I enjoy learning new techniques and better ways to help my patients. Recently I have been working with the SwissBioHealth Clinic in Switzerland and Dr. Urlich Volz on the all-in-one treatment to bring those techniques to my practice in Los Angeles.
Since my dad was a dentist, I was exposed to dentistry at an early age.Dental tasks came easy to me and I have always thought that there must be a better way to practice dentistry than to drill, fill and bill. I have been researching the biocompatible aspects of dentistry for over 20 years.
Since I am trained in hospital dentistry, I was able to do entire oral revisions at one time under general anesthesia. When dramatic results were obtained, I became convinced that some dental materials could affect the whole body. This was the beginning of my quest for ultimately biocompatible dental materials.
I have worked with Physicians for many years, working side by side in the hospital and in the O.R. It has been both enlightening and frustrating at times. The medical establishment does not consider the oral cavity very often in diagnosing and treating patient. It is usually by default that the dentist is called in on a case. After treating many patients in the hospital, I began to see the correlation between dentistry and medicine. A correlation that is embodied in my attempt to practice Holistically.
Dr. Herman graduated in 1992 from McGill University in Montreal with a degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. In 1992 he moved to Denver Colorado and in 1993, he completed a General Practice residency program at the University of Colorado. Dr. Herman went into private practice and became a partner in Pine Grove Dental Associates in Steamboat Spring, CO for 10 years. Dr. Herman realized his childhood dream to combine his love of dentistry with his love of skiing by living at the base of a ski mountain. He then relocated to Aspen in 2002 to join his mentor Dr. William Comcowich, a world-renowned expert in occlusion, full mouth reconstruction and esthetic dentistry. He purchased Dr. Comcowichs practice and worked with him for a year prior to his retirement. He successfully owned this practice for 10 years.
Dr. Hermans never-ending dedication to his profession was exemplified when after 20 years of private practice he returned to his Alma Mater, the University of Colorado, to further his education through a 3-year masters program in periodontics. By combining his 20 years of experience of private practice along with his surgical skills, Dr. Herman can now provide a multitude of services including but not limited to general and cosmetic dentistry, periodontics, extractions, zirconia implants, crown lengthening, gum grafting, gum lift, pinhole technique, guided bone regeneration, full-mouth rehabilitation & smile rejuvenation.
After finishing his specialty training, Dr. Herman joined BioDentist a holistic practice in Denver. He was already in alignment with this type of work since he lives a holistic lifestyle - eating organically, practicing yoga, exercising and leading a healthy lifestyle. He continues to consult and occasionally is called to work on some of their high-profile cases.
In 2018 he traveled to Northern India and spent a month volunteering his time and dental skills to underserved communities in the Himalayan Mountains. It was a very rewarding experience and I am looking forward to further volunteer opportunities to help others.
That same year, Dr. Herman decided to make his home in sunny California and settled in Los Angeles. He began working with Dr. Yokoyama at Dental Healing which shares a common belief that in order for a patient to heal, their mouth is a critical place to start. Working with the team at Dental Healing to create healthy smiles and successful cases has been truly fulfilling.
At Dental Healing he has completed larger Swiss Dental Solutions Cases using the Swiss Biohealth Concept from Dr. Urlich Volz. His ability to see the details of the cases helps when working on patients at Dental Healing who are also interested in dental technology like PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin), autogenous bone grafting, vertical sinus lifts, and zirconia implants.
Dr. Herman provides a safe and comfortable experience for his patients. He is committed to listening to his patients needs and taking the time necessary so that he can develop a customized and detailed treatment plan.

I had an excellent experience with Dental Healing. Dr. Yokoyama was extremely professional and informative regarding my dental health. He has a relaxed approach that immediately makes you feel at ease. The professional and support staff are very efficient and attentive.

My wife and I had appointments with the hygienist yesterday, this is the first time with this particular hygienist for us. He was very though, listened to what we were explaining to him regarding our teeth history and problems with them. He was very understanding and was able to do a great job cleaning our teeth !!

Dr. Yokoyama is a very caring dentist and well-trained in the latest aspects of dental healing. His location in DTLA is freeway close. Parking is easier in one of the adjacent structures.

I first found Dr. Yokayama 20 years ago when I was recovering from an immune illness. I decided to take my healing to the next level and had my amalgam fillings and old, leaking crown removed by a Dr. Yokayama who practices biologic dentistry. He tested me for bio-compatible materials to replace the fillings with because people can each have their own negative reaction to dental substances. He uses inert, non-reactive materials least likely to cause a reaction. I have been going to Dr. Y's office now for a long time and I'm now seeing Dr. Momepour. Same great practice. Dr. Ma is my hygenist and does a very thorough cleaning. Thanks to you all for saving my teeth and my health!!

Although pricey the Doctor, staff and elegance of the place is wonderful. It felt safe, private and not overly crowded. Dr. Yokoyama really takes his time to ask you questions, evaluate and make recommendations for truly healing your teeth and over-all well-being.

I just finished stage one of an extraction, bone graft, zirconia implant and next will be the final placement of the new tooth/ crown. I cannot say enough about how good the team was, in my case it consisted of Dr Herman, Leia (sp?) and Dr Yokoyama overseeing things. I was nervous at the onset not having had this procedure before but everyone made sure nothing began until I was comfortable and calm, the lavendar essential oils on the chair pillow helped that as well! It took many hours of precise labor for Dr Herman and Leia but their professionalism and skills were so impressive I instantly relaxed knowing I was in good hands! I was very happy when it was over but expecting a swollen jaw, pain and some recovery.... all I had was soft food for a week and remarkably no pain to speak of even worthy of an advil. All in all everyone in the office earned the 5-star rating for each step of the way. It is not a low cost procedure but when it's your jaw and dental health, it is worth being in the best hands.

I'm so pleased that I found the office of Dental Healing and their dentists. They're kind and gentle and don't make decisions to do work unless it really has to be done. I'd recommend the dental group in a heartbeat!

State of the art dental care with the nicest staff! My Dr. recommended Dental Healing, after my former dentist of 10 years said that a red sore in my mouth was "normal". It wasn't! Turns out that I had an infection that my other dentist couldn't detect with their outdated technology. Highly recommend 100%!

If you're looking for a good holistic dentist, Dr. Yokoyama is probably the guy. If you're looking for a good holistic dentist who will patiently and thoroughly discuss options for your teeth, Dr. Yokoyama is definitely the guy. When I first called his office, I was told that Dr. Y. wasn't taking new patients, that it would be two months before I could get in. Once I did get in, I found out why this was. Dr. Yokoyama greets you like you're an old friend. His is a very busy practice, but his whole posture is one of calm and reassurance. He *strolls* between treatment rooms. And the work he does is stunning. I hardly recognize myself now when I grin at the mirror. I was also pretty jazzed when he told me that five teeth the previous dentist had scheduled for treatment didn't need it (he said this even after I told him about my old treatment plan and had him double-check those teeth)! This last year has been a difficult one for me, and I'm a pathetic coward anyway when it comes to having my teeth worked on. Also, I like to think about things and mull over all possibilities (well, okay--I *brood*). I asked for a number of changes in the order of the work outlined on my treatment plan. I asked for tests to be done on my teeth that other dentists had done. I asked many, many questions. Dr. Yokoyama accommodated me with all the above, and he still lets me come back! The dental assistants are solicitous and good at what they do. Leah is such a soothing presence -- I want her in my neighborhood when the Big Earthquake hits because my blood pressure goes right down when she's in the treatment room. The first time Maria cleaned my teeth, I confessed that I was a Total Wimp, so she cracked jokes the whole time she scraped away. When I laughed, she asked, "Are you laughing because I'm funny or because I have sharp instruments in my hands?" This is one of the best organized professional offices I've been in, in L.A. The ladies at the front desk, in spite of being extremely busy, are extremely helpful. They listen intently. If they don't know the answer to something you ask, they find it out and get back to you. Michelle can do around 26 things at the same time without breaking a sweat. She knows everything about Dr. Yokoyama's practice, and the ease with which she navigates the schedule is amazing. If you care about your teeth -- their health and their appearance -- and if you're looking for health care professionals who really care about the quality of the work they do, I think Dental Healing will be a good fit for you. But I'd suggest that you call soon and get your name in, because there are probably already people lined up outside Dr. Yokoyama's door.

Dr. Yokoyama is an amazing holistic dentist; his family run-office has been taking care of my teeth for about 15 years, since 2004. I researched to find a dentist who had a holistic approach and didn't use amalgam fillings. Since I found Dr. Yokoyama I've referred several friends to the office; all say he's the best dentist they've ever had! I feel very fortunate to have worked with him all this time and have such good care.

These guys are TOP NOTCH!!! Also Dr. Herman is amazing to say the very least! I wish I would have found them decades ago! So clean, so fast, such great service! I cannot say enough about this place! I feel so well taken care of, and most importantly I know I am doing the best for my teeth!!! Do yourself a favor and STOP the search, you found the right place!
