As soon as you sit in the dentist's chair, you will be invited to kick back and relax. Each operatory has a television connected to streaming services so that you can catch up on your favorite show while we do all the hard work.
Dr. Bob Barrows is a graduate of both Clemson University and the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). After graduating from MUSC in 2003, he served in the US Navy as a dentist. During his time in the Navy, he was stationed at the Goose Creek Weapons Station and overseas in Guam.
Upon completion of his naval service, Dr. Barrows entered private practice in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2008. While it was a difficult decision to leave his North Carolina patients of 10 years, Dr. Barrows returned home to Charleston in 2018 to be able to raise his family on James Island, where his parents and extended family also live.
After the move, he took the opportunity to take a short break from dentistry to restore his family home, doing much of the work himself. Dr. Barrows became a partner at Charleston Family Dentistry in 2020.
Dr. Kirkland is a family man and grew up in Columbia, South Carolina. After receiving his degree from Clemson University, he completed his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1986. Upon graduating, he completed a postgraduate residency at the Westside Veterans Hospital in Chicago.
He is a member of the American Dental Association and the South Carolina Dental Association. He serves on the board of several local organizations including the City of Charleston Recreation Commission and the Harleston Village Board. In his free time, he enjoys gardening and swimming with the Palmetto Masters swim team.

I had to get three cavities filled, one in particular was worse than the others and may have needed a root canal procedure. Thankfully Dr. Barrows was able to fill all three with ease and saved me the trouble! His assistant kate was also very helpful. The entire staff is kind and i had a great experience coming here

I had my first visit with Charleston Family Dentistry. I'm so pleased I chose this dentistry. The staff are SO FRIENDLY!!! I saw Dr. blank who was so funny and had my laughing the entire visit. Highly recommend.

Several visits we have been quoted a false amount for services only to be shocked the amount has increased by 50% after services rendered. Our family will not be going back.

Today was the first time that I went to Charleston Family Dentistry. I moved to Charleston right before the pandemic and did not see a dentist until today. Was I anxious? Yes! I did not know what to expect with a new dental practice. The Google reviews were excellent but still everyone has their own unique experience. Did this practice live up to its' excellent reviews? Yes! Without writing a book, Charleston Family Dentistry is amazing. Dr. Barrows sat with me and gave me a brief but thorough history of himself as well as the practice. He also explained the dental work I needed to have done while showing me clear images of my teeth on a flat screen tv. My cleaning and fluoride treatment were thorough and not rushed. My bill for upcoming dental work was reviewed with me after confirming my insurance coverage. All the staff that I interacted with (I won't mentioned names as I don't want to leave anyone out!) were professional, kind, and caring. The office environment is very clean and welcoming and there is ample parking. One gets the feeling that the staff really work as a team. I like the fact that this is not a "chain" dental practice but a private one. I look forward to going back. I would definitely recommend Charleston Family Dentistry. Thank you CFD!

As someone who is terrified of the dentist, the front of house and hygienist really saved the day. The dental work received was phenomenal, top notch. As someone who works in healthcare, being in the patient seat can be a difficult experience. That being said, the dentist pre-procedure was very informative and attentive. However, Intra-procedure they had a sharp tone to the hygienist and was much too blunt. I felt bad for her. The dentist' black-and-white attitude did not transfer well to the patient experience during the actual procedure. Despite the above mentioned, a very good experience.

They sell your information. Provided a brand new email address; that I gave to them only...After my appt I started receiving emails from a dr. john lah of united medical doctors in California requesting for me to confirm an appt I never made. Once again it was a brand new email that I only shared with Charleston Family Dentistry. Also they double bill. Under my insurance, cleanings are free; they also mailed me a bill for that due to submitting my information to insurance incorrectly. I had 2 appts with them 1 for cleaning another for fillings. At the end of the session the dentist claimed he noticed another cavity that he 'found' and would take care of but wouldn't charge me but will submit it to insurance. How, after examining x rays, you wouldn't notice a cavity? So either the original findings were analyzed incorrectly, or its just a sketchy practice where they tell you one thing and attempt to bill the insurance another price. You all have been warned your information is not safe. I am currently having this matter investigated.

Dr. Barrows and Christina were amazing! What a calm and supportive setting with an incredible team. The whole office really works hard to treat you like a priority and alleviate any anxieties. I've found my permanent dentist and am returning later this month for some additional work. HIGHLY recommend!!

Great dental practice and experience every time!! From when you first walk in to a very clean and well decorated lobby to the very professional and skilled dental hygienists who clean my teeth without any pain and no jaw soreness even the next day! Well done Christina. Dr Barrows also a very personable dentist who owns the practice and takes time to talk to his patients before putting his fingers in your mouth! Also takes time to recognize veterans and thank them for their service as he himself served in the US Navy.

The Staff is friendly and prompt. Dr. Barrows has a great chairside manner, and instills the confidence needed in a Dentist. Christina, the Hygienist, is thorough and gentle. She is a great addition to the Staff.

This was the best experience I have EVER had at the dentist. I'm a new patient and went in for a cleaning and a check up. ALL of the staff at Charleston Family Dentistry are SO friendly! Dr. Barrows is great! He is so nice and really cares about his patients. I have never had a dentist take the time to sit and talk with me like Dr. Barrows did on my visit. I have high anxiety about going to the dentist, and Dr. Barrows and his staff calmed me right down. The environment is great, and a light, fun, comfortable atmosphere. Breanna and Alana are awesome and really kind! My x-rays and cleaning were done in no time! And Anya, Betsy, and Amy are super friendly and so helpful! They got my appointments set up quickly and checked me out in no time. Everyone made me feel so comfortable. I love everyone at Charleston Family Dentistry! This is my forever dentist!
