My boyfriend's youngest had to have a spacer removed and he was freaking out in the room "we" ME the parent was the one reassuring him everything was going to be fine. Explaining the process because I remove spacers at work. The parent shouldn't have to do that, they didn't explain what they were gonna do. While she removed the spacers the DA mentioned the tooth was loose and hopes she doesn't pop it out while he was still kinda freaking himself out. You don't say that to a kid while doing that kind of stuff. When we walked out to the bay there was a dental assistant talking about my kid with the other DA while they were working on a patient. ABSOLUTELY NOT. HIPAA? Please don't go here if you want to experience that. I know I wouldn't and I know I don't treat my patients like that as well.

Our 2 yr old son had an unfortunate accident late last night that required immediate attention and after an emergency room visit and endlessly searching for a Pediatric Dentist with short notice availability, Dr. Herce personally reach out to us, making room in his busy schedule to see our son. We were so relieved and thankful to get his call. An exceptionally versatile and dedicated Doctor!

Dr David and his team are the best! I have never received less than 5 star service from the front staff, dental assistance etc! They are so kid friendly and know how to put my kids at ease. I wish we could have their customer service at every place of business!

It was our 4 year old son's first dentist experience, and the staff and Dr David could not have been better. It was a group effort to help our son through his fear. The office it self was great as well. Very bright, and I loved how they have 5 tables in one large area for cleanings so my son could watch other kids get their teeth cleaned. And an added Benny was they have TVs mounted to the ceiling so when the kids are laying down getting their cleaning they can be distracted by watching a movie. Highly recommend
