A pediatric dentist is the pediatrician of the dental world. They are dentists who have undergone extensive specialized training in child psychology, growth and development as well as the latest techniques for treating dental problems that occur during childhood. With each developmental stage, there are numerous changes within a childs mouth. A pediatric dentist specializes in these changes, and is able to spot and treat problems before they ruin a childs smile!

Dr. Ching has created a nurturing environment where children feel safe, and parents find the warmth of a long-standing relationship with their childs doctor. You will feel the benefits of their efforts from the minute you enter our child-centered waiting room. Welcomed by a friendly staff member into our brightly decorated reception area, your child will delight in the variety of toys, picture books and stuffed animals. Dr. Ching and his staff have been specially trained to gently calm the apprehensive child and answer all the questions of concerned parents.

Inside the operatory, all the latest and most advanced equipment is cleverly tucked away within a kid-friendly atmosphere. From the smallest infant to kids preparing for the SATs, there is something here to engage them all. Every treatment is carefully explained in a manner to match a childs developmental stage so even the smallest toddler feels comfortable.

Our emphasis is on prevention and early intervention. We believe a healthy smile is maintained through a long-term prevention plan. We monitor your child's growth and development to create a treatment program specific to your child's needs. As they grow, we will help them learn to care for their teeth. An early start, solid routine, and regular check-ups will ensure a lifetime of bright smiles.

Born and raised in the Bay Area, Dr. Ching went to the University of California, Los Angeles, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics. He completed his dental education at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Ching then completed his specialty training in pediatric dentistry at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where he was also appointed Chief Resident at Boston Childrens Hospital. Dr. Ching is board certified and a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry!

Dr. Ching was once a patient here at Children's Dentistry when Dr. Edward Matsuishi had owned the practice. Dr. Ching knows exactly what your child needs for their dental care because he was in their shoes at one point! With the postive experiences gained from being Dr. Matsuishi's patient, Dr. Ching was inspired to pursue pediatric dentistry, and, now, as the owner of Children's Dentistry, he wants to pass those positive experiences to your child. With such deep roots in the community and a keen understanding of the patient experience, Dr. Ching is always excited to provide excellent care for his kids at Childrens Dentistry.

Dr. Chings enthusiasm and passion for oral health extends beyond the Childrens Dentistry office. He has been appointed as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry. There, he helps to oversee and mentor predoctoral students. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Berkeley Dental Society.

In addition to his volunteer activities, Dr. Ching loves spending time with his wonderful wife, Yeun Joo, and his sons, Kentaro and Kojiro. He also enjoys running/hiking, cheering on the Golden State Warriors, watching Disney and Pixar movies, and exploring all the great eats in the Bay Area!

Monica has been working in the dental field for over 15 years. Since joining the practice in 2017, she has enjoyed working alongside Dr. Nick and with our team to make sure every family leaves with a smile. On the weekends Monica loves to spend quality time with her husband Ed and three children: Prince, Edward Jr., and Brooklyn! She also enjoys cooking, running the bay trails, and hanging with friends and family!

April likes to help make sure our patients get the best care from start to finish. Our patients are fun and she enjoys keeping up with their lives, interests, and activities. The best part, of course, is seeing their beautiful smiles! She loves the Bay Area with all of its great food, beautiful nature trails, and fun things to do. She likes to play games with her family and friends, read, and try out new restaurants.

John is a Registered Dental Assistant, who has been working at Childrens Dentistry since 2005. He loves working with children and wishes to make their experience at the office fun and enjoyable. John is passionate about food and loves exploring the Bay Area for great restaurants, but his all-time favorite food is any type of spicy barbecue. For fun, John enjoys running and biking. John also has an awesome black terrier that he named Mr. Wiggles because he is constantly wiggling and can never stay still.

Amanda is a Registered Dental Assistant with over ten years of experience. She enjoys working in pediatric dentistry because of her love and enthusiasm for children. She believes that each childs visit should be a fun and comfortable experience. She is fluent in Chinese and Vietnamese, but likes learning about all the different cultures that the Bay Area represents. In her spare time, she likes to read, shop, take care of her children, and spend time with friends and family.

Vanessa is a Bay Area native and recent graduate of the College of Alameda with a degree in Dental Assisting. Vanessa is looking forward to her time here at Children's Dentistry and is very excited to help kids make happy memories at the dentist. In her free time, she enjoys biking and exploring the sites of the Bay Area. Her two favorite movies are The Rugrats Movie and UP.

Veronica is a recent graduate from UC Berkeley, where she majored in Molecular Environmental Biology and Nutritional Sciences, and will be starting dental school this fall. She is passionate about public health and education, and she is thrilled to work with all our kids and families. In her free time, she practices flute and ukulele, hangs out with her two dogs, and attempts to perfect her coffee drink recipes.

Our commitment to excellence in care for our patients is our first priority. While our practice goals are very important, they should never take priority over our patients needs. We envision a staff that shares the same vision and works as a team. We would be fully committed to providing service in a loving and compassionate manner in such a way that the patient and parent are treated better than they have ever been treated before.

An atmosphere would be created where each team members ideas are heard, respected, and encouraged. All team members would feel loved and supported and feel good about themselves. They would be there because they know that they can make an important positive difference in other peoples well being, and oral health. Such excellence in relationships will create an atmosphere of positive energy and enthusiasm that will pervade the office, and will attract new patients to our services.

My 6 month old son had his Frenectomy done by Dr. Nick today. The procedure was successful and he carefully explained the post procedure care. Looking forward to our follow up next week!

I don't want to sound like he's a miracle worker or anything but HE IS AMAZING! The whole experience --I'm used to fighting for my kiddo's sensitivities. They embraced them, never making me feel like I was asking for too much, showing him every tool and how it feels, even changing the Disney movie playing (too scary) to something more factual. He was excited to ride the x-ray saddle. I was able to sit right next to him the whole time with plenty of space. We had missed out on the routine of dental visits during the pandemic and this was the perfect way to ease is both in. I felt confident in his expertise considering his training, so my child needs some more work done and I trust that the dentist isn't trying to scam us with additional procedures. We used to go somewhere else, and they weren't as straightforward about their covid protocols, using code words like "the flu" instead of COVID, and I love that Dr Nick is so strict and clear about their COVID protocols somewhere indoors where my child can't wear a mask. Can't wait to go back.

My son is special needs and has Pierre Robin's syndrome (small chin and jaw). This resulted in overcrowding teeth. Dr. Ching never had a treatment plan for my son. Dr. Ching is not compassionate or caring when it comes to special needs patients. He told me today that he is not Dr. Matsuishi and (he took his patients after Dr Matuishi retired) and he's right and that's the problem. I strongly recommend if you have special needs children to find a caring and compassionate dentist. #heartless

Just had a first appointment for my daughter and we had a wonderful experience. The staff was so friendly, especially Dr. Nick. It was such a relief for me to start a safe, friendly relationship for my child visiting the dentist.

Dr. Nick is great! Our oldest has been a patient at his practice for 3 years now and our younger child just started their care today. They are very professional and kind, they have personal approach to each child and provide very detailed and useful information to parents. We can't recommend Dr. Nick and his great practice enough!

My kids feel comfortable seeing their dentist and staff here. Kids are usually uneasy with dental appointments but it's easier to reassure them when they had pleasant dental visits and experience. Staff and Dr. Nick have been very helpful and accommodating. I like that they're able to manage and calm kids when they're fussy.

Dr. Nick was referred to me by Aunt for my daughter under an emergency basis. He and the staff have been so amazing with helping with the transition from her previous dental office to now. They were able to get her in right away and take care of her dental needs. The office manager Monica has helped me schedule many appointments as well as broken down in detail the treatment plans and fees. Everything has been very thorough and precise. She and April have been great to work with. My special needs son had his first appointment today and Dr. Nick was so amazing. He was able to be quick with his approach even while my son was crying. I am so thankful for this office and am so happy that we found Dr. Nick and his awesome staff! I highly recommend this practice.

Our kids always have a great experience with Dr Nick and his wonderful team! Everyone has always been kind and patient, and they work quickly and efficiently while explaining what they're doing in age-appropriate ways to kids who have a lot of questions. The office is clean and welcoming to kids, and their Covid precautions are thoughtfully executed. Definitely recommend!

We love coming here. Dr. Nick and his team are very friendly, professional, and try to make the visit for the kiddos as comfortable as possible. Both of my daughters had some pretty serious work done here at very young ages, which was terrifying for me, but Dr. Nick walked us through everything every step of the way, before and after the procedures, and always addressed our concerns, making us feel a lot more comfortable. Our insurance doesn't cover much through Children's Dentistry, but we can't imagine taking our girls anywhere else. Highly recommend.

Dr. Nick is the best! My kids LOVE visiting every time. He is so patient and takes time to connect with each kid. I have three kids under his care, and we have been coming to his office for years! Even during COVID-19, the office staff was super friendly and the process felt very safe.

This is the BEST dentist. Every time I take my children here I wish I could have Dr. Nick as my dentist. My oldest has been going to Dr. Nick since he was 2 ish and my youngest LOVES Dr. Nick. Both my kids eagerly look forward to seeing him every appointment because they give away prizes and little nick nacks. Both kids have great oral hygiene (considering their ages) because they strive to impress Dr. Nick. I can't imagine a better dentist for my kids. I've heard people say Dr. Nick is a little more expensive but it is money WELL SPENT. I'd rather pay more and know my kids are safe and happy and not getting unneeded dental work done. I've had too many bad experiences with untrustworthy dentists. Dr. Nick is worth his weight in gold.

Everyone was very nice and welcoming. They were very understanding that my daughter was nervous and cried. It was her first dental visit at 18 months old. They also provided education in dental care at such a young age.

Dr. Nick and all of the staff we worked with made my daughter's first dentist appointment smooth and fun. They were energetic, friendly and took the time to answer any questions I had. It was a very clean environment with lots of fun things for my daughter to look at while waiting or during the cleaning and an overall organized process. We're very happy we found such a nice dentist close to us!

Fantastic experience from start to finish. Everyone did everything to help put my three (!) kids and me at ease. April, office manager, even showed my kids a pic of Dr. Nick without his mask so they would know what he looked like. Very knowledgeable and informative crew for both adults and kids. I highly recommend!!!

Great experience today as always. Felt extremely safe with all COVID protocols and the great care we got. Dr Nick explains things so clearly about best next steps if kid has cavity and just advising for what they need not anything extra.

Highly knowledgeable practice. We've been with Dr. Nick for years now and can't imagine switching dentists. Dr. Nick always answers your questions and is tremendously patient, funny, gentle, and kind to the children. His staff is equally friendly and skilled.
