Dr. Hugues is wonderful! My daughter had dental surgery at 3 years old. He answered ALL my questions and made me feel at ease. We've been seeing him ever since!

Always very kind, courteous and helpful with everything my children need for the dental health. I can get an appointment easily when needed and they have worked with me after hours when we have had any emergencies. I will always choose to bring my children here.

We love taking our son to Children's Dentistry! They make going to the dentist as relaxed and easy as possible for kids. And the staff is wonderful! We've never had a bad experience.

This was the first dentist we visited after moving to Pocatello. The staff was unprofessional and would refuse to answer any questions I had. I had to wait to ask the dentist. The dentist cleaned my 2.5 year olds teeth and than afterward we had a 20 minute interview of him asking me every question in the book. 20 minutes of him asking questions and than judging the answers. After we left I felt awful and knew we would never go back. He made me feel like a horrible mom that I stopped nursing my son at 13 months because I was 4 months pregnant with twins.

I have had nothing but positive experiences at this dentist until recently. Let me start out by saying that I am not a dentist and I am sure, at times, it can be hard. Life is hard. I trusted them with the care and safety of my children. So, when they suggested that it is better if I don't join my child, I believed them. Recently, my three-year-old had to have some work done. She went back to the rooms by herself. I sat there and had this feeling I needed to check on her and I am glad I did. They had one nurse holding her legs down and the other nurse holding her arms and assisting the dentist. Wasn't a big fan but maybe she was kicking, so I let that go. I then seen Dr. Hughes bend down inches away from her face and with a aggressive tone say, "Knock it off, you need to calm down, we don't do this here". I was instantly livid but was trying to remain calm. When he eventually seen me, he began to give my daughter some praises. He came over to me and tried to justify his behavior. However, in my opinion, it was completely unprofessional and unjustifiable. One of the nurses also tried to blame it on my child and say, "Children seem to struggle more in the evening, maybe a morning appointment will be better". My child is three. Children already have a hard time going to the dentist and of course, from the trauma of the last appointment, she doesn't want to go back and is now having nightmares. We work with children, because we are kind and loving and want to help them the best way we can, his actions that day were completely opposite and un called for. I was pulled back there for a reason. I wanted everyone to know so that this doesn't happen to your child. I will be pulling my child out of the dentist because the trust is already gone.

I'm sad to say that I didn't have the wonderful experience everyone else has raved about. My child is anxious and sensitive, and I deliberately chose a highly recommended pediatric office assuming they would know how to work with us (it's not like being scared at the dentist is an unusual reaction lol). I will say that the dentist himself was patient and flexible, but by that point my kid was already so stressed it was a struggle just to get through the basic necessities. The assistant that took the x-rays didn't take any time to explain what was going to happen or let him get used to things, even after I said it was his first time. It was just constant cajoling and pushing, and occasionally crossed the line into scorning and threatening (direct quotes: "you don't need to be so whiny about this" and "we have rules here. If you can't follow the rules we'll send your mommy out of the room and do what we have to." Although delivered in a nice tone, I still felt it went too far). That really doesn't encourage cooperation, it just escalates anxiety. If time had been taken to talk things through, let him calm down and get used to the idea, and go at his pace, I wouldn't have ended up holding a shaking, sobbing child on my lap afterward. Maybe I didn't have the typical experience, maybe the stresses of Covid (fewer patients at a time, so they have to move people through quicker) caused unusual practices, maybe it was just a bad day and other people had pushed buttons... but we left disappointed overall. Edit: After leaving this review I was contacted by their office to talk through my experience. They were so fantastic about really listening to my concerns and going out of their way to regain my trust. You could tell they didn't just care about the review, they really wanted us to be happy. Even though visits are still really tough for my little one (who now has a diagnosis of sensory processing disorder), we are all doing the best we can and everyone since that first visit has been patient and understanding.

I have been bringing my children here for a very long time! Going on 10 years now. I live closer to other dentists but continue to travel to Children's Dentistry because of their friendly staff and their excellent treatment. I drive an hour and 30 minutes to get to our appointments and have occasionally had to call because I'm running late. (Mostly because of the 6 kids)! They have always been most accommodating. On the odd occasion I have had to reschedule, which is frustrating, but also my fault! I just wish they would take adults because I want to go here!!!

Our first trip a few years ago was actually made possible by another local dentist. They had scheduled my kids for appts then weren't there at the appointed time so my kids were crying about not getting a new toothbrush or seeing the dentist. I continued down the road and saw the building with all the fun animals outside and took a chance that they would be willing to hand out some toothbrushes. Not only did they hand out toothbrushes they were able to get us in. We've been going there since. Dr. Hughes and his staff are so great, my (shy) kids look forward to their appointments.

My son came home from the dentist devastated. He told me that they would not listen to him and wouldn't let his mother be in the room with him. He said that his last dentist would listen to him. They were in such a big hurry to push patients through that they didn't allow time for the lidocaine to permeate. On another note I found out that they charge extra for "the facility" like no other dentist have facilities.
