For me, being the best orthodontist I can be means much more than simply putting on braces and straightening teeth. My greatest joy comes from helping my patients achieve the smile theyve always wanted: one theyll love for the rest of their life. When people ask me, 'Dr. Hao, what is the best part of being an orthodontist?' I can give an honest answer. Seeing a persons absolute glee when they see what theyve achieved is truly the highlight of my day!

I enjoy being able to coach and support each patient throughout their orthodontic experience. I want each person to want to visit the office and have a good time while here. I love our conversations and getting to know each patient as a person. We serve a diverse community in Southern Maryland, and each person brings their own energy and experiences to our space. As a committed member of our Southern Maryland community, Ithrive on the relationships that develop and am honored by the trust patients and families place in our practice.

I chose to become an orthodontist after being an orthodontic patient. Treatment created a profound change in my life: itincreasedmy self-esteem and the confidence I felt around others. I want to share that experience with others bypartnering with them to transform their life!

Our team members care for every single patient as they would a family member. Each goes out of their way to ensure patients are comfortable at every step of treatment and duringevery visit. We keep our patients smiling while helping them achieve a new smile!

I completed my Doctorate of Dental Surgery at New York University Dental School. I serve a three-year orthodontic residency, and earned an orthodontic specialty certificate as well asa Master of Science,at the University of Maryland.

Evidenced-based treatment planning is important. I'm devoted to being the best orthodontist I can be byremainingcurrent on developments in orthodontics through meetings, continuing education courses, and peer-reviewed publications. This ensures Im able to deliver the most efficient, effective, and comfortable treatment options to my patients.

When Imnot caring for patients, Im most often with my family. My wife Amanda and I married while I was in residency. We live in Huntingtown with our two children, Sydney and Evan, who attend Plum Point Elementary:Go Panthers!

Orthodontics has been my calling since I was a teenager with braces. I realized the tremendous impact an orthodontist can have as I watched my own transformation. Being able to smile with confidence stays with you throughout your life, whether youre smiling for the prom, senior portraits, wedding pictures, or a job interview. Knowing you look your best is a huge confidence boost, and people can tell when youre really happy.

One of the best things about being a localorthodontist is having time to really get to know my patients. Im interested in their activities and love hearing updates about their latest adventures and successes. Because orthodontic care works for all ages, Im surrounded by a dynamic group of people. Each person has stories to share and were always talking and laughing.

Theres no feeling that compares to taking off a persons braces and seeing the joy on their face as they look in the mirror and see that theyve acquired an amazing smile! I cannot imagine anything more rewarding than being an orthodontist!

Our team members genuinely care about each patient who comes to our practice. They do everything possible to ensure people feel welcome, at home, and engaged during visits. By being warm and friendly, encouraging questions, and meeting each persons cosmetic dentistryneeds, our team creates a positive, comfortable environment.

I have a passion for treating patients using advanced, aesthetic techniques, including clear braces and Invisalign clear aligners. These treatments enablepeopleto maintain a confident smile throughout orthodontic care without anyone knowing theyre in treatment.

By taking a range of continuing education courses in cosmetic dentistry, I stay at the leadingedge of advancements in the specialty. This ensures my patientsreceivethe best care while achieving their new smile!

Spending time with my wifeLauraand our young daughter and son is a priority when Im not caring for patients. I love being outside andtraveling, and am a huge football and basketball fan, especially when cheering on the Michigan State teams!

I co-chaired the 2016 Southern Maryland Mission of Mercy in Waldorf. As a local orthodontist, this was very important to me, and we were able to provide much-needed dental care to more than800 underserved people! These types of events can make a huge difference: theyrelievepeople of dental pain and allowthem to get back to enjoying life.

Our smiles are how we greet the world. Healthy, straightteeth fill us with confidence, and that shows in every interaction: at school, at work, and in our personal lives. When we know our smile looks incredible, we love to share it, and that opens doors, sets others at ease, and invites smiles in return.

If you have crooked teeth and feel uncomfortable smiling, Dr. Thomas Hao, Dr. Dylan Schneider, and the Chesapeake Orthodontics team can help! Every day, we work closely with our patients:gently moving teeth into proper positionand developing smiles that light up the room. Wed love to help you achieve straight teeth and a smile that willtransform your life!

Communication is essential to orthodontic success. Our doctors need to know what you want from treatment. In addition to your clinical situation, they need to know about your life, hobbies, and personal concerns. Well ask a lot of questions and encourage you to ask your own. We promise to be transparent and explain everything in understandable terms. Were here to serve you and want you to feel comfortable talking with us.

Education is another cornerstone of orthodontic treatment. Its important for you tounderstand whats happening in your mouth and the options available to correct issues. Its just as important that you understand the connection between oral and overall health and what you can do to keep both in great shape. We want you to finish your journey with a smile you love and the knowledge to keep it healthy!

Respect is a key part of the care we provide. We respect your individual needs and concerns, and will always care for you as a person, not a set of teeth. Learning about you, sharing in your achievements and adventures, and becoming part of your life is an honor. Our practice is here to serve you and help you achieve the beautiful, straight teethof your dreams!

Orthodontics is a commitment of your time, energy, and money. You need to understand your clinical situation fully, and how treatment can improve your oral health and deliver the smile you want. You also deserve high-quality care thats tailored to you.

Don't worry! Braces aren't nearly as scary as you may think. In fact, braces for teens come in a variety of styles, materials, and colors, making life with braces much easier, more comfortable, and even more stylish than in the past.

  • Early treatment Early treatment allows orthodontists to monitor the growth of the jaw and recommend further orthodontic treatment if it becomes necessary. Not everybody receives early orthodontic treatment; in some cases it may be recommended that a patient wait to receive treatment.
  • What needs correction The amount of treatment needed to correct a problem will determine how long the process takes. Different patients react to treatments differently. While it may take one patient only 12 months to complete treatment, it may take another patient 24 months. Treatment times can vary depending on how quickly your body responds and how much work is needed to give you the show-stopping smile you expect.
  • YOU! Your willingness to use the appliances your orthodontist gives you plays a major role in the length of time it takes to complete your treatment. Always remember to take care of your braces and appliances; this truly will help make your treatment shorter!
  • Orthodontic braces are a big part of life for many people your age. While braces may have had a bad reputation in the past, today's braces make it easy to look good and feel good! Please contact our practice to schedule your next orthodontic checkup.

Orthodontic treatment is no longer just for teens. In fact, the American Association of Orthodontists states that one in five orthodontic patients is over the age of 21. Many are choosing to receive adult orthodontic treatment because they understand the importance of maintaining their health, and they want to feel better about their appearance. Adults everywhere are taking advantage of the opportunity to receive adult orthodontic care, and now you can too.

For many adults, the thought of having metal braces is enough to discourage them from receiving treatment. However, today's orthodontic treatment options offer a variety of braces and appliances that are comfortable, aesthetic, and customized to meet your needs. Types of braces include:

The main difference to remember when treating adults or children and teens, is that in younger patients the jawbones are still developing. For adults, these bones have stopped growing, which may mean the possibility of orthognathic surgery to align the jawbones. Other differences include:

  • Gum or bone loss (periodontal disease) Adults are more likely than children to experience gum recession or even bone loss due to gingivitis or advanced periodontal disease. Patients with straighter teeth are less likely to get gum disease.
  • Worn or missing teeth Over time teeth can become worn down and shift into different positions that can only be corrected with orthodontic care. Missing teeth can cause other teeth to shift and tilt, creating a bad bite and increasing the possibility of gum disease.
  • Incomplete orthodontic treatment as a teen Many adults received some orthodontic treatment as a child or teen, but never completed their treatment. As an adult, they choose to complete their orthodontic treatment to achieve the healthy, beautiful smile they always wanted.
  • Our practice also recognizes that adults and children have different needs, and require a different level of attention and care. We will work with you to ensure that you receive the most appropriate treatments, and that your needs are met with understanding and respect from us.

I'm a West-coast transplant and we just relocated to Southern Maryland a few months ago. My permanent retainer came loose and of course I panicked. Chesapeake Orthodontist called back right away and got me an appointment as soon as they could. They were friendly, quick and did an amazing repair. If I ever need anything orthodontic related, I will only come here and recommend anyone who is looking for an orthodontist to do the same! Thank you to all the staff!
