Childrens Dental Surgery of Bethlehem is a beautiful addition to our network of ambulatory surgery centers. Our center consists of state-of-the-art technology for superior surgical care, as well as comfortable, patient-centered spaces for our young patients to receive treatment. We have a special space in our lobby for children to enjoy toys and entertainment to reduce anxiety as they wait for their procedure to begin. Parents can enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi and coffee in our internet caf room during their childs procedure. Bring your laptop and set up at our counter space to browse online or do work. Well do everything we can in our center to ensure your and your childs comfort. You can find our Bethlehem location next door to Tyber Medical and across the street from St. Lukes North Medical Center.

Dental surgery can help alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress in young patients so that they no longer fear going to the dentist. It can also improve safety, as its important for patients to sit very still during dental procedures in order for dentists to use instruments and mechanical equipment safely. If children are unable to remain still and calm, then dental surgery may be the best option. The safety of children is always our priorityour anesthesiologists are state- and board-certified. We also have RNs present in the room at all times while patients are in surgery.

  • Not treating the teeth can result in a patient becoming in serve pain and possibly developing an abscess. An Abscess is a collection of pus that has accumulated in a cavity formed within a tissue because of an inflammatory process in response to either an infection process, usually caused by bacteria. An abscess can be very dangerous and lead to swelling and severe pain.
  • The proposed dental work that your child needs will be submitted to your dental insurance company to determine how much your dental insurance will cover. The following is a general breakdown of how dental insurances typically reimburse:

  • If your child is covered under a commercial dental plan: frequently these insurances break dental work into procedure types that require you, as the dental insurance holder, to be responsible for a percentage of the work completed. For example, if your child needs a filling, the insurance company may pay 80% of the reimbursable rate and you will be responsible for 20%. We are happy to work with you on navigating specific procedure costs.
  • Childrens Dental Surgery consists of four AAAHC-accredited ambulatory surgery centers, each offering a hospital-like setting for safely and effectively treating children in need of restorative dental work. Our centers are currently located in Lancaster, Malvern, Bethlehem, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and treat thousands of children each year. Our team of skilled providers includes board-certified pediatric dentists, board-certified anesthesiologists, and registered nurses to ensure every detail of our young patients treatment plan is handled with care.

Patients at Childrens Dental Surgery are treated while under general anesthesia, which means they will be unconscious to ensure they feel no pain during their procedure (this can also be referred to as sleep dentistry). In turn, while patients are sedated, our team of dental experts can complete their restorative work safely and effectively.

Complex restorative work is often not possible in the traditional dental office due to limitations with young patients ability to remain still for extended periods of time. If significant dental restoration is involved, the associated pain may require more sedation than is safe to provide in the dental office setting. Thats where our centers come in to play, offering pediatric dental providers the ability to treat children in a true surgical center environment, with a team that includes anesthesia experts to monitor childrens safety throughout their dental procedures.

Incorporating anesthesia professionals as we do allows dentists to exclusively focus on restoring your childs oral health while the anesthesia professional continuously monitors your child under sedation. This approach provides the safest, most personalized, and most expertly rendered approach to dental care.

Childrens Dental Surgery exists today with the mission of providing high-quality restorative care to children in need of complex dental treatment. However, many parents often question why their child should undergo dental surgery at such a young age, especially when baby teeth are not permanent. We understand these concerns and have outlined below several reasons for considering dental surgery for your child.

Children’s Dental Surgery of Malvern - Pediatric dentist in Malvern, PA

Dentists will recommend dental surgery (procedures under general anesthesia) when they believe the dental treatment required is too significant for the child to undergo in the dental office setting. Treatment may be significant in the sense that it will either cause great pain, or that it will take a longer time than the child may be able to tolerate sitting still for. If a child cannot sit still during restorative procedures, their safety is on the line. Our tools and equipment can cause injury or harm if the patient is unable to cooperate. For this reason, a child may be much safer to undergo their procedure with the help of general anesthesia.

Baby teeth save space for permanent/adult teeth. If a baby tooth is lost to decay early, the neighboring teeth may drift, causing there to be less space for erupting permanent teeth, leading to space and cosmetic issues down the line not to mention costly orthodontia. In addition, a decaying baby tooth may have an abscess forming underneath the roots that cannot be seen or felt. Because permanent teeth develop right underneath this infection, a large cavity could cause irreversible harm to the developing permanent tooth underneath. It is always wise to address dental issues with baby teeth, in order to ensure proper, healthy oral development as a child grows.

Between the buzzing equipment, bright lights, and sharp objects, complex dental treatment at a young age can often cause children to be scared of, or develop negative associations with, dentistry. Allowing children to sleep through their procedure ensures they maintain a more positive perception of oral healthcare and helps to alleviate fear and anxiety for future dental visits.

No one wants to see their child in pain. However, tooth decay can cause extreme pain for children both ongoing pain as well as sharp throbbing and spontaneous pain during certain activities, like eating or speaking. Dental surgery allows our experts to address the issue causing pain, so that your child may happily return to their everyday lives.

Children’s Dental Surgery of Malvern - Pediatric dentist in Malvern, PA

Studies have repeatedly shown a correlation between good oral health and good overall health. By addressing oral health issues and dental decay early on, you may be setting your child up for greater overall wellness as they grow.

Terrible experience... my child's mouth was completely redone without permission. Came in for 3 cavity fills left with both front teeth crowns and 7 silver caps. Totally blindsided by the whole experience. Never again will I go here

Absolutely stellar service. From walking through the doors to leaving; every staff member was amazing, courteous, and professional. The office has wifi that you can use while the surgery is being performed on your child/loved one. I used wireless earbuds to be able to watch videos on my phone while I waited. I was in and out of the surgical center in less than 2.5 hours. Surgery went by so fast I didn't even get a chance to finish an episode Unsolved Mysteries. I didn't feel rushed during recovery. They allowed me to take my time. A dental surgical center isn't something you want to go to all the time but if I have to go again I would book again with full confidence in the practice.

I rarely ever post reviews but I felt the need to today. I was very anxious about my son getting surgery, and reading the reviews made me more nervous. But I was more than pleasantly surprised and pleased at our visit yesterday. My son needed a several crowns and an extraction, and I was fearful that he'd maybe end up coming out with a lot of missing teeth. Not only did they do a great job, they told me he needed three LESS crowns than his dentist had originally told me. I was so happy about that. They took care of us and made the visit as painless as they could. Everyone was kind. The dentist was upfront with everything and was also caring. They gave me lots of helpful information and we were on our way. My only minor complaint would be that I felt we were kinda rushed to leave, but my son was ok on our hour ride home, and he's doing wonderfully today. If you're anxious about going, don't be scared to go here. It will always be daunting no matter where you go, but I have already recommended them to a family member. I'll hopefully never need to go back but feel confident in them if I did.

I take back my 1 star review! They were so great and caring when it came to my son. I had gotten a bad impression from another anesthesiologist over the phone a few weeks ago. They called me when people cancelled so that way we didn't have to wait until October 24. We got there about 8:30am and left by 10:30am!

I was so nervous about my daughter's dental surgery and about anaesthesia at first time. After the surgery I met a dentist who did the surgery and the nurse, they were so friendly and respectful, everything was so nice and smooth that my daughter felt sleepy and slept for an hour and then she was like nothing happened, full of energy and no pain at all. Thank to all the professionals who work here and do their best for the children's health!

My 5 year old daughter was referred to Childrens Dental surgery of Malvern by her dentist office Children's Dental Health of Mechanicsburg to have a chipped tooth fixed and some cavities. I had the WORST experience with Childrens Dental surgery of Malvern. To start off, I had to travel 2 hours to get to the location which is beyond the office's control I understand that perfectly. However i did not receive a time to arrive at the location until a day prior so I had to hurry around to plan my trip for the next day. My daughters apt was scheduled for 10:45Am. On the way I was called at 10:15 advising a cancellation was made asking if I could come earlier. I had to explain I was on the way and due to traveling from 2 hours away I planned to be at the office by 10:30 to check in by 10:45. The office staff then asked if it was just me and my child coming. I had to explain I just had a baby a week ago and was unable to drive so I had a driver with me along with my 5yr old and newborn. The receptionist gave me attitude and said " I wish we would of known that" the baby will need to wait in the car. I explained that the baby is a newborn and will not be waiting in a hot car and the receptionist continued to be extremely rude forgetting I was the customer. After the call not, even 10 after, the Manager called me saying that the dental hygienist had an emergency and I had to reschedule the apt. At that point I flipped out at the manager and demanded my daughter be seen as I was already in the parking lot 15 minute prior to my apt. The manager "Nancy" was also very rude forgetting I was the customer and talked back. It didn't even make sense the Apt be canceled when 10 min ago they were asking if I could come in early! After a few moments of going back and forth on the phone, explaining my daughter is in pain and demanding she be seen the manger asked another dentist if he could squeeze my daughter into his schedule and they agreed but couldn't give me a new time. We sat in the waiting room for HOURS waiting for the new apt without a time. Mind you my 5 yr old was not allowed to eat or drink after midnight the day before. This is supposed to be a children facility and this facility did not take that into consideration at all. Let's make a 5 yr old wait without food/ water for a long time in a waiting room! It's obscured. The dentist and medical dr was nice and professional however. After surgery they woke my 5 year up instead of letting her wake up on her own from anesthesia. This caused her to be delirious and combative. When I walked into the recovery room there was blood everywhere she was throwing herself around and half falling off the bed. Even ripped her own IV out. The recovery assistant half helped throw her in the car and went back inside. It's a shame how the office staff and manager puts such a poor look and feeling to the office.I will be complaining to the BB and looking into legal actions. DO NOT bring your children here seek other options!!!! The office staff are rude, miserable inconsiderate people who need to put themselves in both the kids shoes and parents.

I LOVE my daughter's new teeth but I don't love that the dentist wouldn't agree to leaving the teeth in for a second opinion if they need to be pulled. I already saw a pediatric dentist in aston who said her teeth just need filings. When I got there I heard him tell the parent in front of me that he child's front teeth were pulled. When I got back I said I want all the work done but if they need to be pulled to not pull because I want a second opinion. He wouldn't agree to that, said I can leave for a second opinion or agree to the pulling because it's not fair to put the child under anesthesia more then once. And that my insurance won't cover this a second time. That he doesn't know unless he sees the x-ray. Which is exactly what a lot of the negative reviews are saying and what the place is replying with. It's not like we have a choice or allowed to have a second opinion before getting work done.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. It's been terrible. My nephew and been here 20 minutes early. Kids are going back left and right even after they just walked in and didn't have to wait 10 minutes. We were told we were next but yet were still sitting here. I can see by all the other reviews this places can't get it together. So sad you make a child wait this long without any food or water. Why even make these appointment times when you have no idea when you'll see them.

My daughter had surgery today. The wait time was short, both nurses were incredibly kind, as well as the anesthesiologist. The dentist was another story. I understand that keeping a small child under anesthesia is something you want to keep to as short a time as possible, so if unplanned procedures pop up then I understand not stopping to go discuss with the parent. However the manner in which the doctor spoke to me regarding the way she would handle things if that was what happened was incredibly forceful and a bit rude. There was no need to demand I sign the papers after explaining things the way she did. The procedure went within the time frame we expected and after I was brought to her in recovery. We weren't too rushed but my daughter is severely asthmatic so I would have liked a bit more time to monitor her oxygen levels but that's just me knowing how quickly her levels can change. The real problem I have is after all of that. I was told repeatedly by more than one person, no popsicles and no pain meds till 4pm (she was out of surgery at 11am) bc she had been given an iv equivalent to ibuprofen. Well within 10 minutes of leaving my daughter was hysterical due to pain. I called the office, and the "24 hour on call" phone number, which is just our regular dentist office apparently, I was given for 2 hours before finally someone answered. The woman told me "it says in your paperwork she can have Tylenol immediately" with a very annoyed tone that I apparently interrupted her day, I explained that was the exact opposite what I was told in the office. After some back and forth I was told to give her the Tylenol and alternate with motrin every 3 hours. The way this situation was handled after the surgery was incredibly off putting. If any of my children ever need any dental procedures in the future I will definitely be finding somewhere else.

I'm only giving 1 star and trying this review because I cannot get in touch with them! They called ME and left a message to call them back. Every time I do it goes to a machine where I leave a message back. I've been doing this for 3 weeks with NO ONE calling me back. I just simply NEED to get in touch with someone because my 5 year old Autistic child needs to be sedated for dental work. And its getting very very urgent!

EDIT given the below. Once this review was posted, we were given most of what we asked for the following morning. Review increased from 2 to 3 stars in recognition of the quick response by ownership. Thank you. If it were just the medical staff, this review would be 4/5. They treated our son well when he needed a crown, and I have little to complain about on that front. For the admin side? I would give negative stars, if that were possible. We have been trying to get a hold of them for two weeks, just to get our hands on a simple itemized bill (which we'd already paid) to send to our insurance company. We were told last week it would be emailed to us. It has not. We have called daily. We have attempted to get in contact through the website. Speaking with a real person is nearly impossible, and when my wife finally got in contact with somebody, it was in scheduling, where they could not help us and just kicked us to a place where we could leave a message. Again. This is completely unacceptable customer service, especially for something so minor. Either nobody is in the relevant department, or they're blatantly ignoring us, but if you're considering this location, keep this in mind.

My appointment for my daughter Was scheduled at 10:30 two months in advance and for whatever reason me and my wife arrive 10 mins early just to have to wait until 12pm for my daughter to finally be seen. When u take into account the fact that they told me and my wife to not feed my daughter anything for 12 hours meaning she had nothing to eat per the "professional" directions and they still were not ready, I find that highly unprofessional and unacceptable. It's inconsiderate to say the least and shows that you rather triple book appointments for money instead of dealing with your patients accordingly.

My son had surgery here several months ago, and the only reason I'm posting a review publicly now is because I don't want another family to be put in a financial situation they can't handle. I paid $3,600 out of pocket within a two week timeframe for my son to have several fillings done. That is too much money to demand prior to a procedure. I knew it would cost $1,800 for the medical side, but the amount for the dental side was not specified to me, not was it handled properly because the wrong dental insurance data was entered into the system. While I do understand that payment ahead of time is required, I propose that your company incorporates a LIMIT on how much of a payment you can demand prior to a procedure. I'm lucky that I'm in a financial situation where I was able to put up a large amount of money in a short amount of time, but most people aren't as fortunate. The reason I gave two stars is because the medical staff did a great job taking care of my son, but the administrative staff needs to be replaced. I would consider going back to your company if the administrative staff were more professional.

When i had spoke to someone yesterday they never stated that only one parent was able to coming to the center. My husband took off to work to have to sit in the car. I understand because of Covid but things like that should be explained . Secondly the front desk is so unprofessional. On their phones and just not certain with their information. I came here with my other son over three years ago and i was so happy with the job that was done and how they treated us. I believe this will be my last time making a appt at this location . It was very frustrating.

I was apprehensive about my son needing to be put under for dental work and after reading some negative reviews on here was even more nervous about it. I had considered looking elsewhere but so glad I chose to keep our appointment. From check in to recovery the staff was all very friendly, kind, caring and knowledgeable. The nurses were all great as well as the anesthesiologist and doctor. All took their time to go over what would be done that day and how they would proceed. I felt reassured and confident as he was rolled off to the O.R. After the procedure the doctor came out and went over everything that was done and about a plan for follow up with our dentist. The nurses clearly explained instructions and we were sent home with a packet with all she went over with me so I could refer to it at home. We were able to wait in recovery for as long as needed. We actually had to wait until my husband came to pick us up and no one rushed us or anything. I was very pleased with everything and thankful for the care we received today.

The front staff is extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and very kind. I am a nurse and I am always looking for professionalism. The front staff is top notch. The nurse called my 6 year old and I back right on time. The nurse was so sweet to my son and I. We were not rushed and my questions were answered. I then met the anesthesiologist who was just Fantastic. He explained in detail what he was going to do. Then we met the surgical nurse who again was very kind, caring, and informative. My son had trouble coming out of the anesthesia, which is totally normal. It can be scary even for me who is a nurse to see your child like that. Our nurse put on her A plus plus game. The dentist was extremely friendly and caring as well. She explained everything on the plan. She said she would come tell me if anything differed from the plan. She had very very caring gentle eyes. The eyes are the window to the soul. She was a tooth angel. My son had his work done and we were allowed to stay as long as we wanted to keep checking my son's vitals. I read reviews about them rushing you out. Absolutely no I can't say enough how we were told to take our time. She kept trying to take his vitals Bless her heart but he was so upset. I can tell you the nurse did everything In her power to help. I know it's difficult to see your child in any state but a happy state. Anesthesia unfortunately hits everyone differently. My son has no swelling, mouth pain, etc. He didn't even need Tylenol or Motrin. That is how skilled the dentist is!! He has mild bruising from the iv but that's it!! If you love your child bring them here!!! I would give them a gazillion stars if I could. I would love to hug every single one of the nurses, anesthesiologist, and dentist for all they did. I guess by typing this I am virtually hugging them. Thank you to you all for caring for my heart and soul, my son. I as a nurse and Mom highly recommend this absolutely amazing dental surgery center. I hope my son is done with dental work. Most likely no and I will put my heart and soul back in their capable hands. I did get a follow up call this morning to check on him. This place truly cares for their young patients. Thank you so very much
