The youngest of four, Dr. Homer was raised in New York, did her undergraduate work at State University of NY at Albany, and completed her dental degree at Howard University College of Dentistry. She completed a residency program at Columbia University and Erie County Medical Center.

Nine years experience as a general dentist inspired Dr. Homer to open the practice of Cherished Smiles, in December of 2011. Her compassion for people is evident as she takes an anxious patient, and shares with them the gentler side of dentistry. Dr. Homer is devoted to her family, a passionate runner, a member of the Seattle Study Club and once wowed her entire elementary school with her rendition of the Hustle.

Cocoa. Bet you didn't expect to see chocolate on this list! Cocoa powder and chocolate (the darker the better) has been shown to reduce inflammation in the body which may translate into less gum inflammation and tooth loss.2 Cocoa powder has also been proven to inhibit certain bacteria and enzymes that produce plaque!3 Again, the darker chocolate has less sugar to contend with, and the most beneficial cocoa polyphenols. How about hot cocoa sweetened with a little honey?

Seeds. It is said that our ancient cave ancestors had wonderful teeth, due in part, to the inclusion of seeds in their diet. Seeds have a natural, abrading quality, that helps keep plaque off teeth. Sesame seeds are also high in calcium for healthier bones and teeth.4 Add sesame seeds to salads. Grab a handful of pumpkin or sunflower seeds next time the tummy rumbles.

Tea. When we slowly sip sweetened sodas, teas and coffee, it prolongs the time that our teeth are exposed to sugar. Unsweetened tea is a great pick me up with antioxidant qualities, controlling bacteria, reducing cavities and gum disease. Green tea has also been shown to have anti- bacterial qualities for our mouths and anti inflammatory affects on our gums5.

Yogurt. Yogurt helps promote healthy tooth enamel with vitamin D and Calcium. It also has antibacterial qualities, combating the naturally occurring bacteria in our mouths.6 If you need it sweetened, add a little honey that also has naturally occurring antibacterial qualities.

Apples. Apples are great way to include more fruit in your diet, and as such, we felt they deserved a separate listing. They have a wonderful natural sweetness, and some say, are fibrous enough to naturally scrub your teeth. Apples also help stimulate saliva, which raises the ph in your mouth and neutralizes the acid pro- duced by plaque7. Eat all you want!

Cheese. Cheeses are a a satisfying snack and a natural way to include vitamin D and calcium in your diet. Certain mozarellas, gouda's and other cheeses can even help neutralize the acid that affects tooth enamel8.

Popcorn. Popcorn is an unsweetened snack that is high in calcium and phosphorous, nutrients needed for healthy teeth. It is also chewy enough, to exercise your jaw and gums9. (Just be careful to avoid the unpopped kernels; they can crack teeth.) Nuts. Nuts are high in calcium and magnesium, both important for dental health. They also promote a chewing action that is good for teeth and gums.10 Peanuts are also high in vitamin D. Cashews, walnuts and almonds are particularly beneficial.

Prior to coming here I've always been scared of the dentist because of their lack of empathy and sympathy. Fortunately that wasn't the case when I arrived here. The staff was amazing and the environment is very warm and friendly. After today's visit I can proudly say that I've found a dentist home and I'll definitely be referring them to everyone I know.

This place is horrible. Had an appointment set up with them in June for an August appt, I took off work, used sick time, and wasted time for them to get me there and tell me that they never had an appointment for me and that they stop accepting my insurance in January. However, I called my insurance company and they informed me that they were still in network. They lady at the front desk informed me that my appointment was probably cancelled but I never received a call nor notification of it. They wouldn't even provide me with a document to take to my job. They have bad business and very inconvenient. They had my husband in their system but didn't know why. Smh horrible.

They clearly have little respect for new clients. I had an appointment and a confirmation. The day of the appointment for multiple people in my family, after I leave work and take my child out of school, I'm told that we have an appointment two months away. Look, things happen, and sometimes appointments need to be changed. But you don't just cancel an appointment and give a client a random date and time, unless you have NO RESPECT for them. This initial experience spoke volumes for the kind of lack of professionalism one could expect. I can't trust my family's health matters to such a setting.

This office is so professional and I love coming here. Camille is very patient and so is the office staff. I have a phobia of dentists and Dr. Homer makes you feel at ease. The hygienist is amazing. Receptionist is amazing as well. The atmosphere is amazing. They are like family. The staff makes coming to the dentist a breeze. If you are looking for an amazing office please visit Cherished Smiles! You won't be disappointed.

Had an appointment today with Dr. Homer as a new patient. This was by far my worst experience EVER at a Dental Office. Receptionist was nice but the doctor was horrible. The tone and attitude from the start was highly unprofessional and rude. My previous office (which dental tech passed which is why I was there) sent over ALL records so if she had reviewed my chart PRIOR to seeing me, she would have known a deep cleaning was not recommended on my previous visit. Things change regarding dental health which I get, but to be spoken to like a child is unacceptable. I had already overheard her belittling an older gentleman next door before she came over to me. Terrible! I will NEVER go back and highly recommend everyone to avoid this facility.

All members of the staff were very helpful and professional. I learned about this particular office from a co-worker of mine. Definitely a 5 out of 5. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

From the moment I walked through the door I knew it was going to be a great experience! The staff members were friendly and conversational! When it came to sanitation and cleanliness they were on top of it! I definitely loved how they made sure I didn't feel any discomfort throughout my visit! Dr Homer cleaned my teeth in a timely manner! I would ABSOLUTELY say this was one of the best experiences I've had at a dentist office!

I have been going to Dr. Homers office for over 4 years now. I am HUGE on customer service. If I don't feel cared about when I go somewhere or if I feel like it's just "a job" to them I usually don't go back. From the start they have always been amazing with me, it was great to have had trust in them from the start since I had to have ALOT of work done on my teeth. I hadn't gone to the dentist in years prior to that. I love how Dr. Homers is honest about everything and doesn't sugar coat anything. She is passionate about what she does and cares about her patients teeth as much as she cares about her own!!!! Her and Camille are my favorite!!! I will continue being a faithful customer.

Dr Homer, Camille and staff are the absolute best. For me going to the dentist is no fun. But my experience at Cherished Smiles is so comfortable. Office is safe, clean and inviting. If you're looking for a professional dentist I highly recommend Cherished Smiles Family for all your dental care

Went a couple of weeks to have a general check on the health of my teeth and all I can say is I've never felt so uncomfortable with any medical professional in my life. If your teeth are anything less than perfect expect the Dr. Patricia to catch and attitude with you and ask you smart alec rhetorical questions in order to make you feel terrible. People go to there doctor or dentist to help deal with sensitive issues the last thing they want is be made to feel less than because of those sensitive issues. I tried a new dentist yesterday (Chris Atkins) and wow the difference was tremendous. He was kind and made sure I felt totally comfortable with all of the information he gave me. He let me know the issues I was having were actually pretty normal and nothing to freak out about, while Dr. Patricia made the issues I was having seem like the end of the world. I recommend you try him out before you stoop to the lows of Cherished Smiles. I really wanted to support another black female but I won't subject myself to a nasty attitude in order to do so.

How do you actually get into contact to even make an appointment? I've been calling for 3 days and no one ever answers the phone. I've left voicemails as well. It's just a bad sign and I would avoid this poorly run business.

Excellent! Dr Homer and Camille are the best! We do not live close at all, but a great dentist and staff is worth the drive! You won't find a better dentist who truly cares about her patients. That means a lot!!!
