A pediatric dentist should be patient, informative, and able to ease the fears and anxieties many children experience when they first visit the dentist. Just like general and family dentists, pediatric dentists must complete at least four years of dental school. After graduating dental school, dentists who wish to go on to specialize in childrens dental care can undergo an additional two years of residency training. During these two years, these dentists get a chance to see infants, children, adolescents, and patients with special needs.
The additional experience gathered during this residency training allows dentists to get better acquainted with treating young patients. They also become well versed in detecting and diagnosing dental problems commonly found in children.
