Childrens Dental Health of Lancaster is easily accessible from Route 30 and serves pediatric dental patients in the greater Lancaster area and beyond, allowing children to receive the restorative dental care needed to maintain a healthy smile. Our surgery center features state-of-the-art technology for superior surgical care, as well as comfortable, patient-centered spaces for children to receive treatment and recover from their procedure. We have a special space in our lobby for kids to enjoy toys and entertainment to reduce anxiety as they wait for their procedure to begin. Well do everything we can to ensure you and your childs comfort. You can find our Lancaster location across the street from Rohrerstown Elementary School next door to A&E Audiology & Hearing Aid Center.

Dental surgery can help alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress in young patients so that they no longer fear going to the dentist. It can also improve safety, as its important for patients to sit very still during dental procedures in order for dentists to use instruments and mechanical equipment safely. If children are unable to remain still and calm, then dental surgery may be the best option. The safety of children is always our priorityour anesthesiologists are state- and board-certified. We also have RNs present in the room at all times while patients are in surgery.

  • Not treating the teeth can result in a patient becoming in serve pain and possibly developing an abscess. An Abscess is a collection of pus that has accumulated in a cavity formed within a tissue because of an inflammatory process in response to either an infection process, usually caused by bacteria. An abscess can be very dangerous and lead to swelling and severe pain.
  • The proposed dental work that your child needs will be submitted to your dental insurance company to determine how much your dental insurance will cover. The following is a general breakdown of how dental insurances typically reimburse:

  • If your child is covered under a commercial dental plan: frequently these insurances break dental work into procedure types that require you, as the dental insurance holder, to be responsible for a percentage of the work completed. For example, if your child needs a filling, the insurance company may pay 80% of the reimbursable rate and you will be responsible for 20%. We are happy to work with you on navigating specific procedure costs.
  • Childrens Dental Surgery consists of four AAAHC-accredited ambulatory surgery centers, each offering a hospital-like setting for safely and effectively treating children in need of restorative dental work. Our centers are currently located in Lancaster, Malvern, Bethlehem, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and treat thousands of children each year. Our team of skilled providers includes board-certified pediatric dentists, board-certified anesthesiologists, and registered nurses to ensure every detail of our young patients treatment plan is handled with care.

Patients at Childrens Dental Surgery are treated while under general anesthesia, which means they will be unconscious to ensure they feel no pain during their procedure (this can also be referred to as sleep dentistry). In turn, while patients are sedated, our team of dental experts can complete their restorative work safely and effectively.

Complex restorative work is often not possible in the traditional dental office due to limitations with young patients ability to remain still for extended periods of time. If significant dental restoration is involved, the associated pain may require more sedation than is safe to provide in the dental office setting. Thats where our centers come in to play, offering pediatric dental providers the ability to treat children in a true surgical center environment, with a team that includes anesthesia experts to monitor childrens safety throughout their dental procedures.

Incorporating anesthesia professionals as we do allows dentists to exclusively focus on restoring your childs oral health while the anesthesia professional continuously monitors your child under sedation. This approach provides the safest, most personalized, and most expertly rendered approach to dental care.

Childrens Dental Surgery exists today with the mission of providing high-quality restorative care to children in need of complex dental treatment. However, many parents often question why their child should undergo dental surgery at such a young age, especially when baby teeth are not permanent. We understand these concerns and have outlined below several reasons for considering dental surgery for your child.

Children’s Dental Surgery of Lancaster - Pediatric dentist in Lancaster, PA

Dentists will recommend dental surgery (procedures under general anesthesia) when they believe the dental treatment required is too significant for the child to undergo in the dental office setting. Treatment may be significant in the sense that it will either cause great pain, or that it will take a longer time than the child may be able to tolerate sitting still for. If a child cannot sit still during restorative procedures, their safety is on the line. Our tools and equipment can cause injury or harm if the patient is unable to cooperate. For this reason, a child may be much safer to undergo their procedure with the help of general anesthesia.

Baby teeth save space for permanent/adult teeth. If a baby tooth is lost to decay early, the neighboring teeth may drift, causing there to be less space for erupting permanent teeth, leading to space and cosmetic issues down the line not to mention costly orthodontia. In addition, a decaying baby tooth may have an abscess forming underneath the roots that cannot be seen or felt. Because permanent teeth develop right underneath this infection, a large cavity could cause irreversible harm to the developing permanent tooth underneath. It is always wise to address dental issues with baby teeth, in order to ensure proper, healthy oral development as a child grows.

Between the buzzing equipment, bright lights, and sharp objects, complex dental treatment at a young age can often cause children to be scared of, or develop negative associations with, dentistry. Allowing children to sleep through their procedure ensures they maintain a more positive perception of oral healthcare and helps to alleviate fear and anxiety for future dental visits.

No one wants to see their child in pain. However, tooth decay can cause extreme pain for children both ongoing pain as well as sharp throbbing and spontaneous pain during certain activities, like eating or speaking. Dental surgery allows our experts to address the issue causing pain, so that your child may happily return to their everyday lives.

Children’s Dental Surgery of Lancaster - Pediatric dentist in Lancaster, PA

Studies have repeatedly shown a correlation between good oral health and good overall health. By addressing oral health issues and dental decay early on, you may be setting your child up for greater overall wellness as they grow.

Absolutely unprofessional place. DO NOT TAKE YOUR KIDS HERE!! Money hungry. Took my 6 year old to get a crown done and ended up with 4 pulled teeth and a root canal. Was told they pulled teeth so he didn't choke on them. He is 6 not two!!! Absolutely unprofessional and looking for a check. All they care about is money. I will be taking the x rays they gave to another doctor and if the 4 tooth, 2 root canals etc did not need done I will be filing a law suit.... They did not tell me this was being done until after surgery.

My son had dental surgery here and they had me set up a payment plan for the balance owed to be payed off in a year. They marked some of the payments on the bills as less than what I actually paid. I called them to rectify this but they can never put me in touch with the correct person to handle this. Now that the year is up and balance is paid, they send me a bill for $325! Avoid them if possible. Update: They finally called and said to disregard the bill and I don't have a balance due. After hours spent calling them to fix this, this was the only way to get it handled.

Two of my children have had festering cavities found at their recent dentist visit for well over a month now. The dentist referred me to this group to schedule dental procedures. They called me and left a voicemail about scheduling the procedures but have never responded whatsoever to my 1, 2, now 3 different voicemails I made when I called back about scheduling. My son is now crying in pain about his tooth and I feel like they failed me. UPDATE: This office sucks. It is nothing but excuse central. They finally made me an appointment, only after I showed up in person to the primary dental office that had referred me here, and had demanded to speak to the manager. However, the appointment this surgical center made was for more than a month later, despite my kids already waiting well over a month and my son being in dire pain. Whenever I expressed this concern, each person I talked to kept making excuses and playing the blame game. They even blamed the primary dentist, falsely claiming the dentist never notified them about the dental procedures needed. I know this is a lie because the dental surgery group initially called me only a day after the primary dentist visit prior to their ghosting of my callbacks for over a month. They also wanted to bill me $1,500 per kid for my medical insurance's deductible, plus my dental insurance's deductibles, plus fees. I COULD NOT AFFORD THIS! When I expressed this, they told me to either A, file for Medicaid (ummmmm no, I make too much money to qualify, despite financially struggling; divorced teacher mom of 3 here) or B, use a credit card. I became so exasperated and unheard that I reached out to my son's teacher (who was growing ever concerned about his daily tooth pain) and found that University of Pennsylvania's dental school does work much cheaper and with more schedule attentiveness. When I took my son to Penn, they told me he did not, in fact, need general anesthesia for removal of his tooth cap because the cap was attached to the adjacent tooth which was already loose! They even advised me to have my son wiggle the tooth out himself, so the cap would come out with it, and save me a lot of money. He was able to do this and I saved money. I also found out that a lot of the procedures this center insists on using general anesthesia for do not necessarily require anesthesia. It has now become my opinion that this place likes to overprescribe surgery and anesthetics in order to make the big bucks. NO THANKS! Not interested in becoming a cash cow to a faraway surgical practice.

I am full of guilt, and disgust after my sons visit here today. For starters, this is the third appointment we had. I had an original appointment scheduled; but when they called and said they had a cancellation mid-may, I jumped on it. Appointment was scheduled for 6:45am; we woke up early, drove all the way there, for us to get there and they're having HVAC issues; and says they may have ti cancel all appointments but will now know until around 8:30-10am.. I could wait around "if I wanted", or reschedule... I chose to reschedule rather than play a waiting game. But, a phone call in the morning would have been nice, before I made the hour drive there. Today when he has his appointment, I was expecting work to be done on his top four teeth and one molar... and that is NOT what happen! They ruined my baby's smile! When I went to get him after surgery it was explained to me that they capped SEVEN of his top teeth. Four on top, three on the bottom. I was not even aware that these teeth were issues, considering we were just at our regular dentist YESTERDAY and was told everything looks great other than the teeth previously mentioned. From the beginning the dentist did not make me feel 100% comfortable; as when I asked her questions she seemed annoyed to even be answering them. I wish I would have read reviews before agreeing, and possibly got a second opinion. My sons teeth now have a big gap between his two top front teeth, and his bottom teeth appear to be much bigger, and discolored compared to his others! They do not match his natural teeth in the slightest! Not only that, when I went back to his recovery room he had blood all over his face/lips, on the pillow, bed and blanket! Nobody tried to wipe my baby up, and just left blood all over his face. Then as I'm trying to calm my baby down and get him dressed a nurse comes in 5 minutes later basically pushing us out of the room! I was so irritated, and he should have been allowed more time to recover from anesthesia! I am not usually on to leave reviews, but this whole experience has had me BEYOND upset! I cried almost the entire drive home!

My daughter was scheduled to go here back in 2021. The appointment was cancelled (well within the cancellation date) due to us wanting to get a second opinion and COVID concerns. We paid upfront for the appointment and requested a refund. 1 year, MANY phone calls, and MANY messages later and we have yet to be able to speak to someone about getting our money back. At this point I consider the money stolen. Instead of spending more on a lawyer and court, I will go out of my way to convince potential people to look elsewhere and avoid further potential theft from parents. Though a lawyer and court is not out of the question yet.

Great place! My 5 year old granddaughter had surgery here 2 days ago. Every staff member that I spoke to was kind, caring and knowledgeable. They took very good care of her and I was very pleased with the results. She was back to herself, running around and playing soon after the anesthesia wore off. If she would ever need work done again, I would definitely go back!

I was very pleased at our visit. The receptionist, Victoria was awesome to talk with. My concerns with waiting for an appointment while my child was in pain were heard and taken care of without any gruntled or annoyed disposition. All the nurses and providers were pleasant and helpful. Dr Carlos Gomez was so nice and explained everything clearly. I was VERY hesitant coming to this appointment, however I've been very pleased.

The staff was absolutely amazing at calming not only my nerves but my kiddo. Although the wait was long, it was worth it. The staff made jokes with us, made us feel welcome and at ease and really were hands on with such a nerve wracking procedure for me. Very quick when it came to the crowns and took very good care of him. Although it seemed like a lot of work to be done for my little one I'm glad they were extremely thorough, explained everything to a T, and really made sure I understood everything completely.

All of this offices are horrible. If you have a sibling that you have to bring with you, please don't schedule an appointment with them. That don't care of your kids teeth hurt or how long you drove for to get there they will make you go back to where you came from. Horrible customer service as well.

I'd give 0 stars. I'm extremely disgusted with this place. I originally spoke to someone to schedule my 5 year old sons procedure(back in December). They were supposed to send paperwork to me, containing the appointment date and the cost of the procedure, which I never received. I called numerous times, left numerous messages and NEVER received any calls back. In the messages I made sure to say that my son was experiencing pain from his tooth and that still didn't seem to matter to them! Absolutely floored by their lack of care. I HIGHLY recommend Sunshine Pediatric Dentistry in Lititz. They're wonderful!

Do not have your child seen at this facility. They have ruined my daughters teeth and it will be more than a year before she can eat properly again. The preoperative visit covered what was to be done. A few molars were to be extracted (bad cavities), and one front top tooth may need to be pulled, but they would try to use the color match filler if it could be saved. This was the understanding going into surgery. When we got her back from surgery nearly half her teeth were pulled and several of the ones they left were covered in a "metal" crown. The visual is horrific. All of her front teeth are gone. They even pulled one that was loose (maybe) because "It was going to come out anyway." We will not be returning. We already have appointments at a different facility. Don't make the mistake we did. If you need anything more than a simple dental procedure, go somewhere else. Edit: I never spoke with a dentist, assistant or any personnel at the facility after the procedure. I understand that the back teeth will get the "metal" crown, but when that is almost all that is left after the procedure the presentation is horrific. When I mention that she won't be eating normally for a year, that is not due to the healing time, but the time it will take for all of her front teeth to come back in. Try giving a 6 year old a slice of pizza for dinner when they have nothing but molars left in their mouth. We have taken her to another dentist office and they cannot find the reason all of her teeth were pulled. They reviewed the records, images, and notes provided by this office (Trying to get the records should be a whole other review) and they cannot find a suitable reason. So, if you've found this review, please reconsider putting your child in their care.
